RMweb Premium Kris Posted August 17, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 17, 2011 Have you accidentally wired the motor on to an AC feed?
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted August 17, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17, 2011 Check the alignment, the throw of the motor should be in exactly the same line as the tiebar.

Katier
Does the motor work fine without the point in place?

Guest oldlugger
Maybe the link between the motor and the base of the point is pushing the switch blades upwards and causing friction on the movement of the blade tiebar under the stock rails, or maybe the linkage (rod) on the motor is slightly bent? As both fail to operate the point, then the problem is almost certainly the point itself (try another spare point to see if that works) or the way you've fixed the motor to the baseboard. Edwin_m
What sort of supply are you using them on - voltage and maximum rated current?
smokebox
Check the wiring. Hornby use black as the common wire. On surface mount point motors, Peco use green as the common.
Lady_Ava_Hay
You say Peco point. Have you removed the over centre spring?

Simon Hi ive now lifted the point and tried it fitted directly to the point same thing happens, tried another large radius peco point does the same thing, tried it on 2 diffrent small radius points and it works fine on the large and medium radius points they still have the spring fitted could this be the problem? cheers

Butler Henderson
The problem could be the over-centre spring is too strong, Try with a small screwdriver pushing the spring retaining clip slightly further from the tiebar - that should loosen the spring slightly. Classsix T
As above is a good tip (found out the hard way, believe me) the first port of call for me though is to dab a tiny amount of modeller's lube oil on the bar either side of the motor pin. Even a loose point tie-bar won't move if the motor itself is sticky. More knowledgeable folk on here will tell you exactly what type of lube is suitable. HTH, C6T. d600
Well got so fed up with it i brought some wire and tube 20mins and point is now operated from the baseboard side easy lol thanxs for all your help boys. cheers
Jenny Emily
I've had problems with sticky Peco motors that WD40 sprayed on the pin that slides through the centre of the two coils fixed. Sometimes new point motors have a tendency to jam until lubed up.
