They're nice. Very nice. The B&O guys have been pretty impressed by them. The Fox Valley cars have nice bodies but the underframes are kind of spartan. The Exactrail cars are excellent top and bottom.

The B&O M53 wagontop has been more covered than any other freight car

Β

- Cannonball Car Shops styrene kit ( primitive at best, unbuildable at worst!)

- Sunshine Models resin kit (a challenge to build...)

- Wrighttrak resin kit (nice one piece body)

- Fox Valley styrene r-t-r

- Exactrail r-t-r

I saw all the Exactrail B&O wagon top varieties when they came into my local hobby shop being unpacked and pricemarked. Very nice. Best rendition of a very iconic 1940-1950's boxcar I have seen. Nearly all gone immediately to pre-orders.

Wrong era for me, alas. I'm thinking of getting one just to set on my desk, though.

Best, Pete.

Athearn's gone the extra mile on this. The Southern's GP38-2 were oddballs with "switcher pilots" and the extra-wide steps...no doubt Athearn will make the walkway lights, the correct horns, etc. Impressive!

But I also expect the price to be pretty breathtaking too... :rtfm:
