lonesome_whistle
Does anyone have any photos of the hut on the end of the up platform it was the original Aylesbury and Buckingham signal box then later a porters room and was there untill around fifteen years ago. David Is the building in question the one shown at 00:32 in this youtube video?
David Bigcheeseplant
Is the building in question the one shown at 00:32 in this youtube video? Yes thats the building. As I couldn't get to work due to the snow thought I would do some more work on the engine shed, so far the main walls are just lent together, although the lean-to and rear oil store have had more work put in including the glazing. I may detail the lean to out and add lighting at the will be right at the front of the layout, and I know more or less what was located in what place including locker stoves tables etc as my Dad worked there. David Bigcheeseplant
The photo is a blow up of the one above but I think the colour looks right although the mortar may need repointing! generally I feel quite pleased. David

dibateg
Excellent work Dave - those lintels are very convincing. There are a couple of shots in the Tony Newman book of the shed, just the classic front view from the platform and from the south side of the coaling stage, have you got views of those? Regards Tony

David Bigcheeseplant
I have done some more work today fitted the wooden boarding above the curved windows and the bottom half of the flat topped ones. I am not too sure how I am gonna do the roof yet but it will have quite a bit of detail. David
-missy-
Hello David That looking really good now. I think you have got the brickwork spot on. Enjoy the Christmas and New Year break. Missy
David Bigcheeseplant
A bit more work today, The slaters plasticard for the corrigated iron roof I am going to replace with Ambis product, that if I can locate some, I think you can get it in copper or aluminum. The camera can be cruel in these close ups but it does indicate where I need to tidy up my modelling. David
David Bigcheeseplant
The last couple of days I have built the trusses and smoke troughs, these I soldered up from copperclad strip, brass and wire and it is very strong, the smoke troughs are plasticard. David Bigcheeseplant
I sprayed the roof trusses black and popped a Hornby L1 in the shed to judge the effect, still plenty to do but its getting there. David
Bluebell Model Railway
Looks spot on and a nice model of what the Aylesbury shed looked like from the images ive seen in this thread and others i have seen around the web. Nice work.

David Bigcheeseplant
David: The engine shed is looking really great how easy was the Hornby L1 to convert to P4 The loco is OO straight out of the box, just waiting for a P4 chasis kit which is being worked on! RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted January 2, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 2, 2011 David: The engine shed is looking really great how easy was the Hornby L1 to convert to P4 Judging by the front bogie wheel treads, I'd say he hasn't converted it yet? Penlan
David, have you sorted your aluminium Corrugated Iron/Asbestos sheeting out yet? I have used the 34mm x 140mm sheets from Eastwell Iron Works and found them to be satisfactory. There's six sheets in a pack, I think you will need a few packs for the roof though Penlan PS - if you want a pack to test, I've one doing nothing (for about 15 years now!) you can have, PM me. David Bigcheeseplant
Spent some time putting the shed on the on the layout, and installing the brick sets on the shed floor, I used slaters 2mm slate which was the closest to what I think brick flooring should look like. The pillars supporting the roof trusses have also been added, and before anyone asks one does cross straight accross the window. The photos were taken by Kevin Wood. David Bigcheeseplant
It's been a while since I posted on this thread mainly because the shed build featured in the latest MRJ, but thought I would post pictures that were not used in the article. Also I have now found a photo of LMS mucky duck 43067 running with a GWR diagram U Crimson and cream autocoach at Aylesbury running to Calvert, aparently when no auto fitted loco was avalible then any loco was used including large parires and GWR moguls. Kenton
That photo is possibly the best one. It is a really impressive model and well done I have only one very tiny criticism - the extension wall on the left of the building could do with bringing down to earth. (photos and me can sometimes be overly critical)

(photos and me can sometimes be overly critical) The shed does need bedding in and a few more details adding although I needed to get things tidied up for the MRJ article so there are plenty of things still to finish. Hopefully with MRJ work and Railex now out of the way I can get back to some modelling. David
