When Mrs Thatchers Privatisations were under way, they called for colossal printing operations involving a large part of the entire industry co-operating 'on the night'. One result was a TPO

special standing in the dark at Par, 6 bogies and Post Office crews, with a 47 quietly ticking over at the head. Waiting for the lorries to start arriving from the printers (St Ives, Roche) to be loaded. In a slight drizzle, The P.O. crews sat on the tracks directly under their vans, with small cookers going beside them, for tea and light hot snacks. Little fires twinkling all along the siding. Presumably fire in the vans was forbidden. I gave the right away to the crew at about 2.20 am as I recall, about 20 minutes early. Quite an experience for all concerned. Rail performed faultlessly.
