Not quite correct. The proposed spaceport (satellite launching pad) would occupy part of the RAF site but another part has been re-opened by the RAF as part of a new remote sensing network. Unlike the former equipment, in use up to 2005, which needed personnel on site to keep it working, the current equipment operates remotely, only requiring occasional site visits. So the three civilians on working days only is, I'm afraid, a gross exaggeration. Technology in this field continues to progress.

That won't do any harm but the trouble is that the people crossing the line will assume the horn is the train they've just got off.

Years ago, in another life, I worked at a small engineering company and we had one particular apprentice who wasn't the brightest of lights. He would regularly get sent on fools errands. Once I filled in a store requisition and asked him to go the store to get it. It was for a long weight. Chitty was duly handed over. After about 15 minutes, Albert, the foremen, noticed he had been at the counter for a while and asked what he was waiting for. Needless to say, those at our workstation were duly reprimanded, while Albert tried not to laugh. Many moons ago I also worked for a small engineering company. The foreman would send new lads into town to an ironmongers that was about ten minutes walk away. The ironmongers would play along for a couple of days or so and then put the lad straight. One lad kept going for over two weeks and the foreman kept laughing at the lad's stupidity. A chance conversation with the secretary revealed that the lad lived just around the corner from the factory. The penny dropped and it was the lad who had the last laugh. He knew it was a wind up from the start and he was just going home for an hour each time. Needless to say, the foreman never did it again. 5 6

RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted September 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 18, 2023 (edited) The foreman at a local engineering works sent the new lad to the stores for a dozen half-inch holes.
