Sc59401
I quite like the comparison with Delboys' Reliant Robin Vehicle pedant mode on - Del Boy's van isn't a Reliant Robin, it's a 1966 Reliant Regal Supervan. The Reliant Robin wasn't introduced until 1973.

Bruciethefish
Apart from the ghastly front end, which looks like it's been designed by a child, using lego bricks... The rest of the thing looks like a 58 on steroids.. Once upon a time, engineers cared about how their brainchilds looked... perhaps they were deliberately going for a low-budjet sci-fi kinda feel? RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted November 14, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 14, 2009 The lads at Bristol Parkway have been playing with their new toy (suspect a tad of showing off to the audience as well!!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXrqH2nkd1U She may have looks on its mother could love but I am liking how they sound. RMweb Gold 46444 Posted November 14, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 14, 2009 Very nice bit of footage! Glad to see that one of the results of leasing the yard to FLHH was such a grand-stand view of events! Well I'm impressed! It's interesting seeing the 70 against a 66 for comparison. Looks good and a refreshing if not a interesting piece of design-or not as the case may be! Be good to hear the start up and some power applied. rob D2
Looks like it has a recaro rally car seat , so guess it'll be more comfy for the drivers. I wonder if a model will appear? RCAR6015
Re OZ70 Birmingham - Lawley Street to Basford Hall working Monday 16/11//009 appears to be hauled by 66546. I have just returned home to Solihull having journeyed to Sutton Coldfield. I viewed the working from a road named Shooters Hill Birmingham B72 the train passed northbound towards Walsall at approx 09.57 in pouring rain. Vanders
I wonder if a model will appear? Probably not as a decent 67 was never made and they are similar in numbers Dapol make a very nice 67. I don't know about those "other" scales though I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it but I could have sworn Hornby are doing a Class 70. Probably just one of those frothing wish lists, to be honest.
RCAR6015
I can imagine it being number 1 on Hornby's frothing wish list especially when Bachmann captured the class 66 market.
rob D2
Hi don't know about that really.if no one was interested in making a decent 67 in the most popular scale with it having at least four different liveries and wide geographical spread, will any of the big four fancy the 70 with one livery and as yet to be seen distribution, unless this monster willbe seen as a hook to get the younger generation into models. I agree with chris though that the livery appears to be trying tobreak up the angular lines and not suceeding, that new typeface looks a bit 'soft' applied to this thing.bit like painting a pink flower on the side of a rhino. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted November 16, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2009 A curiosity here is that the 70s are being moved from the factory at Erie, Pennsylvania to port on flat cars and not on their own wheels. The Class 66s are moved on their own wheels... I've seen pictures of early 66 deliveries on flatcars, I assume it's a choice about the shipping arrangements as the bogies were surrounded by a lifting frame of some sort. Might just be the ship they hired has a certain type of crane or hold stowage that requires that method.
multivac
They look really ugly (IMHO). What about special British requirements. Like is there anywhere to brew-up and put down your mug? Seriously though how good is the sound proofing and air-con in the cabs? Always a source of complaint with 66s. As for no walkway grabrails - British Health N' Safety rules or loading gauge problem? As for no walkway grabrails - British Health N' Safety rules or loading gauge problem? Presumably no 'walkway' handrails because it is not a walkway (and why should it be?). The area is clearly arranged like that to simplify maintenance access - something BR got right on the Class 58 (although it was admittedly because it was originally intended to also be aimed at an international market) but which then got forgotten in British usage on subsequent designs - including those imported from the USofA. Shedmaster
So, now the curiosity is getting at me.......slowly but surely..........after working out that it doesnt 'actually' weigh 135tons after all........... Can any of our FL friends please tell us, having seen pictures of this new cab design : What is the left hand computer screen for ? What is the right hand computer screen for ? What are the levers in front of the Driving position for ? ( i.e.....Reverser, Auto-Brake, Straight Air Brake, Throttle ? ) You could generally work this out before but these Class 70's seem to be a whole, new breed of animal....... Thats all for now, Many Thanks, Dave
