EBay madness

He's says it's built from Airfix kit but it's not the same as the other Airfix ones - more like the other white metal one he has, presumably this one built with a large hot soldering iron?

It appears to be either a K's (white metal) or early Slater's (plastic) body on an Airfix underframe. It's hard to tell from the rather poor photo. Some of his other stuff seems quite reasonable, but again is let down by the photos.

It went for over £100 incl. p&p. That's considerably more (in real terms) than I paid for the contents*. Granted it was quite a few years ago, but ....

There's also this bit of cardboard, currently at £22.

I must have thrown several of these away, as a boy. Presumably so did nearly everyone else, which is why it's now rare, but even so.

* She can be seen here (Scroll down to post #4).

Went for £31 + £2.59 p&p :O - you can get the locomotive for less than that!

She does need a little TLC, but...

(This seller has quite reasonable prices - not cheap, but not in the Gostude range either.)

Who on earth would want to pay £31 for a scruffy looking kit empty box. I've got a fair few empty ones from kits that I made up years ago full of odds and ends and rubbish! I'll have to offer them up!

You can get nice new leatherette covered ones for around £4 each.

I wonder how much the box for the M&L 633/850 would be worth?

Mine's in much better condition than that DJH box and I use for oddments!

Try your luck Keith.M & L have long gone so you may get £50 :O .I'm gobsmacked by this and I can only assume the bidders think the kit is included and didn't read the listing correctly. Also I'm sure DJH will sell a brand new box for a reasonable price.

Now £40! :O I would have thought that the £3.80 p & p was more than the box is worth. (I'm not saying that the postal charge is unreasonable.)

I fail to see the attraction that boxes seem to possess. I suppose it's nice to have the original box, but even replicas go for silly money and I can see even less point to this.

At the last exhibition I attended there were various sizes of stock box (Dublo style) for a few pounds, but, even at this price, it's worth making your own..

Just a little over the top in price. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hornby-Thomas-The-Tank-Engine-Friends-Set-/181018998845?pt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Model_Railways&hash=item2a2592b83d

Considering I bought most of these for my son, Thomas new for $55.00, Percy new for $45.00, Toby 2nd hand for $40, and Gordon 2nd hand for $73.00, Annie & Clarebel new for $29.90... Buy it now, don't think so, could buy it new for that kind of money, including some track...!

The Lima Class 31 is a funny beast. The chassis is much derided but the body is favoured by many experienced modellers as being quite a faithful reproduction. Having said that, these normally go for under 30 quid, even for the experimental blue and gold liveries. Looks like 2 studs have locked horns on this. 47 quid with 2 hours to go.

Just to show that inflated prices, vague photo's and very brief and sloppy descriptions are not restricted to Ebay.UK:

Dutch marktplaats (marketplace), but owned by Ebay

http://hobby.marktpl...-digitaal.html?

"Hornby digitaal

Beschrijving

te koop mooie mall 22 met wagonsgr cor en tiny"

Hornby digital

Description

For sale nice mall 22 with wagonsrgrds cor and tiny

A somewhat cryptic description to say the least!

http://hobby.marktpl...cotschman.html?

"legendarische flying scotschmann

Beschrijving

te koop legendarische flying scotsmann van Hornby nu in engeland nog 300 pond dus graag een serieus bod

groeten jopie"

Legendary flying scotschmann

Description

For sale legendary flying scotsmann from Hornby, now in england still 300 pounds so please a serious bid

Greetings jopie

He probably had a look at some of Gostude's auctions...

Sierd Jan

Edit: Scotsman listing was retracted and then relisted, unchanged!

(I've got the flying Scotsman set, first English train set I ever bought, but for 300 euro's I might be willing to part with it... :mosking: )

Now this has got to be taking the wee wee.... Never Romford wheels in their puff, scrap H&D ones maybe.

We all know that this guy is a prize chancer but just check out the prices of the new batch of old, old kits he's got his mitts on...

Some described as Falcon Brass yet they never made the kit and even some photos show the correct maker on the box , I don't think he has a clue.

Very 'clever bloke' though.....

Just to point out gentlemen, this was one of my auctions.

I stand by the accuracy of my listing and the quality of my photography.

Indeed Hornby Dublo wheels for a Castle (he got the GWR part right!) except for one from a 4MT tank. I wouldn't pay more than £1 each for them.

But is it a kit or is it built :scratchhead:

id strongly suspect Kit, I think he is one of those sellers who copies and pastes alot from word or something and just edits a few words to suit himself to save time while listing

I was just impressed he hadnt listed it for alot more
