He's also got this Code 3 Royal Scot which seems to have been considerably altered from the manfacturer's spec

The underside of a tatty post-war 25 series Dinky lorry (25b I think - the one with the tin cover). That wouldn't be worth £95 either!

He's also got this Code 3 .....

"Code Red"!

I hope Donald Trump isn't following this thread.

He'll think we are about to launch.

And he can't even spell the name of his eBay store:  he has it as Cartmel Toys Diescast and Trains!

I also realised that this idiot's eBay store is the same one I commented on regarding postage costs a while ago.  His prices for postage to Australia range from GBP 15,495.00 (approx. AU $27,051.32) for "A "HIGHLY ATTRACTIVE & HARD TO FIND"  BTTEEHORNBY MECCANO (DINKY) MODEL OF PART GIFT SET No.RAILWAY ACCESSORIES GS No.4 '' FIRE HOSE HUT,  PRE-WAR EDITION    "TINPLATE LITHOGRAPH RED BODY  WITH GREY ROOF, IN ORIGINAL GOOD+ CONDITION, WITH SOME MINOR RUSTING & A LIGHT SCRATCH TO ONE SIDE OF PAINT", through GBP 50.00 (approx. AU $87.29) for "A "MEGA RARE"  HIGHLY DESIRABLE  DINKY TOYS  UN-BOXED MODEL No.40e  STANDARD "VANGUARD" SALOON FINISHED WITH MAROON BODY &  HUBS, 2nd VERSION CASTING WITH CLOSED REAR WHEEL ARCHES, LARGE BASE LETTERING, REAR  AXLE HELD BY BASEPLATE TABS.     IN  ORIGINAL PLAY-WORN  GOOD+ CONDITION" and down to GBP 4.95 (approx. AU $8.64) for "A UN-BOXED  Hornby  MODEL No. "A2"   24" RADIUS  CURVE LINE ON SLOPING / TAPERED SLEEPERS  IN EXCELLENT CONDITION".

I noticed that the description of the rather tired and playworn post-war Dublo Sir Nigel Gresley (described as being in "original excellent condition") for GBP 166.50 explains away the absence of the tender by saying: "PLEASE NOTE :- THE TENDER  IS NOT MISSING!  Hornby LISTED THE TENDER  AS SEPERATE ITEM".

Not my idea of 'very near mint', but the the condition is reasonable for a model nearly as old as I am (it dates from 1948 or possibly early 1949 - AFAIK all 1947 production was 0-6-2T tanks only available in sets). It is true that the engine and tender were listed individually, but Hornby could spell 'separate'. I'll leave you to decide whether a Dublo A4 is worth over 166 quid.... Be quick because it goes back to 180 in a few days!

He's also got this one!

Rather a lot even for a prewar example (wrong photo attached). He's committed the 'crime' of breaking up the set. A dealer should know better!

I understood that rust and/or scratches degrade an item to 'fair' rather than 'good'.

MINT - just that = perfect

EXCELLENT - slight inconspicuous marks

GOOD - average condition, marked but nothing serious

FAIR - can have marks and slight damage (play worn - a normal sort of condition)

POOR - everything else - can be broken/incomplete, but this should really be stated

Below this is SCRAP - spares or bin.)

It's just registered in this tired old brain that eBay recognises our hobby properly - Trains are listed under 'Collectables', whereas diecast cars come under 'Toys'! :)

My computer has switched to a dodgy format for posting, which has blanked out the toolbars stopping emoticons etc., hence  which is obviously the wrong code.

This seller and his like must be bricking it now that the bottom has fallen out of the dublo market, he's probably got shedloads of virtually worthless stock.

Mike.

It's downright misleading to call something in this condition mint or near mint.  If you're particular about such things, the horseshoe motor would make it more desirable, although whether it's worth what he is asking I'm not sure.  I wouldn't pay anything like that for it but maybe someone else might.

He wants £130.50 for the box (admittedly with track and controller) but it really is only suitable for the recycling bin.  He is asking £625.50 for the articulated coaches, which are in pretty good condition for their age.  I wonder what he would be asking if he kept them all together.....

But if you really want something unusual, he has a rather inexpensive Dublo Bo-Bo Deltic:

I'm actually in the middle of doing this to a Dublo N2.  I just have to apply the lettering and numbers (it will be LMS and not BR though).

There doesn't seem to be any premium for horseshoe A4s and certainly not that much. The track and controller, even pre-war, are not worth a lot and £200-250 is more the going price for a decent articulated set. He's had the Bo-Bo Deltic for ages but it seems hard to sell for some strange reason....

I'm always wary of pre-war stuff. There's always the zinc-pest lurking. It should be OK if it hasn't shown up by now, but I do have a pre-war coach bogie which is only just beginning to show signs of cracking

Needs LMS branding and numbers. A bit Flatironish don't you think?

There is a certain similarity. Dublo thought it looked like an LNWR design though. This is the real 6917.

Not stricly railways, but does anyone want a page torn out of an old Meccano Magazine? (Others are available.)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/m12y-ephemera-1950-s-picture-meccano-brian-hill-carole-west-norwood-/262971662554?hash=item3d3a5520da:g:tCAAAOSw32lYswrE

The seller couldn't even be bothered to post the picture the right way up!

Most Meccano Magazines are available on the internet (not 'collectible', but then neither is an odd page).

He's in good company, though. There are loads of sellers trying to flog pages torn out of the Railway Modeller, etc.
