Popular Post Simon G
Evening all, Just returned from a late evening food shopping trip. Mrs G came out of Moreasons with a load of reduced cakes, including some cream cakes, and as she doesn’t like cream, it was my duty to consume them! The fridge and freezer are both now completely full, as she found some reduced buns as well, which have gone into the freezer, and will be consumed over the next couple of weeks. In retrospect, I shouldn’t have put the bread machine today, then we wouldn’t have had to freeze all the buns! It has been very cold here along with a stiff northerly wind, making feel even colder. Rather than outside tasks, I have concentrated on the bedroom decoration today. I finished off a large can of white emulsion paint and started a new one, supposedly identical to the first one. On first evidence, it seems thinner and doesn’t cover as well, but maybe it will look better when fully dry. Grandchild still showing no signs of wanting to arrive yet. Now a week late, so may need to be induced in the next few days if nothing happens. 1
Popular Post laurenceb
On the subject of birth. We had a cow that looked like calving so she was put in the pen to await events, and we waited....And waited. After keeping her in for 36 hours we let her out. She set off for the futhest field but could only get about half way before she droped the flippin thing. 4
Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, NHN, sorry to hear about your friend, I missed your posting. Dave, I hope for a successful outcome for your dad. Day much as expected both weather wise and activity wise. Cold with snowy showers and a visit to work and completion of the vat return. Took Sydney for a short walk this afternoon as he was spending the afternoon at Mils. He’s met Levi the budgie and if Levi escapes from his cage when Syds about I think the living room is going to end up looking like a bomb site. On child minding duties tommow so I’ll bid you all a good night. Robert 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted April 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2021 The good news is that Dad's operation went well but his blood pressure is very low so he is being transfused and is under observation. The hospital, or rather the consultant anaesthetist who was looking after Dad, made sure that we were kept informed as to what was going on with two phone calls to us during the day and about an hour ago arranged a phone link so that we could talk to Dad briefly. The NHS at its best. Tomorrow I'll be taking some bits and pieces to the hospital for him, including his own phone, even though I can't actually go in to see him. Time now for a bit of eyelid inspection - didn't manage a lot last night. G'night all. Dave (AKA somewhat relieved of North Hipposhire) 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2021 (edited) Good evening everyone Well the weekends threatened snow finally arrived today, 5 minutes after I’d packed up I think I timed that rather well The snow continued on and off for the rest of the afternoon, thankfully they were only looking got showers and non stuck around longer than a few seconds. Anyway, back to the path removal, there’s not much more to do now, around 4ft is all that’s left to be dug up, but I won’t be sorry to see it go. Today has not just been digging up the old path though, I moved the sundial to a more prominent spot, one where it can be seen and read easier, but I did notice that the gnomon is at the wrong angle, so I’ll see if I can do something about that, possibly alter it to make it adjustable. Once I’d knocked off and got changed and as we were sat having a drink, Sheila said she had to laugh, as one of our neighbours was dressed in thick jumper and a woolly hat, whilst she put her washing out. Her husband was also wearing a big jumper and woolly hat as he painted their garden fence. Whilst I’d been out all day in just my old work boots, trousers and a shirt! After tea I completed the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix, for some reason the shelves were a little bare, not exactly empty, but I wasn’t able to get everything on the list. Dave. Pleased to read that your father’s op has gone well, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Edited April 6, 2021 by BSW01 22

Had my first vaccination today. Second dose is scheduled for April 27. The second dose schedule was accomplished in person after the required 15 minutes of observation for potential allergic reaction was completed. Oregon has vaccinated 31.5% of the population with at least one dose and 19.2% are fully vaccinated. All was very streamlined with one exception; once inside there was literally no waiting with streams of people coming in. The system was throttled by gridlock on the local city streets. I had planned to be 30 minutes early and despite perhaps 20 minutes of traffic delay, my shot was administered 2 minutes before my appointment time. The Oregon National Guard have been called up to assist and participated in the ID check staging.

In BC, laid-off staff from industries associated with tourism are being used for every job other than the actual administration of the vaccine shot in the vaccination centres. There were a lot of Air Canada staff (wearing their Air Canada ID badges) in the centre where we got our shots on Saturday. 13 6
Popular Post Ozexpatriate
While there is good progress on vaccination, seven-day rolling average daily case rates have increased by 50% in the last two weeks or so. (55% in 16 days). We are currently well above the peak daily new case rate of the 'second wave' in the early summer of 2020. (This is still around half the national average per-capita rates.) Some counties will be moved back into "high risk", meaning increased restrictions on things like indoor dining. 4

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all I was on Zoom again yesterday evening, this time "attending" a presentation on the railways of Cambridge. Goodness, I do miss the draughty church hall where the meeting would have been held were it not for that ruddy virus. One thing I do not miss is the strange people who seemingly cannot bring themselves to listen to the presenter. Instead, they chunter and burble to one another, quite oblivious to what is going on around them, or in front of them. In the past I have come precariously close to losing my rag completely with them and yelling "FFS belt up" or something equally pungent. At home, with only my laptop and screen for company, I can and do focus on the presentation. The secret weapon of the burblers and chunterers is now the Zoom chat button, which enables them to bore the pants off everyone with inane observations and less than pertinent questions. These reflections prompt me to wonder what will happen when I give a Zoom presentation next month. Best, I feel, to finish writing it. It will be all right on the night - won't it? Andrew C, some people have all the luck. A brief encounter with Katrina and her dogs is the stuff of dreams. Maybe she will perform at one of this year's Prides? It has been known. On YouTube is a clip of her on stage in Trafalgar Square in, I think, 2014. The relevant webshites have little to say so far about what is happening but these are early days and still troubled times. As of yesterday I have an agonising choice on one Saturday in July - Bristol Pride or the Scalefour Society AGM? Talk about a conflict of loyalties - for sixty seconds without deviation, hesitation or repetition perhaps. Continuing warm thoughts to Dave's Dad and Neil's friend and best wishes to all Chris 19 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted April 7, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 7, 2021 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, About 6 hours sleep but the first hour or more was very intermittent as the hail kept hitting the windows.. Several days of northerlies and now low air pressure means most of the broads are on flood alert and a few low lying areas are already soggy. Meanwhile in Great Yarmouth , in the gales they have been putting up.... A big wheel similar to the London Eye.. That must be fun, on the sea shore in those conditions.. Further up the coast where those houses went over the cliff, that made national news a couple of years ago, more houses lost large sections of garden over the weekend and are in danger themselves.. Back and forepaws were stiff and painful if they were moved.. Today they are stiffer but less painful.. In better news, a good day for those around here that support small yellow birds, not so much if you support a small dog.. Darwin and pheasants, just north of Effin Clown Town a female pheasant ran across the road, changed it's mind and ran back straight in front of the car.. 1 ex pheasant. Just South of Effin Clown Town a male pheasant ran across the road and took off into the cars headlights, it went over the car in a non self propelled flying condition.. 2 ex pheasants.. I think this may be the prelude to humans of the Darwin variety, when all the shops open next week in Effin Clown Town. We are due our second jab mid next month.. This weeks major equipment is going fairly well, it's on the tail end of it's overnight automatic piece of calibration, then it will be back to measuring resistance.. Time to.. wait..

There just happens to be a railway line at Ruffec. In the afternoon the electric chainsaw was put to good use and the self seeded trees at the back of the shed were removed. I now need to clear the ivy and cut up the remains for taking to the tip. This morning the ironing awaits. After that I'm not sure but no doubt orders will be posted in due course. Regards to all.
