Peter Kazmierczak
Maroon for me Clive, with a small yellow panel. And most of the Thousands were built at Crewe anyway.....
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted January 25, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 25, 2015 Very nice but rather sad all the same...... Absolutely and this layout inspired me to start a thread for mine. Thanks Alan, we look forward to seeing your new incarnation of the wonderful South Hams. Peter Kazmierczak
Yes, a cracking layout. That first picture of a Warship (above) is very realistic.

pwr
Great Pics Alan Are you going to show the demolition trains? Ripped up track bed etc? It would complete the picture - shades of the Somerset and Dorset! Paul R
Popular Post westerner
Some more hydraulics Bulldog on a pigeon special 6331 on the Exeter to Kingsbridge stopping at Wencombe at 14.55 And just for Rob a rather scruffy pannier on an up goods
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted January 26, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2015 I don't usually like them that scruffy but as it's yours I'll make an exception Alan.
westerner
Thanks Rob. I forgot to mention the pigeon train is kit built, a Chivers pigeon van and 2 kirk ex LNER (Gresley) full Brakes and Bulldog is a Silver Fox kit. On the Stopper the first coach is a Bachmann and the next two are Replica kits.

westerner
It has started, unfortunately the first cut is not quite deep enough. I shall have to build up the land around and the approach road by about 5mm. or lower the turntable.
sp1
The turntable looks great, but it's very sad to see 'Beechings axe' come to Wencombe Edited January 27, 2015 by sp1
RMweb Premium Jason T Posted January 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2015 I don't think I've commented in your thread befit but I have looked in on many occasions as the layout is full of atmosphere. I like the idea of a terminus (not surprisingly) as given the space a lot of us have available, they offer a lot of operating potential. I'm looking forward to watching it develop. Cheers, Jason
westerner
Thanks Jason and sp1 technically the "beeching axe" hasn't fallen on the line, but the layout will now model the end of the line at Kingsbridge Regis.
Ardmore
It's a shame the demolition men have moved in, but the turntable looks good, and I'm looking forward to seeing more photographs as the terminus take shape. David
westerner
I have decided to drop the turntable some 4mm. This requires it being moved back by 25mm to clear a bearer under the baseboard and the jigsawed out and struts put underneath with 4mm spaces before being re-screwed to the baseboard. Hopefully will do it tomorrow and I'll take some picks. Edited January 28, 2015 by westerner

RSLR
I believe the correct term is 'progress' - as can be seen they have jacked up the engine shed and moved it to one side while it awaits to be moved to another location, and they appear to be digging the foundations for a new turntable!I see no evidence of axing the line. RSLR
Would sinking the rails into the turntable deck help reduce the height?
Peter Kazmierczak
You could glue the rails directly to the floor of the Airfix/Dapol turntable - I've done that in the past and it worked. Still think it's also good to lower the turntable pit - looks much better than locos "climbing" onto the turntable.
westerner
Would sinking the rails into the turntable deck help reduce the height? No unfortunately as the deck of the turntable would be hitting the raised bit in the middle, and I'm not going to try and lower the whole of the circle.
rovex
I must say I like your approach to the mods, this way it allows you to continue to run trains (just like the real railway used to do it), rather than the nuclear option of clearing everything. Will watch developments with interest Dean
westerner
As promised, some more pix (not picks)of the turntable installation. First the hole was cut, as you can see I've had to move the turntable some 3-4 inches as I had forgotten there was a baseboard joint under where I was originally going to place it (1st red face) Then spacers were screwed to the underside of the piece that fell out, ie the bottom of the turntable well. Spacers were then added made of squares of 1mm plasticard. This assembly was then screwed back from underneath. However (2nd red face) I had over calculated how many spacers to be put in, there was almost some fruity language until I realised that if I put 3mm cork in the well and when the cork that I cut away when making my first mistake is replaced it all comes out level. The photo shows with some bits of 3mm cork under the turntable. In the background you can see part of the library that all modellers build up. Tomorrow hopefully the 3mm cark will be laid. Popular Post westerner
Cork laid this morning and weighted down. This afternoon some 6 hours later weights taken off and turntable and track roughly placed to see that everything lined up, nothing is permanently placed yet. Couldn't resist placing a loco on turntable in this case Dinmore Manor.
