Popular Post great central
Got the chance to get a decent shot of this when being cautioned into Ancaster this morning. Been here many years and mentioned every so often. Recovery looking highly unlikely, the track to it now has a signal planted in the four foot and it sits on an embankment. 25
Southof1E top tmd
Not sure the exact dates of the few original overhead gantries at Shenfield station are, could date from the 50's. The attached image shows what i assume is an original gantry number plate looks like shade of GE green on it too. Whatever , pretty old! NR

LMS2968
From the first Parkside station on the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, 1830, and where William Huskisson was run over. RMweb Gold 4630 Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 27, 2020 Weymouth Harbour Tramway on 27th September 2020 - the single track at the start of the tramway heading away from its junction just outside Weymouth station... the remains of the track, buildings and platform at Weymouth Quay station. Oh to hear a ‘Crompton’ ticking over at the head of the Up Channel Islands boat train today.

RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 16, 2020 One from bescot from the days when they used to set back Trains from the up side to the down side using white lights, must have walked past this dozens of times and never noticed it the control switches for the lights, one of which can be seen in the bridge hole to the right of the 15 sign, the lights stretch all the way past tame bridge station for about 1/4 mile and are still there to this day, basically once the train got beyond the points to set back from the up to the down and the route was set and signal off the lights could be switched on so the driver knew the road was set and safe to set back 10

great central
A picture or two taken today, we were doing Nottingham-Sheffield via Beighton due to engineering works. Our services only usually come this way early morning so it's mostly dark or very late evening when it's always dark! First off a rather poor shot of something I've been trying to get for several years since first seeing it. A short distance to the west of Woodhouse station I noticed this almost buried in the trees, completely invisible when they're in full leaf so out of 4 passes today I managed to get this one photo. We were doing over 50mph and unless you can get it square on it's very difficult to see. A steam age water column, really it is! Next is something I've not noticed until today but again it's more likely to be dark when I come this way. A signal bracket near Nunnery Junction, although the tracks must have been quite dramatically realigned in this area as it seems the lines over the bridge only go a short distance before disappearing into the side of a building. I can only think it was the original alignment down to Nunnery main line junction, which would have made it quite steep and sharply curved compared with the current alignment.
great central
A couple more from today, the erstwhile MS&L London extension, otherwise GC, bridge over the Midland old road near Beighton. It looks to be in quite reasonable condition given its had no maintenance in many years, apart from the removal of most of the decking and beams. Presumably removing the main structure is considered far too costly and inconvenient to be worthwhile until it becomes absolutely necessary.
eastwestdivide
That bridge near Beighton and other railway remains can be seen (better in winter) from the Transpennine Trail beside Rother Valley Country Park.

Hmm, I'd like to get a look at some of these things once we're allowed away from home again. Could have had 3 hours or so in Sheffield yesterday but decided against, partly due to restrictions, and it was ruddy cold!

Barclay
When I was a spotter in the 1980's this could be seen on a bridge in Chelmsford. A sign warning the drivers of locomotives (of the road variety) that the bridge over the railway was insufficiently strong to bear more weight than the usual traffic of the area. You would think that a sign prohibiting any vehicle over a certain weight would be simpler, and safer! I don't know if it is still there... Nice 'green wall', supermarkets and office blocks spend a fortune on features like that That would make quite a nice model as a scenic feature, all the greenery spreading over the side of the van... 1

dseagull
Not quite as impressive as some, but still an interesting survivor. Was wandering through Eastbourne station yesterday when I had the sudden realisation that the platform numbers (on the glass, not the platforms themselves) date from Network SouthEast times. I thought the last sign (for the cycle rack IIRC) had gone a few years previously, but the numbers are still there.
