RMweb Gold Royal42 Posted June 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2021 couldn't sleep as I kept thinking about the dimensions of the water towers at Birmingham New Street, for a scratchbuild that I am undertaking. They were demolished in 1964/65 during the station rebuild and, therefore, I'm struggling to find the dimensions and shapes etc. Just spent the last two hours, 02:00 to 04:00 doing online searches, to no avail. g'night, Mike
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2021 Ah xxxxx the editor lost what I was typing.. A repeat of what I'd typed, Hmm a nasty smell, it wasn't me, A certain dog left the room.. Mooring Awl inner Temple Hare, 6 hours sleep so far not entirely successful... Very broken up, too hot in the bed, too cold on the bed. Spent some time playing with the FAY spreadsheet yesterday, I spotted an error, fixed that, then found several boats on the list, but excluded from the results, as they made weird outcomes, could now be included. Because of this several more listed boats were included, and then I added more. There are now 21 on the included list and one not. That one , The Thames A rater, is so extreme it skews the charts.. New typing from here.. Adding more is now a case of diminishing returns, as each is added little now changes to the projection line nor Blue Moons position on it. So unless I can find details of more local boats or of a very similar type of boat I'll stop there. Once the 3 Rivers Race is over I may start producing a separate spreadsheet of the results, though the difficulty there will be the one off boats mostly Broads cruisers, won't have their Vitals statistics available online. I'll chat to the race organisers to see if I can get computerised results from previous years sent to me. Though I doubt the first results few years of computers are still about, they were on a Commodore Pet.. A certain dog has now returned and is now back snoring in his pit. And for today, work, pick up 3 Rivers Race equipment, go via boat yard to find out the latest on our motor boat, home, collect my gear for the race, and put in landrover. Get food ready for the weekend and find cool bags to be loaded first thing tomorrow. But first.. Time for breakfast..
Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Yesterday did not start at all well. Gentle readers will have noticed that the inspiration which wells up so often and enables me to fill my posts on this thread with random thoughts was conspicuous by its absence. The act of catching up with the laundry did nothing to improve matters: indeed, by generating today’s ironing it may well have made things worse. Then I spotted a post asking for information about a photograph. Gosh, I thought, I think I might know this. My initial thoughts proved to be correct, which made me feel much better. Let us hope that the feeling lasts. At times I despair of members of the public and rest my head in my hands at the tosh which they utter. According to the lunchtime news, some folk in my part of the world are worried that the much-discussed East-West rail link will carry freight as well as passengers! What in heaven’s name could possibly be wrong with that? Would they rather that it all went by road? They are all BANANAs, I tell you – Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anyone. Having been distantly involved with the project through work over 20 years ago, my fear is that it will never be built because of all the bleating. Never mind, folks, the poor lambs will soon find other subjects for complaints. J S Bach, I don’t recall the Battlefield Band doing ‘Proud Mary’ but I’ve not seen them for a while. I’ve not seen anyone for a while, come to that, save the Hut People a couple of weeks ago. Neither of them plays the bagpipes. How I miss live music! Barring another Covid-related calamity I shall be back in Sidmouth in the first week in August, when anything can happen. I might even get tickets for one or more of the five concerts that were selling out rapidly while I was grappling with the cretin card, pass codes and other things. It costs nothing to dream. Best wishes to all, especially all the sick and missing. Chris 3

Jim S-W is building a very large l*yout of BNS and he may well be able to help. Worth a punt. In other news: Bear's day did not start well. Up at half five (WTF?), a No. 1 (TMI) and then into the conservatory to open the blinds, during which time Bear lost his balance slightly (trying to dodge all the kitchen cr@p and laundry drying racks) and instinctively reached out for "something" to grab to steady myself. That "something" turned out to be a sock drying rack - which didn't appreciate the experience; it protested by breaking - fortunately just one of the plastic chain links, so easily fixed. It's not the first time I've had to do that - the links have become very brittle with age. Then the fun really started..... Bear's lug'oles were suddenly filled with a very high pitched single-tone alarm sound - but where from? One of the new water leak alarms that arrived yesterday, two of which are now on duty in the kitchen (the 3rd was DOA and Bear is awaiting a response from the seller)? Nope..... Maybe the smoke alarm on the conservatory ceiling? It doesn't sound like a smoke alarm sound (and Bear isn't on fire), but maybe it's flipped out? So onto a chair to check. Nope.... Maybe it's next doors' new alarm system? So unlock and stick head outside back door to check. Nope..... "Alexa, stop". Nope..... Getting desperate now, and Bear wants his Sultana Bran..... Wireless Doorbell flipped out? Nope..... Switch off the mains to the TV, Stereo etc etc. Nope...... Bear knows it's inside the conservatory but is running out of ideas.... Bear is now down on all fours doin' a lug'ole check against various bags and boxes, trying to find the source of the sound. Found the box..... And found the sound...... In losing my balance briefly I must've brushed against a box, inside which was a load of kitchen bits - including a cooking timer. It was that.... Sorted Bear plans to crack on with kitchen work today - progress has been slow for several days so I want to resume meaningful progress, starting with the fitting of the door panel for the dishwasher. Then maybe the last remaining decorative end panel - which is a tall one and therefore bl00dy heavy. I hope to get it cut & planed to fit, but it'll then go back in it's box until after the worktops are fitted. There's one other similar tall panel that is partially fitted - that needs a bit cut off the top, but that needs thought to decide exactly where the cut should be made before doing so.
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted June 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2021 Editor cleared, does that mean thatvI have to jump over his or her desk, and what happens if I don't clear the editor and kick his or her head in the process. Enough of such nonsensical musings. Good moaning from a wet place after ladt nights storm. There doesn't appear to be any damage spart from a couple of minor leaks. We did get sone gardening done yesterday and the chickens were mucked out. I also got sone useful info about another small building on LGA, via a Facebook group. Soneone turns out to have brn a ju ior clerk for a coal metchant and has given me details of the cladding, colour and door layout. Considering the area was cleared in the late 60's thst's a result. As a result a carcass for said building has now been made. See not one mention of the R or M words. Anyway today some more minor tasks will be performed then it's off to the trainspotting branch of a DIY chain for a couple of hours putting the world to rights. Regards to all. Popular Post Andrew P
Yesterday went well, I produced another of my tutorial Videos, this time building unmentionable things in a large size and running some bits on metal. See Seven Mills Sidings for a look at Video No 94. In other new, I have a constant back, hip and knee ache due to the Osteoarthritis, but I seldom complain, I just exercise and take the tablets and live with it on a daily basis. But about 2 Months ago a NEW pain arrived in the spine, just above the waist. It only occurs when I stand up really strait, i.e. Stomach in, chest out and shoulders back, as one should anyway, and its like being hit with a large hammer in just one small area of the spine. Anyway, a call to my GP yesterday, (answered in 3 rings), Yes Mr Peters, I will get the Dr to ring you Friday AM as he is off today. So I'm hoping that maybe a course of Physio might do the trick, as it feels like a trapped nerve, if not, its another getting old pain that I will have to learn to live with, and smile at the same time. People in the street might think its wind. Have a good day one and all, stay safe and keep well. 1

