EBay madness

Apologies because I think this may have been been posted before but these always make me laugh - £8 (sometimes more) for an empty cider bottle plus £8 postage, when you can buy a full one at Tesco for £5 or so.

I've lost count of the number of these I have put in the recycling. But then maybe I'm the mug for not trying to sell them on eBay!

I have one of the analogue versions of this set so I'm guessing that might be worth a couple of grand...? However I think even I'd baulk at charging £500 postage...

I was thinking that maybe it was a decimal point error in the prices but there are several more - and this is about the only thing that the seller hasn't described as "rare" or "very rare"!

Happy Christmas to all!

Cheers, Neil.

This one has been on the go for months. I did message the seller and ask about the postage and was told that he wanted more money so bulked up the postage price.  That its still hanging around means that no-one has been taken in by it.....yet.

What's a Christmas Train Jet?

Sounds fascinating (scroll through photos).

Here are a couple of possibilities:-

I suppose to make them Christmassy, you would have to put tinsel in the windows or some baubles on the draw hook.

Especially the attempt to invoke the classy vibe of a ‘Pullman’ power bogie.  This was used on the Southern emu, Metrocam dmu, and the TC range Budd railcar before it was resorted to on the Blue Pullmans.  None of those vehicles had correct bogies except the emu power; all used Triang’s generic B1s IIRC.  Not a bad runner (I had a Southern emu) in it’s day, and not the worst possible representation of a Southern power bogie, but very noisy, even by the standards of the day

This little 4-wheeled Drewry is actually pretty much the sort of thing I might have kitbashed when I was about 10 years old, but I didn’t… I did use my emu power bogie to convert a Triang brake van into an ersatz  Wisbech & Upwell loco, though.  Not proud of this, but confession is good for the soul!

You’ve got to give The Gostudester the benefit of the doubt I suppose, as the power bogie might have actually come from a Triang Blue Pullman, but how His Gostudinicity would know this is moot.

Ultimately and looking at sold items , people are willing to pay the prices , so who is the fool now ?

I know its quite entertaining to be outraged at the prices but the twisting of the name and derogatory inclusion is really a bit low

My younger self (I’m 20) always wanted that set, but now I’m at the point where it all looks far too toy-like apart from the pacific.

"You wont have no problems" in shouty capitals says it all.

The first word of the lengthy sales patter being "YOUR", when it should have been YOU'RE or better still, YOU ARE told me everything that I needed to know.

The provenance is sooooo convincing!

He knows all about how it came to him from Russia via Holland, but can't remember the name of the famous maker...

As someone alluded to earlier there's something suspicious about a lot of these eBay items .

Another £2 scrap box special being offered with the decimal point in the wrong place:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204178395055?

😳

Well that cheered my post-xmas bank holiday morning up!

A J69? I thought those GF 0-6-0 tanks were officially "generic"?  It would certainly benefit from an appointment with a lump hammer...

Definitely a dp error. It should be shifted two places to the left!

A few more gems from Rails...here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204170119229

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195528615546 -competing with Hattons....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134120690370 - Tender on backwards!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195529940399 - American loco with front smoke box door missing.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134380118508 - 3-Car EMU?!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195260497385 - Not sure if there was a GWR 97xx loco but this one looks like it's taken a rollover....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204098507869 - This actually looks like something out of the old book series "Trains In Trouble", having been involved in some multiple collision!

A small child would have figured that out pretty quickly I'm certain.

So what do we have here?

Somebody who hasn't got the first idea about trains working in a model railway shop?

Or someone who doesn't give a flying **** about what they're doing?

Or a combination of both?

Err, LNWR Coal Tank? I don't think so.

Another seller who doesn't know what he has got and is rather wide of the mark with the description of it's condition.

I love that it includes a blowtorch nozzle cleaner.
