Wintonian
CLUB CELEBRATES 50th BIRTHDAY IN 2014 In the early days the club was known as the “Petersfield, Liphook, Liss and District Model Railway Club” and we have a group photograph from 1965 which was printed in a local newspaper, possibly the Petersfield Post, with an article about the club. In those days they met in members’ homes and the picture was taken at 83 The Close, Gunn’s Farm which was (is)in Liphook. Amongst the members in the photographs are Ron M, Steve E, David L, David G, Chris B, Don D, Adrian M and Ron G(?). At the AGM for that year held in the home of Mr and Mrs R G in January 1966 members agreed to an annual subscription of 12 shillings (60p) and voted £10 towards a club layout which is to be shown at local shows and fetes. Reference is made to a very successful model railway exhibition at Haslemere Educational Museum presumably in 1965. Mr S.T E was made club secretary with Mr G as treasurer. By 1966 the club name has been shortened to the current title- as we have a poster for an event on May 7th, called “May Fair” held in the Liphook Village Hall in aid of the Hall improvement fund, which lists “exhibition by Liphook & District Model Railway Club”. This event was opened by Geoffrey Adams who played the part of Detective Constable Lauderdale in Dixon of Dock Green. We have a photograph of him looking at part of a model railway layout with members Malcolm L and Adrian M looking on. This appears to be the club’s first exhibition. We do not know the date of the first meeting, but we believe it was held in a members house in Petersfield. After a period of meeting at members houses, The Pavillion in the garden of The Anchor in Liphook was used followed by a converted poultry house in Bramshott, a building that was part of the Longmoor Military Railway, another farm building this time a milking parlour in Milland, a members double garage also in Milland followed by our current abode. If any of you recall earlier days of the club- we had early members of the Gauge 0 Guild at one time, or attended our early exhibitions please contact us with any snippets of information Contact details on our website www.millandvalleyrailway.co.uk Many Thanks Edited September 3, 2013 by Wintonian
RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted May 23, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 23, 2011 By way of an update, the recent AGM has seen a change to the club committee. Martin remains as chairman, and his contact details are unchanged; however I have taken on the dubious delightful honour of club secretary. If there is anyone interested in a club in the east Hampshire, southwest Surrey and West Sussex area then we could be for you. The club still covers a wide range of interests and gauges, and are in the process of starting work on designing some new layouts....as it currently stands 'anything goes'! The club's trials and tribulations are covered at length on RMWeb; check out our club's blog... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/100-liphook-district-mrc-blog/ Any interest, please feel free to drop me a PM. Wintonian
Members & visitors had an enjoyable day at" Model Trains in Petersfield" The first two or three hours saw a steady flow of visitors to our second open day event in Petersfield. Unfortunatelyafter lunch a combination of a bright sunny day and several top sporting events on TV conspired to mean we ended the day with numbers down on last year. However those who visited seem to have enjoyed themselves. The members certainly did, enjoying a long period of playing trains with mainly new layouts. Thank you to all who attended Edited June 10, 2015 by Wintonian

RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted December 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 16, 2016 As we approach the end of 2016, the club has seen a year of transition. As mentioned above, there has been some personnel changes, but we are still fighting fit and ready for 2017! Our main change has been to take over the main hall of our current meeting venue for the majority of our club nights - we now have more space ever imagined for 35 weeks of the year; the rest will be in the committee room. This gives us the opportunity to carry out work on both layouts simultaneously and means we can actually run things on a more regular basis; which is what it is all about surely? Our club open day back in October was a success, with a good number of visitors and a decent opportunity to play trains! This was held, as always, in the main hall of our meeting venue; now our club room! This year's guest stars were the Farnham club with their 0 gauge layout Haydon Square. The layout is still under construction, but was fully operational and provided some much needed 0 gauge in our lives! A few snaps of the day overall In more detail: Haydon Square: I am rather peeved that my pictures of Haydon Square were indifferent, to say the least. This is the best of the bunch. Thank you to the Farnham club for bringing it along. Titherleigh: Titherleigh is our new 00 layout - based on a Railway Modeller plan from about 1980 (although in this case mirrored). It is set in 1950 Southern Region west country and is due for completion in the new year. It debuts at the Rotarail show in Fareham on 22nd April. Looking the other way towards the station Loco shed, dairy and mini viaduct Freidrichstrasse: Not too many pictures of 'Fred Street', but this picture shows the catenery starting to grow. Plus a couple of member's layouts Erwald - German N gauge Uberernst - German H0 US H0 narrow gauge Next year's open day will be on Sunday 29th October at the Milland Memorial hall. We already have one excellent guest layout attending - who will be familiar to a number on RMWeb - and I am looking for at least one other. If anyone is interesting in bringing their layout, even if it is work in progress, do let me know. It is an open day, not an exhibition. We also had our club biennial jaunt to the Cologne Model show. 6 of us made the trip by rail, with a two hour stop at Brussels for some beer, chocolates and chips! A great couple of days were to be had in the company of trains (real and model), beer and German food! Here are a couple of our number discussing the finer points of an ICE unit. Next year we will be out and about at a couple of shows. Titherleigh will be at Rotarail as mentioned. My layout, Kanjiyama, will be at the Abingdon club's show on 18th March, followed by the Crawley MRS show at Tanbridge school (Horsham) on 22 and 23 April. Anyone attending, do say hello. And finally. We are always on the look out for new members. If you are in the Liphook, Haslemere, Petersfield area (or even further afield, we have members from Waterlooville and Pulborough) and interested in a club whose members have many and varied interests, let me know. Wintonian
After about 9 years my website www.millandvalleyrailway.co.uk no longer carries current information on the Liphook & District Model Railway Club- they now have a website of their own. I am sure "Claude" will give you all the info shortly Best Wishes for the brave new world
RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted February 6, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 6, 2017 Indeed. The club has a new website, link below. http://www.liphookmrc.com We are also increasing our presence on social media - we have a Facebook account, and are even on Twitter! Is there no end to our embracing of modern technology!? Seriously though, as so many clubs are feeling the pinch, with reduced opportunities for accommodation and declining numbers, spreading the word and gathering interest will always be a challenge. A website is vital, even a relatively simple 'Brochureware' site such as this (updated as and when the need arises), whilst using Twitter, Facebook, forums and even written media such as local papers and community magazines as a more dynamic way to update on our activities.
