NORTHEASTERN KITS

Hi Johan,

You won’t find a better brass kit than one of Arthur’s to start with.  The J73 was the first I built,  but I’m sure the J71 or J72 would be a good start.  I had built other brass kits before but that just showed me how good Arthur’s are.

Janet, please pass on my best wishes to your dad.

Hello Janet, are any of the available or waiting list kits recommended for a novice? I’ve never build a loco before (apart from old Airfix and Revell ones) but I do have experience in wagon building and brass soldering.

Hello Johan,

Thank you for your enquiry and my apologies for the slow reply. I’ve spoken to Dad to ask him if any of the kits are easier to build than the others. From what I understand, they are all about the same in difficulty. JWelleans, on the post after yours, has made some helpful comments, which may help you to decide.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Janet

Good afternoon Janet.

Could I be added to the list for a F8 please, is there a J73 still available? I'll take one if there is.

Is there an update on the status of the C6 please.

All the best,

Paul.

I’ve just been talking to Arthur’s daughter about his Q5. She is running short of sandboxes and I don’t have the moulds.  Can one of you experts confirm the those on the Q6 are the same? You may recall I did a whitemetal kit for that and we still have the moulds.

I happen to have the Chivers Q6 and Arthur’s Q5 in “stock”.

I agree with Mick that these look to be the same…..

Side on view (Q5 on top, Q6 beneath)….resting on the Q6 box top

And underneath the views look similar as well…..

Hope these help.

Hello Everyone!

I’m asking for help again. I need some 1mm square brass rods for the slide bars on the D20 and Tennant. Dad used to buy them from Eileen’s Emporium but I’m struggling to find another supplier. I’ve seen a couple of suppliers on EBay but suggestions from you lovely folks, would be fantastic.

Kind regards,

Janet

Hello Janet,

Cambrian Models took over some of Eileen's metal products and the square sections can be found here:

Thank you so much, Steve! It’s good to have that information.

I’ve had a quick look and it seems ok, not quite the perfect length but I can work around that.

Kind regards

They MAY be prepared to supply a more suitable length, pro-rata.

4D Models in London also supply brass rod in 1m lengths: https://modelshop.co.uk/Shop/Item/Brass-rod-1000mm/ITM1943

At £4.80 per length it looks very reasonable.  May be worth following up?

Steve

That's rod - what is sought is 1mm. square section.

You are welcome.

When I built Arthur's D20 and Q5 kits I replaced the 1mm square brass with 1mm square nickel silver as I thought the colour was more realistic. I purchased it from Mainly Trains about 10 years ago and unfortunately they too are no longer in business.

Luckily I have enough left to last me the rest of my life providing I can remember where I put it :-)

Thank you, John.

I might investigate further, although I think Cambrian Models will be fine. I’ll work around the 250mm length.

Ha ha! That sounds very much like Dad, bless him. He’s so sure we’ve already got some but all I found was a 60mm length. That may stretch to 3 slide bars! :)

I’ll bear in mind your nickel silver substitute.

Thank you, HTH!

They seem to have a good selection. Now that I have several possibilities, I can start comparing prices and postage.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Thank you so much for all your help in locating places that can supply 1mm square brass rods. You’ve all been brilliant.

Unbelievably, NONE of the mentioned companies had been listed in the Google searches that I had made, so I’m truly grateful to the modelling community for re-directing me to the right places.

Kind regards,

Janet
