Popular Post westerner
The evening is wearing on, and the time is approaching 8.00pm as the down Manchester express trundles non stop through Wencombe pulled by D820 Grenville. She came on at Bristol probably replacing a Peak. Grenville is a new loco to me, bought last weekend at the Hartlepool Exhibition where it was good to meet up Captain Kernow and team on Quai 87, as well as reacquainting with Graham Muz and a few others.
pwr
I can't make up my mind if Warships were better in green or maroon Paul R
westerner
Like you Paul I too cannot make up my mind and I do have a maroon one as well as 2 green, unfortunately by the time they were painted maroon, after corporate blue had been established there weren't many steam locos running on the WR, so I feel I can only run the maroon one when I'm in total hydraulic mode. Danemouth
Alan, Smashing pictures - can you tell me the source of the station platform lamps shown on the third picture please? Many thanks, Dave
Popular Post westerner
Dave they are Mikes models (I think, I bought them many years ago) Something out of the timetable sequence. The South Devon now with Head board and coach destination boards thanks to Sankey Scenics. I had a chat to him last week at Hartlepool to see if he did bespoke boards. He did, so I sent him the details of what I wanted based on his Torbay express boards and within 3 days was emailed the proofs. I OK'd them and sent of the money and they arrived on Sat am. just 6 days after the initial inquiry. Excellent service!!!!!!!!! And there are enough on there that if one makes a slight mistake one can cut out another one (which I will do for the head board, photos can be so cruel).

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted July 24, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2013 I converted a few of my layout photos like you and like yours they convey some character in them and remind me of the old Railway Modeller pictures before the advent of colour.Good work Al. Popular Post westerner
It is now 8.17 pm and the last local from Slapton arrives with a fruit D which will be left for the 21.05(ex Kingsbridge) parcels to pick up. After running round its train it detaches the Fruit D and pushes into the loop. By now its 8.37pm and the last train from Newton arrives behind 4571 with a 3 coach non corridor set. As soon as the prairie has stopped the Cl 117 DMU Kingsbridge to Exeter is signalled into the station.

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 26, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 26, 2013 Can you actually believe that we thought the Warships were exciting when they first appeared out of Mutley Tunnel at Plymouth in 1958? No, well neither can I, however they do have a certain 'class' in retrospect. P (ex 83D)
westerner
The Warships were something completely different, oh famous duck. OBTW thanks for the hint on Bowls. The driver of the Slapton local is Driver Bowles.
Popular Post westerner
Wencombe will soon settle down to sleep as the last 2 trains of the day arrive at about 9.25pm. First to arrive is the 21.05 (ex Kingsbridge) pulled by large prairie 5153 which will stop to pick up the Fruit D lest by the last Slapton train. Whist 5153 is picking up the Fruit D Mogul 7333 plods through with the down fish Bringing some empties for the local fishing fleet but some full to supply fish for the local fish and chip shops and hotels that supply the holiday makers. After picking up the Fruit D 5153 leaves for Newton Abbott and places North and East. Those in the know who missed the last up train to Newton and Exeter will have managed to get on The 3rd Brake at the back of the Parcels train. Some of you may have noticed that I managed to get the little camera into some new places. Ie on the up Platform for a couple of the shots.
westerner
Scouring through the old photos that Frank Drake had given me I found this one of his wife (Flossie) and sister (Millie) waiting for the train to go into Paignton for the day to some shopping and further along the Platform was Dr. Grenville waiting to go to Exeter. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted August 5, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 5, 2013 Whilst I was holidaying in the South Hams I thought of you Alan when I spotted a 'Tally Ho' coach on its journey between Totnes railway station and Kingsbridge.I'd love a model of one from the early days of that company. It would also be nice to see your characters catch a train to Brent.
Removed a/c
Don\'t know how this thread escaped me!! Just spent a few moments going back over and having a read. What a great layout, some stunning photos too. Looking forward to the next round of updates. Regards Scott
exmoordave
This fantastic layout continues to fascinate me - from the excellent modelling, the geographical setting for the line and the reason behind the running of each working. Long may this continue Alan - and don't forget details of the timetable, when you get a spare month or so!!! With best wishes exmoordave
cary hill
Scouring through the old photos that Frank Drake had given me I found this one of his wife (Flossie) and sister (Millie) waiting for the train to go into Paignton for the day to some shopping and further along the Platform was Dr. Grenville waiting to go to Exeter. Figures f2B&W.jpg Figures f3B&W.jpg I have a particular liking for "character" figures, as I think they add something extra to any layout. I was a little puzzled initially as to why Paignton was the shopping destination of choice rather than Torquay, until I remembered that "Woolies" is right next to the level crossing in Paignton and that Torquay Station is about a mile away from the shops in Fleet Street. westerner
Anoter of Frank's photos this time of the Winter family (James Winter is the manager of the Creamery waiting for the Slapton local for a day at the seaside. And this one of D820 Grenville was given to me by James himself taken from the dairy.
RMweb Gold The Great Bear Posted August 9, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 9, 2013 Alan, the photos of the 26th July I find particularly good, even by the high standards you routinely set, the first platform view and the one with the Prairie tank heading out especially. And when I get around to rolling stock on my layout, I am going to have remember this thread and find what you did to your Hornby Colletts, they look much better; some of it weathering but the handrails too. I need to check up on what Jules has been doing with his on Mayshill. All the best, Jon
