Worsdell forever's Workbench - Loads of North Eastern Stuff

Recommended Posts

Don't try this at home...

That's probably the only way some women I've met can get make up off.

My Gxd that must be the ugliest loco to ever have graced the North East,

Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that. To my eyes, there's something extremely appealing about asymmetrical wheelbase.

yep and soon to be a Judith Edge kit

B*ll*cks! That looks like my "No More Kits" pledge has just blown out the window.

Paul. That sand blaster looks worth the money. Think I'll give one a try.

Made a start at least!

I've settled for Phoenix Precision M910 'Light Grass Green', it just looks right.

I think the green clashes with your wallpaper.

I've really enjoyed watching this build progress and its nice to see the loco nearing completion. The sand blaster looks a useful bit of kit too; might have to treat myself to one of those.

Got a bit further with painting tonight, the black, the red on the bufferbeams and the brass ring behind the smokebox. The paint has been removed from the safety valve cover and whistle.

Very impressive - a little beauty.

2 o-6-0 chassis', 2 green painted bodies, tis but a small step to move up to something decent and useful like a diesel shunter Paul.

Bring them along at the weekend, (yes, we're doing missionary work in Newcastle), and I'll finish the wasp stripes off for you.

Mike.

(yes, we're doing missionary work in Newcastle)

and as such; missionaries will be expected to give many free trinkets & discounts to the local ignoarti.

and then cast away any coverings from your various organs of locomotion (walk bare foot) to travel but a few hundred yards from the venue to pay homage at Dial Cottage

https://goo.gl/maps/wpaLK991xGK2

to the past residents, Mr George and Mr Robert Stephenson (Engineers) without whom we would have no railways. Tiz here you will be expected to kneel in the local mud and generally bow in the direction of the Sundial.

Failure to fulfill this missionary duty will result in the penance of decamping to the local hostelry known as the Brandling Villa (So named after the well known 19 century railway promoters) where for atonement, ye shall purchase some of the many and varied ales for both me and my heathen followers for the rest of the day. (For those of a stingy nature from south of the River Tees beers & alcoholic beverages are sold in the convenient measure of 1/3 of a pint).

For a further small inducements, steps may also be taken by one of my followers, that could lead to many female nursing staff from the local hospital turning up at said hostelry. (They like toy twains.)

...would this be the establishment you were referring to Poursee??

That looks like the very institution. Renowned for purveying dinners for doggies. (Hounds)

Perhaps we may see Mr Galoon there accompanied with his locomotive this Sunday cometh?

3 further things Poursea...1./ you make me sound like a pimp!!! and 2./ that is the last time I set you up on a blind date (its not my fault she really was washing her hair that night)...and 3./ she has never mentioned 'toy trains (liking or disliking) to me...but has mentioned the 12" to the foot train she does own...

Sorry Paul for interrupting your thread to correct Uncle Poursee.

The 'long boiler' looks fantastic btw, all power to you elbow and from where I'm sitting the injuries sustained in its creation have got to be worth it.  My Great Grandad Tom used to drive one from Shildon to Cockermouth and back every day...a 15 hour shift and the best paid footplate job on the NER at the time apparently.

Whats one of those?

2./ that is the last time I set you up on a blind date (its not my fault she really was washing her hair that night)...

How do you know I wasn't talking about some of the other female nursing staff that look after my every need (Medical and medicinal) whilst incumbent in local hospital?

3./ she has never mentioned 'toy trains (liking or disliking) to me...but has mentioned the 12" to the foot train she does own...

See answer to 2./ but I had forgot about the tankie she owns and that the boiler certificate is current.

Sorry Paul for interrupting your thread to correct Uncle Poursee.

I too apologise for said diversions Mr G. but the North Eastern Region of BR was very well known for it's weekend diversions. (See article by the late Mr. Ian S Carr in the Railway World Annual for 1963.)

Thanks, I've heard that was a well paid job, won't have been easy one though.

Lovely job paul but it still looks like a miss-shapen over ripe 'Granny Smith' to me....

See ya Saturday?

Dave Franks.

As Dave says, a beautiful bit of modelling...of a hideous, misshapen prototype.

(no fruit were harmed in this post)

They will be green, eventually.

I did wonder, but not specialising in knowledge of NE steam in the Victorian era I didn't want to suggest that black wheels would be "wrong" - you might have had good evidence for a specific example!

The loco looks a little beauty by the way. How could anybody think the combination of distinctive long boiler and wrap-over cabs "miss-shapen"?
