dave_long
Just thought I'd share this vid with everyone. Set in the back streets of Chicago on ex BN and ex CB&Q lines BNSF recently got the job of switching this district again after CIRY ( the Central Illinois railroad ) went out of business at the start of the year. You can see the 2 SW9s that CIRY used to use in the compound. But this is a sparkling GP39-2R ex GP30 in BNSF heritage III scheme and you get right up close and personal with her and its great if your planning on modelling one! I like US horns but this guy seems to love it more than most!! Β Its also a great vid for all sorts of detailing, loco, freight cars, track, buildings, scenery. Guess what I'm building next... trisonic
I can't just "Like This"! Β I've got to say Tasty! - I really like that livery. Call the model: "Desolation Row". Β Best, Pete.
shortliner
What a great video - that is absolutely "Classic", slow speed, one car at a time, urban grot, back-street, city switching by an engineer who has a really delicate touch on the throttle and shows people how it should be done - inching that loco and car through the gap where those cars are parked - rather than the 40mph up and down the yard that we tend to to be treated to on a great many exhibition layouts, aka "playing trains". Lovely - thanks for posting it, Dave - made my day - and inclined me even more to my trackplan Jack
dave_long
I'm glad thats made your day Jack, it brought a massive grin to my face this morning too. Not sure if any of you opened it on youtube but chicagojoe has another film from the same day. Its quite similar but what caught my eye is the first minute of the video, bit of accident? (want to weather the underside of a hopper?) Β Β Dave
steve1
I guess that at the end of the day they put the loco back in a massive cardboard box marked 'Athearn Genesis'.... Β steve
Jon Gwinnett
Dave, that's just superb. Thank you! Β And Pete, I think this gives your GP30 a run for its money as the handsomest one left!

Guest Natalie Graham
what caught my eye is the first minute of the video, bit of accident? dave_long
Yes Jack, that was the first video I watched yesterday, if you look down the comments they were both there at the same time, apparently chicagojoe is actually in that video. Β For those that like their switching locos dirty and rusty ( and BIG ) this is the same track but working through a tight alley to get round to Kramer & co Metals: Β

F-UnitMad
Would take a brave person to give a model a good dose of gloss varnish! I'm looking for Satin varnish at the moment to do that to my PGR locos, since they're kept shiny. I think gloss would be too much on a model, but they don't quite look just 'right' in flat matt finish. Only trouble I'm having is finding an Acrylic Varnish Aerosol, if there is such a thing, as I've found clear varnishes difficult to airbrush (just me - I'm sure the experts amongst you do it all the time), and some enamel aerosols can attack previous painted surfaces. Any ideas, anyone? Β Nice videos, too! I've been watching the CIRY clips on a C-Vision DVD ("Windy City Rails Vol7) and they are very inspirational!! Β Dear F-Unit, Β It wasn't for the same reason, but when it came time to spray-bomb "Brooklyn" with gloss to simulate the "wet look" of rain and drizzle, I only had to go as far as the same rack I get my regular "emanel flat black" (legs, backdrop, staging area), "sky blue" (backdrop), and "clearance cans" (Brooklyn Signage) at the local hardware store. Β Just make sure to keep the coat _LIGHT_, gloss enamel can build up very quickly, obliterating details and drying into yellowish pools/drips/capilliary-mounds... shortliner
Jordan - Ghiant may do one - but Schmincke certainly do - 50 405 Fixativ, universal - where you will get it I know not (I got mine in a little art shop in Bonar Bridge!) not cheap (around Β£9 per can) These people may help http://www.londongra...rpage/20/page/1 >> scroll down the page>> Β or even better (cheaper anyway) http://www.7dayshop....oducts_id=61027 Β HIH Jack Β also http://www.humbrol.com/paints/modellers-spray-paint/ad6999-135-enamel-varnish-150ml-satin-modellers-spray/ Β and this runs out tomorrow 140653054426

shortliner
Thats what I use them for - spray 2-3 light coats (I give 30 mins between coats) rather than one heavy one - ensure paint is thoroughly dry first - I used to use Letraset 103 mattcote, but it seems to be out of production
