pH
Winter of '63 I see - is there a stopping train buried in there? https://youtu.be/oHal9cCVWI0 Possibly this - https://www.gotopcs.net/60535.htm . 60535 was stuck, and originally buried deeper than in that picture, on the Waverley route during the 1962-3 winter. RMweb Premium coronach Posted December 30, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 30, 2018 The detail on the J36 is superb... Weathering the model makes it much more visible . I particularly like the sander control rods.
RMweb Premium coronach Posted December 31, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 31, 2018 Happy new year to my fellow enthusiasts, and happy modelling in 2019. Here's to Hornby announcing a 00 gauge D34 'Glen' in 2019.... Cheers
RMweb Premium coronach Posted January 12, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2019 (edited) I decided to have a go at weathering my Hornby K1 (whilst listening to 'Railways Recalled by Peter Handford). The loco has been renumbered to 62011, an ex Fort William loco transferred to the NE in 1962 after the diesels took over in Scotland. Here are some cruel close up shots..... RMweb Premium coronach Posted January 26, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 26, 2019 Genesis of an ex NER D20, which would have arrived on the line via the Border County route from Hexham. This is a white metal DJH kit so it will have plenty of inbuilt weight to assist with adhesion. So far, it I proving to be an easy build. I have decided to construct the whitemetal body using Delux Glue 'n' Glaze adhesive to avoid the risk of damaging parts with a soldering iron. This glue is very easy to use, dries clear and is very strong. Hopefully it will stand the test of time. The only casualty - so far - is one broken brass crank pin, however the kit includes two spares :-)
RMweb Premium coronach Posted January 26, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 26, 2019 (edited) . We have connecting rods ! In the background is Mrs Coronach, embarking on a cable knitting project - much more complicated than assembling a loco kit ! RMweb Premium coronach Posted February 17, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 17, 2019 Here is the next new loco expected to attempt the climb over Whitrope. Ex NER/LNER D20 62396 at the very end of its life in 1956/7. This engine would probably have reached the line via the Border Counties route from Hexham.
RMweb Premium coronach Posted March 19, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 19, 2019 i have at last got around to fitting some spotlights to the layout, which makes such a difference by highlighting the darker scenic corners and creating some shadows in an otherwise bland lighting environment. It has also given me an impetus to refine and complete some of the scenery around the tunnel mouth. Photos to follow, however in the meantime here are a couple of shots of the D20 under construction and two photos of trains taken from a traffic jam in Beijing! The Beijing photos are relevant because I had plenty of time whilst stuck in traffic to plan what parts of the layout I would develop next lol 1
RMweb Premium coronach Posted March 19, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 19, 2019 I was fortunate to have a free day whilst in Beijing and visited Tianenmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Chinese Emperor treasure exhibitions. - £3 to visit plus £1 to see the treasures !!!!! On the way back I found the national railway museum but it was closing time. Just had time to look in the shop where there were some very nice gauge 1 brass steam loco models for about £1500 each. Somewhere to visit next time perhaps.
RMweb Premium coronach Posted May 27, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) some photos of the north bound Midland Scot sleeper from St Pancras to Edinburgh Waverley, hauled today by two Sulzer type 2s rather than the usual type 4. RMweb Premium coronach Posted May 30, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2019 A few shots taken of Stanier Class 5 heading a late evening stopping train into Whinburgh station... The three passenger coaches are 'old' Bachmann Thompsons fitted with replacement Comet sides. A much cheaper option when compared with a purchase of 'new' Thompsons - and more satisfying in modelling terms.

RMweb Premium coronach Posted October 21, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 21, 2019 (edited) I have been watching some Ken Elwood films of the end of steam in the NW, which has inspired me to run some goods trains this evening. Firstly here is a Black 5 hauled loose coupled goods typical of the late 60s. Apologies for the absence of a headcode.
