Shed
And 2 more BFKs on the way. Another Bachmann in Blue/grey and a Hornby in NSE. Got a bit carried away the other day on an auction site, I didn't expect to win with the low bids I put in! Got enough BFKs now for 3 trains, just need to try and get some TSOs at a reasonable price! Good luck with that The TSOs are hard to come by cheaply unless you want more of the Lima version Edited May 11, 2016 by Shed 1
ess1uk
What colour should gangway end doors be on mk2 coaches? left to right Lima TSO Lima TSOT Bachmann BFK Hornby BFK Edited August 1, 2022 by ess1uk pictures
ess1uk
doors, the plot thickens the Hornby BFK next to 2 Bachmann BFKs I think they should all be red? since they will be running 3x TSO, 2x BFK, 3x TSO and you won't see the doors normally should i really be that bothered? 1
RMweb Gold fishytrains Posted May 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 20, 2016 If it will annoy you yes, if not, then no! I do seem to recollect seeing the colour of the one on the right before, but it would have been in the 70's or 80's, so I can't be sure. ess1uk
Yep different shades of NSE. Different and mostly wrong gangway colours. No idea if the springs on the NSE coaches should be red or not. No wonder I've got so many wagons, they are much easier
ess1uk
yesterday whilst at DEMU showcase in Burton on Trent I bought 4 model ISO containers. 1x 40 foot and 3x 20 foots pictured are 2 balanced on the Hornby flat that will need modifying to remove the lugs that hold on the old Hornby containers. the plan is to buy a few more when funds permit to enable me to replace the old Hornby containers over time Edited August 1, 2022 by ess1uk pictures

Mike Weren't the colours of the gangway door related to whether the vehicle was a Mk2, Mk2a etc. I remember a orange/ flame red type, a pale green and possibly a beige/fawn colour. How these related to the different types, I couldn't say, but I do remember the Reverend pointing it out. 1

RMweb Premium keefer Posted November 12, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 12, 2016 something along the lines of: Gangway end doors Mk 2a - Lime Green for TSO and BSO. Orangy Red for FK and BFK.Mk 2b - Flame Red. Mk 2c - Flame Red. Mk 2d - Flame Red. Mk 2e - Fawn. Mk 2f - Fawn. The ones with the plain white gangway door should be mk2z (or just mk2, i.e. they came before the mk2a). They were the same end doors as on the mk1. I think they generally slid open to the right, except at toilet ends when they were hinged. Re: the spring colours, IIRC the normal use springs on B4s were red, heavier-duty ones on B5s were blue - of course they would only be visible soon after overhaul, they got dirty quite quickly

RMweb Premium keefer Posted November 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 16, 2016 what number is the Hornby coach? from a quick search: mk2z BFK: 17028-17055 mk2a BFK: 17056-17103 but then again, i don't know which the Hornby is supposed to be if it's a mk2z, then it has the plain white door, if it's a mk2a then it should have red foldy doors. 1
ess1uk
The Hornby is numbered 17086 in NSE but that could just be Hornby picking any number.. It has a solid black door as bought but could be painted white and the number changed.
ess1uk
Also the Hornby coach has different bogies at either end! Edited June 6, 2022 by ess1uk
ess1uk
now to my untrained eye they look like a B4 one end and a BR1 the other? is this Hornby or has it been modified by the previous owner and i've been had again?
Marcus 37
Hi Mate Its been modified I'm afraid. Should be B4 both ends. Mk 2s never ran on B1's. Its a shame as I sold a rake of these recently. Should be easy enough to pick up a replacement though. cheers Marcus
