When my late friend had his antiques and collectibles shop, we used to insist on taking photo ID from anyone coming in off the street selling items. It paid off a few times. Not that the perpetrators ever seemed to get locked up though. 2 1
RMweb Gold Bucoops Posted January 22 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 22 (edited) To coin a phrase, "Crikey!". That's a first Quote Thanks again for reporting the problematic content you found. What happened: We looked into your report and removed the content. It may take up to 24 hours for it to reflect on the site. This determination was made by a customer service agent. It wasn't model railway related but automotive - the old chestnut of "If you bid you will receive a wheelnut" - with the rest of the ad saying they want to buy wrecks. RMweb Gold big jim Posted January 22 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 22 I had an iPod nicked from The glovebox of my wife’s car outside the house many years back, at the time it was an unusual 160gb version, couple of days later I went round the local trade in shops and Game had a 160gb iPod fresh in, had a look and sure enough it was mine, the manager asked how I could prove it so I scrolled to one of my albums called ‘Jim’s DJ Mixes’ which very handily I’d put a photo of myself (stood in front of a class 67) as the album cover! I sneakily saw the name of the person who’d traded it in before going to the police station and when I mentioned I’d seen the name and told them they knew him straight away, he got arrested and it went to court but got away with it as it couldn’t be proved he’d stolen it from the car and he told the police he’d been given it by a friend and didn’t know it was stolen, despite him being a known prolific car thief in the area 1 1
MrWolf
About 25 years ago I had a motorcycle stolen, it hadn't been on the road in decades so there was no logbook. I knew who had stolen it and contacted the police. It didn't even get to court. The thief swore blind I'd given it to them and had already sold it. No further action taken. I told the police that I knew where there was a 1940s Bentley rotting in a shed and was it alright if I went and dragged it out? No. That would be theft. But what if I insisted that someone gave it to me?

RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted January 22 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 22 Pretty much. It's one of those imprecise past tense verbs that are popular in marketingspeak, doesn't mean anything exactly but sounds good, as if the model has been overhauled and is in good condition, or at least cleaned and re-lubed... A great addition to your collection, of course! 1
