Raffles
I thought we'd have a thread filled with useful photographs. If Andy gets the Group galleries sorted then we can always move them into there but here are some to get us started. I'll add some more as I dig them out... feel free to join in if you have some useful shots. If anybody has any particular photos they would like to see appear here, let me know as I (and phaeton) have access to a couple of splendid examples of the real thing.
Beacon
Those are great. I'm just about to start work on detailing a few Vitrains models. Any chance of some internal cab shots from anyone?
Raffles
Conveniently, I shall be putting bits back in '376 tomorrow. I shall get some shots.
tomstaf
Hi Matt, Some really useful shots there. Any chance of some more of the horn box on the cab roof, with a tape measure in shot too if poss? Thanks Tom
Raffles
Hi Tom, If I get time I will (and if I can find a ladder...). I'll take a tape measure.
Raffles
Some more from last week. Getting '376 running again took priority so I didn't manage to get the shots of the horn grille. Here are some more external detail shots: General external view with the roof hatches open. Bufferbeam details. Note that '376's headlight is fitted centrally. I believe there is only one other loco with this arrangement. Front end shot, again showing the odd headlight placement. Brake rigging. Marvellous stuff and very clever.
Raffles
...and a few from inside: What the driver saw... The desk including the NRN telephone. Secondman's side, including the all-important rattling hot plate. AWS equipment and fire bell A door.

tomstaf
Matt kindly arranged a trip for reference phots. Here are a selection of 47105. My general photting methodology is a quite shot of the overall part I'm measuring, then a close up of the actual measurement. Hope they're helpful MORE TO FOLLOW SOON. Jon020
Do you have any shots of the small square panels just ahead of the windscreens - horizontal panels about 1" across (?). I need to put these back in on my Bachmann one having reprofiled the nose a little. Ta jon Edit - ah, maybe not flat panels http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_zoom_v2.php?img=1084052018211 Edited February 27, 2012 by Jon020
Raffles
Not to hand Jon, but I'll be working on 1693 again next Sunday so could get some shots for you. Just to be clear, do you mean the washer jets? Edited February 27, 2012 by Raffles
Jon020
Not to hand Jon, but I'll be working on 1693 again next Sunday so could get some shots for you. Just to be clear, do you mean the washer jets? Actually, I think the linked photo did it for me. Yes they look like the remains of the jets, but only found a couple of shots with actual pipes that looked like jets. It looks like most have a small plate with bolt assy on it... which I've now represented... and that's as fine as I probably need to go to in 4mm. Thanks for the reply though. Jon020
Jon, These? Cheers Tom Yup.., that them. A detail that doesn't show up in many photos ... apart from the one I linked to originally. I've made something that sort of looks like them (hopefully). Thanks... Jon
tomstaf
Hi all, I took some close-up pics with a tape measure of the 'shapes' on a cut away buffer beam but can't find them anywhere I need them for the etch I'm drawing up, so hoping some kind person here can help. Has anyone got the dimensions and the positioning from the edges of the 'shape' parts I've outlined in orange please? Cheers Tom
Raffles
Hi Tom '376 has these but I won't be near it again for a couple of weeks.

Pugsley
Tom - you could scale those from the wheel in your photo - and it'll get you within 0.1-0.2mm of actual scale size.
tomstaf
Tom - you could scale those from the wheel in your photo - and it'll get you within 0.1-0.2mm of actual scale size. Err, how do you mean Pugs, I'm not really sure how to do that or which dimension you're using (Confused.com)? Cheers Tom
Raffles
I think he's saying that the wheel diameter is a set figure (3ft9ins, or 3.75ft if you prefer). Using this, you can assume that the wheel in the photo is that size and find out a scale from there. Then, use that scale to measure the bufferbeam fittings in the photo and scale them up. Or, I should have the measurements next weekend.
Jon020
I don't suppose you have any close up of the rad shutters do you? I plan to cut them out of my loco and model them open ... using some strip material (brass?) some close ups might be useful. Thanks... if you can oblige Jon
