ozzyo
To me Newbury is nowhere near the South West - more like North West. Id say only Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset can call themselves the "South West" as for "West of England" you can count in anything as far North as Cumbria and Lancashire. For us in the 'new' county of Cumbria or the old bit of Lancashire across the water, we have always said that we are in the north west. OzzyO. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted September 6, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 6, 2011 Refreshing honesty. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHITE-METAL-CLASS-59-LOCO-SERIOUS-PROBLEMS-/350489169653?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item519ac84ef5
Guest Natalie Graham
Not much profit in it either once you add in all the missing parts, build it, paint and weather it before re-selling When you look at the number of nicely built kit locos that sit there with no bids there's probably more profit to be made buying the built kits and stripping them down to their component parts. This "]http://www.ebay.co.u...item415d1b38fb] is quite a nice looking lot but 'Live Steam'?

You could buy 4 packs of Dapol for this and paint all 156 guys yourself. Problem would be finding jobs for them all...... Quite true - if you have the time/skill/inclination. These figures are not cheap - but for a period railway (HVVs were not universal for track workers much before 1970, but their tools are traditional) these do provide an instant feature (or cliche for some!). I have bought loads of cheap painted Chinese figures, which do not bear close scrutiny, but the seated ones are fine in coaches.
Kenton
You could buy 4 packs of Dapol for this and paint all 156 guys yourself

But that takes time and skill not to mention paint and brushes. It is easier to pay some Chinese child laborer who spends 12+hrs a day to do it [Ed] Great minds but not alike in speed of typing Edited September 7, 2011 by Kenton

rovex
I keep an eye on this thread just to make sure that anything I occasionally list doesn't end up on it However I've been keeping an eye on this Wills kit of the ground level signal box, listed at an ordinary price originally and now going for £10.50. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WILLS-OO-SCALE-GROUND-LEVEL-RAILWAY-SIGNAL-BOX-KIT-/320753115390?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4aae6020fe, A quick search shows a "buy it now" at £4.50, unbelievable.... I wish I had that kind of money to waste My wife's constantly amazed by this kind of thing (not only in model railways) but the number of times you see people bidding like this is amazing. Sometimes you have to look elsewhere than Ebay but a quick search will often show up a guide price that you should not exceed. Like they say, 'a fool and his money......' royaloak
There was a Bachmann 25 listed in Euros, I was curious what sort of exchange rate ebay were using so I put a silly £25 bid in to see (4x£25 makes it easy to find out) only trouble was it sold for £23, now got to explain to the other half what is in the box when it arrives . It doesnt help that I spent over £200 on models last month (with permission)

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 11, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 11, 2011 This seems a little odd, the bids have now reached double what one can buy them for directly from the manufacturer! JE Looks rather silly when you examine the 24-bid progress. One bidder has no history, but seems to understand how to make bids in sensible increments. The other spends ages increasing his bid by a £1 here and there until he gets the green light. Both have forgotten the market price of the item in question, as you suggest. The only other bidder chimed in at less than £10, and has not bothered again.