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 4, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. No sign of the predicted rain this morning but Arthur Itis, and the sun disappearing from earlier this morning but before that the mackerel sky also indicated rain to come. 7 minutes ago, Andrew P said: In other new, I have a constant back, hip and knee ache due to the Osteoarthritis, but I seldom complain, I just exercise and take the tablets and live with it on a daily basis. I hate to worry you but that could be a kidney stone. The pain feels like a punch whereas Si Attica is more like being stabbed. I have both and at first thought the kidney stone was sciatica. Arthur Itis pain falls somewhere between the two. Just as well you are going to be tested 2 1 1

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 4, 2021 Good morning everyone It’s a little brighter than yesterday, but it’s not brilliant sunshine. No cellar work today, as I’ll shortly be heading off to the butchers for the weekly meat rations and hopefully a pastie for dinner. I’ll then head off to the Trafford Centre for a few more comestibles. Sheila, on the other hand, will be meeting up with some of her Zumba friends for a coffee, so once I’m back from the Trafford Centre, I’ll have the place to myself for the rest of the morning. I’ve no firm plans for anything, so I might just chill and do some reading. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings from a now soggy but surprisingly less humid boring borough. I managed to relocate my "office" to the patio for the past 2 days. Sadly not possible this morning as it is currently raining. One too many après work beers last night. Still mulling over the first job offer. My Spidey sense is tingling a bit so I'm really hoping the second position comes through. TFIF. The weekend is all planned out for me. Shops, garden centre, fit plant troughs to the wall between us and the schitty HMO next door, fix a tap in the bathroom, deep cleaning of the BBQs. No play time for me. Time to get on with my usual Friday meeting extravaganza. (fustercluck of idiots) Enjoy the day. 3
jonny777
Dry and sunny here in North Somerset. A few wispy clouds but mainly blue sky. I think I can just about make out the distant mountains (only seen on a few days each year) above the line of Tickenham Hill which is much closer. The trigonometry of this is prone to inaccuracy but with an angle of between 1 and 1.5 deg to the horizontal, it cuts out all high ground (because the nearby hills obscure them) except somewhere close to the Brecon Beacons which are 50 miles away. Hence they are a rare sight. Washing is on, and should dry quickly outside today.

Popular Post Pacific231G
Morning all Drizzling in W. London but I was woken by an inflamed tonsil early yesterday morning that got worse last night and kept me awake. It's been a lot better since breakfast and no temperature. I seem to get this occasionally (< once a year) but I'll do a lateral flow test later to be sure it's not the dreaded. Fortunately, I did the main work with the strimmer and mower when it was fine so vacuuming and tidying my "studio" today.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted June 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2021 Morning all. We are only a few miles east of PhilJW but it is pouring here. The new rose for the front of the house arrived this morning via DPD. The special soil and microorganisms to promote healthy roots are arriving later by a different courier. My task today is to remove the indoor Scalextric track so we can use the dining room table to dine tomorrow when MiL visits. Aditi said it can go back after the visitors have departed but I think it is quite warm enough to use the track in the garage now. Tony 20
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted June 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2021 Morning all, editor ahoy - again, so I told him/it to clear off. It's raining here and the Met Office forecast says it's raining here so it must be - anyway it's good for teh garden and the weeds are looking splendid asa. result while teh recently cleared areas of weed are also looking splendid. I see things are somewhat uppity-downity off the US Pacific north west coast with two magnitude 5.9 'quakes follwed by after shocks which are now down to magnitude 3.2 but no tsunami expected.. trust all living with quake range are having a good night despite a bit of interruption. I agree wholeheartedly with Chris's comments about East-West rail nimbys - no doubt they'll take one look at the massive fences erected alngside much of the revived Oxford - Bicester section and ask for some twice as high in their area. At this rate fences alongside reopened railways will cost more than the track. And an excellent lead from Chris regarding that photo he lighted upon. Elsw ewhetre on different subject I am deeply omn nto crrecting teh total ninsense posted by someone else - although the poster concerned has a habit of it I do wish he wouldn't post about stuff of which he knows absolutely nothing and makes it up as he goes along - all part of life's rich pageant of course but. such people can be very trying. no particular plans for today but gettinga newspaper might be a good idea if teh rain stops and we can venture out. Have a good day one and all and stay safe.
