I posted last week that one of our sons had been working north of the Arctic Circle, and that the temperature where he was had been down to minus 38C overnight. Talking to him since he came back, it turns out that was the ambient temperature. With the wind chill, it was “feels like” minus 57C! 1 6

I've been across there when off the road there was 4 feet of snow ... I’ve been across that road at night in those conditions, getting a lift with a courier on a 50mph schedule from Glasgow to Leeds. He was doing 80mph on stretches. Interesting trip! (This was in early 1968, and he was carrying computer tapes. It would all be done by a press of a button now.) 2 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2021 (edited) Evenin' each, Bakewell baking went er well and samples tested and passed muster.(by me) Delivered some next door and to Nicki & kids along with some other shopping we'd got for them. All received gratefully and have been told they are up to standard. Good oh. Stupid thing is that they nearly didn't get done because of non-delivery of grated almonds so we then went out and bought some elsewhere. Guess what? The Boss found a packet languishing in a cupboard when we got home. * Oh and "Miss Efficiency" only rearranged the cupboards the other day. Opened a bottle of Lathwaites French red tonight, a Grenache/Syrah combination which is pretty good. Mind you I've been buying wine from them for years and not had a duff one yet. *Guess who said that they thought we had some but was told I was talking rubbish! RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted February 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2021 Just spent an hour or so catching up with the last 36 hours of ERs as yesterday I felt rubbish. It seems that I'm one of the few that get a bad reaction to the AZ jab with aches, shivers, headaches etc. but today it's been wearing off. Better that than catching the plague though. Low spot of today was when I answered the phone and while I wasn't looking Horace the cat decided to wander over the computer keyboard then sit on it and delete what I'd been working on for the previous half hour. I don't know what he did exactly but I had to shut the machine down and restart it before I could get control of it again. I think I'm now off his Christmas card list for the names I called him. Cheers all. Dave 4

I know. But when we bought our model they weren’t. Some parts not available for our Liebherr like the veg/salad boxes have an identical replacement for a Miele fridge. If I want an upright white finish replacement for our Liebherr it will be a Miele. It will match the nearby freezer too. 9

On one hand, it is a way to show appreciation for the tremendous work frontline medical and nursing staff are/have been doing, but on the other hand it allows the clappers to feel smugly virtuous without actually doing anything about addressing the needs of those doing that front line work. But, to be very cynical, I suppose it is simply just too inconvenient to start up something like a daily “free parking for carers“ (or similar), that would actually benefit the people that are in the firing line. It’s much, much, more convenient, easy and visibly virtue signalling to go out onto the doorstep and clap for a few minutes and then return to the Xbox or Z-List celebrity TV programmes and do no more.... Forgive me for being so acerbic, but I have colleagues in the firing line who would love to have something more useful and enduring as recognition than a round of applause.... iD Agree! While I admire all doctors and nurses who tend to us in time of need especially during the ongoing pandemic, they will be the first to say they are only doing their job. Where does the clapping end? Do we clap the truck drivers who deliver the life saving vaccines, or the grocery staff who absorb our droplets daily. Certainly Capt. Tom did a wonderful job but would he be clapped if he were much younger? If it makes one feel good, go out and clap and also clap for those who protect and serve us all, day by day. The hood cost enough as it is ), and four new cordless phones for use around the house (delivery 3) - the keypads on the current phones are decidedly unresponsive which is kinda making their use difficult.....
