Doesn't seem to have much storage space. (I wasn't sure whether this model loco had smoke deflectors originally so can't comment)
RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted October 22, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 22, 2013 More a talking point than madness, but I just don't get this. God. The valve gear looks a bit lopsided too! As for the "thingys" (we all know what they are!) 99p for 10 seems expensive, since a pack of 50 costs just over £2 on eBay.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Romford-Pin-Point-Shouldered-Bearings-x-50-00-/380706435446?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item58a3df3176 Usual disclaimer - just a satisfied customer! (I wasn't sure whether this model loco had smoke deflectors originally so can't comment) Perhaps she doesn't work, because she's 3 rail (though repair is quite straightforward)? A reasonable price for a Dublo 'Atholl' (no deflectors is correct - there are examples with, but they arerare valuable collectables), but the tender is likely to be expensive for a good example. Crank pins falling out is common. Edited October 23, 2013 by Il Grifone

(Not by me I hasten to add - I wouldn't pay £10 for one of these either). EDIT Neither sold, so it seems others agree! Crank pins falling out is common. I had a 3-R Atholl secondhand from a neighbour circa 1955. No smoke deflectors, and yes, a crankpin did fall out! A friend's father sleeved it so it stayed a little longer between such events.
Il Grifone
???????????????????????????????????????? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JOUEF-SPARE-ORIGINAL-TENDER-STEAM-ENGINE-IT-NEEDS-TRAIN-SCROLL-DOWN-4-THE-PHOTOS-/360740349236?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item53fdcce534 I'm not sure what this "ideal" for (apart from the bin), but it looks like the sort of junk you see in 50p bargain bins at swapmeets. PatB
Are they granite chippings in the tender or scale water softening briquettes? I assume it's part of a model of British Railways' little known experimental gravel burning loco, an idea mooted by someone who noticed that carbon and silicon are quite close together in the periodic table. The whole thing was abandoned after several years of effort on the grounds, as stated by engineers involved in the project, of being 'bloody stupid' and 'utterly barking'. Its a rehash of the days when drivers got paid a bonus for coal saving, so they whitewashed it so preventing it from being pilfered.
