Instinct is telling me that the two bidders who slogged it out for this one may just have failed to read the description properly as that is an awful lot of cash to part with just for an old Poole tooling Farish body with a mediocre repaint job....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GRAHAM-FARISH-N-GAUGE-CLASS-20-BODY-RAILFREIGHT-20074-DIESEL-LOCOMOTIVE-/353259430523?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=vr1D8EACg4kctcoHqADBhQjTx7Q%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc

I wonder if they realised that they were bidding on a body only? If not, I imagine the winner is in for a surprise?

I have heard that old signal box registers are quite rare. (Don't know whether that is right or not).

Apparently they were stored in the signal box, somewhere, and when the box was closed and demolished they were just disposed of.

(This came from one of the True Line mags, (Caledonian Railway Association)).

Well, there is only the one copy of each register.

At Crowhurst Junction, Southern Region, the Water Tower building survived for many years, if it isn’t still there now.

Many years ago now, I was part of a small group that walked the old Bexhill West branch to Crowhurst Junction.

The station was unstaffed, and we went to look at the water tower.

The floor was covered in old papers, including Train Register books from the local signal boxes.

Unfortunately, those salvaged were lost in a house move!

So, rare, certainly. When pertaining to the one signal box.

In general though, there will be many Train Register Books out there.

There were an awful lot of signal boxes on the railways! ;)

If you think model railway prices are silly see this for a £449 RRP XBoX series X

(And there are bids on it!)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=xbox+series+X&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_sop=16

EDIT

I just checked back to see what it had got to.

Must have been a dodgy listing as it has now vanished completely

It had 36 bids on it up to £28,100!

It's back up again (?)

Still some other very silly prices

That's the one I had linked to but it vanished but is back now!

Something's dodgy as there are now 46 bids but no price increase.

I suspect more fiddles than the London Philharmonic.

Now up to £30k after 52 bids

Surely nobody will pay such a ridiculous price?

It must be a sham.

When I looked earlier there were several BIN for less tha £1000, so why start bidding for that one?

I respect those who tell it like it is. I have also found that such a level of humourous honesty attracts more bidders.

Yes it's damaged and incomplete but you can tell it was once a nice model which has enough plus points to make it worth saving.

It must be a fair age because I remember seeing an article on a really impressive American layout where the branch line was populated mostly with those tramcars. I realised that was when I was really young about 1980.

Now up to £50k, that's more than 100x the RRP:scratchhead:

Where these numbskulls that can afford 50k plus for a console?

I'd like to tap them for a few quid for a good cause (Me)

I am not sure about this one, description refers to a modern Hornby starter set but all the photos appear to show vintage Hornby O gauge and the price looks rather steep.

I have sent a message to the seller asking if the item for sale are the set R1157 or the 'O' gauge items shown in the pictures. It will be interesting to see what the answer is!

Hm, I think a 1939 BSA G14 motorcycle for me (c £16,000) and for Miss Riding Hood a Selmer baritone sax (c £12,000) that leaves £22,000 for fish and chips and the tram back home...

The rate of increase of price is accelerating

You'd have another £12k, so you could have a saveloy on the side as well!

I don't know about chips but there is definitely fish associated with that listing, especially as the price always ends in £100 e.g. currently £62,100. now £65,100 (changed while I was looking at it.)

Saveloys, staple diet of many a midlander when I was a teenager. Now you've got me thinking about a chippy I used to go to in Market Drayton.

At this rate, I could buy that too.

What does this thing do? Bet it's not half as fun as a good shunting layout! :)
