I hate to be obtuse, but just what is funny about that sign?

Referring to the shape of a certain male organ

He used to keep some hard to find records.

Some years ago I heard a piece of renaissance/early music on a BBC TV programme that I didn't recognise.

I rang the BBC to find out what it was and spoke to the programme's producer, who told me the title & album it was from.

I then tried to buy a copy and found that the shop in Needless Alley was the only place that kept a copy.

That must have been quite a few years ago. I think he went out of business sometime in the late 80s.

I changed to CDs in 1985 and it was a while before then.

Meanwhile in Birmgham:

Since absorbed into Jennens Road

It was originally the boundary between Aston & Birmingham when they were separate boroughs and Aston was much bigger than Birmingham

Boundary stone on that building still exists and has been placed where that building was:

A B Row.

Is that where Baldrick wrote his dictionary?

Baldrick: Well, it’s a buzzing thing, isn’t it. “A buzzing thing.”

Edmund: Baldrick, I mean something that starts with `A-B’.

Baldrick: Honey? Honey starts with a bee.

George: He’s right, you know, Blackadder. Honey does start a bee…and a flower,
too.

There is a street here in Chester called "Why Me Lord St."; I would get a photo of the sign but the area is not the best. :(

That's not Chester.    Where are the Romans? :prankster:

Chester, the home to the scary doll shop. :scared:

For a moment I thought JSB was talking about Blacon, that can be rough...

Presumably originally "Chains Required"?

Yes. It's a nice letter substitution in the retouching but pretty obvious, certainly to people who have seen the "CHAINS REQUIRED" signage.

What is also odd is the 25 mph speed limit - which looks modified too. The sort of road that would have "CHAINS REQUIRED" signage is more likely to have a 55 mph speed limit.

Not sure what the 8E-A addition is supposed to be about. It just looks wrong - particularly the stencil "8".

Better done than some that get posted.

Maybe 8E-A is a signage number for the benefit of relevant authorities?

Most UK signs have a number but usually on the back.

That would be on the back or in tiny lettering. It just looks wrong.

There's a California 'chains required' sign here. Oregon signage is slightly different.

... suspect

??? There's no question in my mind it is a manipulated image, likely from California. I count five modifications at least including:

BRAINS for CHAINS (x2)

25 for 55

The addition of the 8E-A

NATURAL SELECTION

Definitely been 'shopped, I could see straight away.

However why change the speed limit? Can't see the logic of that, to me 55 would work just as well.

Why add the 8E-A? Just puzzling, unless it's some form of the 'shoppers "trade mark".
