Adobe Building Plans in 1/48 Scale? (On30)

Recommended Posts

Here's an "off the wall" thing - someone has asked me to build a typical Adobe type building in American O - 1/48 for a On30 narrow gauge micro layout.

I'm torn between a small depot or the Adobe equivalent of a shack.

What I really need is some plans (not a kit) to give me ideas.

Anyone have suggestions? I'll take any! - I did have some sites bookmarked from several years ago but this scale/gauge seems to be full of transient companies!!!!

Don't forget plans or ideas for building Adobe Style structures - I'm thinking a FoamBoard core for a start....

Thanks, Pete.

Found this. US modellers frequently refer to water putty when doing adobe. I'm not really sure what that is. If I was doing it I like Jack would be trying air drying clay. My ON30 layout (currently buried under boxes awaiting garage tidying is set a bit too far north for adobe!

Dear Pete,

"typical" adobe buildings do not exist, as Adobe-style building architecture covers all manner of sizes and uses of building.

That said, these links _may_ give some help...

Hope this helps...

Some great advice / links, Gents!

I found this, which is very useful because it explains why they look like they do and the various architectural terms of the real thing (so we can all appear as Adobe Experts).

I've decided to build an adobe house with small courtyard outback and an adobe sh er,outhouse. I'm going to be using Grandtline C&S Caboose window and doors for it (as a cheap recycled house).

I'm getting into this! I may ask him if I can build the whole layout (using foamboard and insulation). It will be 4' x 4' simple loop with one turnout. Set near Sedona (yeah I know Adobe is a mostly New Mexico thing).

Thanks again. Pete.

Ok, I'm using this thread as an aide memoire to pull things together.

Here's some photos I took of Sedona and the surrounding area a couple of years ago:

You can tell why "Pink Foam Insulation" would come in handy!

Best, Pete.
