I was told that it was safe for birds to land on the power lines, provided they didn't put one foot on the ground.

This is true, isn’t it?  OTOH, you don’t see many pigeons on the OLE…

There are some fascinating videos on YT of power line workers in the US hanging out of helicopters to do work on live high voltage lines.  Provided they don't put one foot on the ground...  😉

A friend of my son said she saw a pigeon sitting happily on a power line until it stretched its wing out and touched the pole...............

So, a year or so later when a friend told me all about the gas fridge his family had just acquired, I wasn’t having it; fool me once, shame on you &c.

They used to be quite popular at one time. Totally silent of course as there was no motor.

IIRC There was an episode of the CH5 series about Paddington station where a pigeon got between the OHE and a bridge which caused a flashover.

One less pigeon of course.

Or elephants and giraffes.

Score one for the disruptive camouflage of the humble giraffe.  Elephants, of course, have painted their toenails red and are hiding in cherry trees as opposed to OLE.

So…..all you modellers with OLE, do you have problems when your Triang giraffe wagon is in the train?

I'd have thought the Auto Drop Device would have solved that?

I'm sure I've seen some OLE somewhere look a suspiciously yellowish colour. Think it was the WCML somewhere down south...

One of my earliest recollections was my father telling me that the lights emitted from them was due to a very small man running in front of us, along a tunnel under the centre of the road, and shining a lamp up through the cats eyes!🙂

That reminds me of when I asked why it rains, Dad's answer:

"The black clouds cover up the white clouds and the white clouds cry."

I would rather see the inside of that.

Just an ordinary valve radio inside, the gas bit was an add on device which would probably have set the wooden case on fire!  Valve radios were hot inside at the best of times...

I'm not sure if this is Whacky or new, but it is at least a Sign.

Cos this thread has recently been more about Tangents than Sines.

On the contrary. The little sods perch en masse, and then, as you approach, several things happen...

Clever ones climb.

Daft ones dive.

Some "break left".

Some break your windscreen.

I always check but I never see a parachute.....

The elephant is a pretty bird
It flits from twig to twig
It makes its nest in a rhubarb tree
And whistles like a pig.

The elephant is a pretty bird
Its hair is long and wavy
It makes its nest in a rhubarb tree
And lays its eggs in gravy.

Haa Haa Haa

Hee Hee Hee

Elephant's nest in a rhubarb tree.

Can you get gas powered OHL in 00?

Judging by the number of gas fired power stations it is quite possible to have gas powered OLE all the way from 00 to full size!

Surely ... the weight of the elephants makes the rhubarb crumble?
