Priced at ss ssser ssss severn.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R2428-Class-50-50037-ILLUSTRIOUS-BR-blue-MINT-BOXED-/221344860088

Slip of the finger perhaps or just one supposedly very mint Hornby 50? A price that even our **Rare** One off Ready To Run Mint Cond but not Mint con Kit Built or even gostude might shake a stick at?

Well he's definitely been at the wine, hence his eBay ID.....

Some fine description here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R2984-CLASS-43-HST-NETWORK-RAIL-NEW-MEASUREMENT-TRAIN-PACK-FOR-REPAIR-/141152440966?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item20dd575286

"Externally they are both in very good condition and apart from the missing buffers, light units and power car roof fans - they are ready to run."

"THIS IS A VERY RARE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE THIS HST SET UNBOXED AND WITH COSMETIC DAMAGE."

Very good condition apart from having a number of very obvious bits missing! And remember, it's a 'rare opportunity' to get them in a trashed state like this!

And from the same seller:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-BR-CLASS-43-SUPER-DETAILED-HST-BODY-43300-EAST-COAST-LIVERY-SPARES-REPAIR-/370974217650?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item565fc955b2

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-BR-CLASS-43-SUPER-DETAILED-HST-BODY-43055-EAST-MIDLANDS-SPARES-REPAIR-/141152438264?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item20dd5747f8

Both of which are in 'Excellent Condition' - well, apart from the fact that both of them have a large and very obvious dent in the exhaust deflector!

I wonder what 'poor condition' would look like?

At a starting price of 99p, does it matter?

He has four identical illustrious models on offer posted 1 minute apart, the first is £79, the other 3 all £779, so finger did a lot of slipping! Those who want one best go for the first.

Keith

One would've thought that if people want to sell their goods efficiently, they would at least take some care when listing and double check before uploading.

Careless or lazy or both?

In the past I've put up in excess of twenty items at one 'sitting' and have checked and double checked, with accurate descriptions, before listing resulting in trouble free successes.

Not madness as such, just such a shame someone's been busy with solvents all over the buffer beams of this otherwise gorgeous and decent value heavyweight Brit.

Wode is me.

It's a pity he didn't find out she wouldn't run on his layout before bu messing her up

Rare (it says so in the description)!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-Class-67-EWS-WITH-LIGHTS-detailed-RARE-Boxed-Track-Tested-67003-/231125661753?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item35d029b839

They only come up on ebay at a rate of about one or more a week!

And, having recently reread Nigel Burkin's original review in BRM, I gather that any rarity it might have is due to it being rubbish and overpriced when new :D.

Have to say I think the reviews of the Lima 67 were a bit harsh - the main issue was that they had over-hyped it and it didn't live up to the lofty claims! However, it's actually not a bad model overall, and better than some which Hornby still haven't retooled (notably the 87 and 90).

Spot on! As it happens, I have some Hawthorne Village On30 passenger cars awaiting repainting into something more recognisable. No guesses for why they were cheap, especially in the UK.....

Meanwhile, brother and sisters, please forgive me for I have sinned mightily. I have purchased from Gostude!

For some years I have wanted a Roger Malinowski kit - they are very well-sold, perpetually in short supply, aka unobtainable. I've paid over the odds, but the kit will make up for that. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360805996683?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648

Write out 100 times:

I must not.......

I must not.......

I must not.......

Though I guess as you've fessed up and it's a first offence (it is a first offence isn't it?) then we can let you off with a verbal  :rtfm:

It shows that he can supply things that people want at a price they are prepared to pay.  I'm having similar moral battles over the price needed for a 5 BEL in Umber and Cream.  Similar temptations with Hornby Gresley Suburbans in Maroon (or Crimson lake, whatever you want to call it), however at nearly £50 a pop, it makes a suburban rake expensive.

Don't worry Ian there are much worse things you could have done.

But with something like this http://www.timbertracks.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=1_3&product_id=32 at £74.00 so it might not too bad after all, but we better send this chap around to keep an eye on you.  :keeporder: other wise we will have to give you a  :protest:

Maybe, but given that printed on detail is more appropriate to 1950s Hornby Dublo than a supposedly landmark model 50-odd years later and that the mechanism and interior workings, as described by Mr Burkin, would have shamed Triang I'm not so sure.

I have P4ed two of them.. One runs smoothly like a silent sewing machine whilst the other sounds like a bag of spanners!

They certainly were a mixed bunch, mechanically speaking.

Seeing the asking price for the 'strip joint' and the box price of $125, that doesn't seem too much OTT. (Just don't do it again!)

(No Uhura passenger car?  :O  or was that the only one that sold?)

I saw that as a banner ad on here.  I was immediately attracted until I saw the prices!  I've always loved the coaling stage at Didcot as it's been part of the scenery of my life, and while I didn't have space for one had a quick look.  Ye Gods, that's expensive!  I'm just glad I was sitting down when I saw how much the Weymouth goods shed is!

Still, that's not really madness.  It looks like superlative modelling for the very highly skilled with very deep pockets.  I would splash out the £22.50 on five canopy supports if I thought my building was up to it!
