Didn't even know that rule even existed, which is weird if it's on private property. But then I understand why that rule exists after reading a little more. I could SORN but by the time I get the paperwork in my name, then SORN, then receive it back again, I'll be putting it back on the road But it seems as it's currently "in the process of being transferred to a new keeper by the DVLA" then I don't have to. Hopefully with covid postal delays, it'll take them a good week or two before the new V5 arrives with me. I wonder if there's a particular grace period (like there is with MOTs) for this. Good knowledge though! 3 1
Ian Abel
Moaning, just/still. Saturday evening started on our latest murder mystery, looks like it'll be interesting and much fun, also get the brain cells warmed up Sunday, not much accomplished really. Combination of "couldn't be arsed", "read the paper" and "walk the dog"! Today back working though still quiet on the Long Island front. -8 and cloudy heading for -2. Enjoy the day. 15

Such things appear to be extinct now, ever since the politicians/H&S brigade outlawed such dangerous items Bear just can't get on with water-based paint since it dries about a millisecond after being applied, meaning 'orrible dragging etc. (Bear likes to be able to brush until I'm happy with the finish, and water-based paint has a rule which says: "Though Shalt Not Go Back To The Bit You Did 60 Seconds Ago, Cos' You'll Regret It" - I have heard of a paint conditioner/retarder called Floetrol, but have no experience of it; the other downside of water-based paint is that it appears to chip if you so much as stare at it for more than 2 seconds I can also recommend Farrow and Ball paint. If you really want an oil based paint, go for their exterior grade paint. If you want white, go for 'All White' we use it here and it hasn't yellowed at all, it also has very low VOC's too. It's a bit more expensive than other brands, but we're very pleased with the quality. 14 1 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post petethemole Posted February 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 1, 2021 My google of cup bottoms produced this, Available from Amazon. My trip to Aldi for interesting beer drew a blank; they hadn't got any. But they did have some 330ml cans of own brand 'Twisted Tree' 6.8% vintage cider at 49p (=84.3p/pint), so I got a load of those. It's not bad for an own brand cider, made by Westons I believe. Had a call fom the GP surgery today offering a jab at 5pm tomorrow, so I booked it. It's not far from home. Stay elfy. Pete 20 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted February 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 1, 2021 Morning. Oops. Full day out, starting by taking Mrs NHN to the hospickle for her second Covid jab, at early doors o'clock. Then to HR (also in the Big City) with her proofs of driving licence, AIM, etc - although they already have these on file from previous job moves - what gives? Hridiots. Or job justifiers..... Then down to her pals place way down south, nice lunch out, shopping (aargh) etc as it is our first day out of 4 weeks lockdown here. 2c currently, 'feels like' Siberia. Windy but dry, but the wind chill consists of razorblades. Snowy slushy nastiness predicted for this evening, so hatches battened and log burner well alight now. A forum member (not an ER) has very kindly sent copies of some drawings of IOM Locomotives and boilers etc which he was left, interestingly dated 1923 and stamped as belonging to the LMS, Derby. Expert pal here wonders if they were punting for quotes from others than Beyer, Peacock for No. 16 'Mannin', built 1926, our newest steam locomotive. Food for thought. They're going to the museum in Port Erin, that expert pal helps run. 22 1 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 1, 2021 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I see we are all being urged to get tested for covid even without showing symptoms, all down to this South African variant apparently. Last time they offered tests here there was such a rush that their phone line was constantly busy. I was surprised to hear that Captain Tom visited Barbados just before Christmas. Even if it was deemed a safe place to visit it involved sitting in a cigar tube for 8 or 9 hours sharing the same recirculating air with a lot of other people is not a good idea in a pandemic. I visited Barbados over 40 years ago in November, had a great time but when I got home I got a very bad cold and back then I was less than a third of Captain Tom's age.

Now if that's not a divine sign I dunno what is.... Yellow Cake (or Yellowcake) is the name given in Australia and other nations to a powdered form of Uranium between the ore bring mined and made into nuclear fuel rods. Not something one would wish to ingest. I prefer lemon drizzle but also realise where I stand in the pecking order. Today has been uncomfortably cold. And damp. And quiet and boring. I was both surplus (officially “spare”) on the roster and then assigned to training a most disinterested and bored trainee. Ah well. I get paid the same and at least I have a job where I can work from work. Nephew is counting down the days in isolation. Former Neighbour (Upstairs) is also counting days as she has been pinged by Test & Trace for being in close contact with a positive-testee. She so far remains negative. That aside I can be thankful for breathing another day; a day not afforded to everyone. Stay well. 16

Not a normal occurrence, especially at this time of night, so I assume that someone had a serious operational requirement. We used to regularly lift stuff by Puma or even Chinook from Donnington to Brize to catch flights if the resupply was considered vital, but night training flights that need to land on, usually go into Shawbury and then on to the training fields at Nesscliffe, Tern Hill or Chetwynd. 16 1 4
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted February 1, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 1, 2021 I haven’t seen a helicopter over here for a while now. The police helicopter used to hover over the nearby fields. I did mention earlier that the Farrow and Ball isn’t harmful to furry noses. When Robbie stuck his nose in I think he soon realised it wasn’t a good idea. He got put outside quickly and had his face hosed to an accompaniment of “you stupid dog”. Normally he didn’t like his face hosed but he didn’t make a fuss at all. The same decorating season had got off to a good start too. I was working my way from one end of the lounge to the other with big dust sheets. I turned round and they were gone. Ronnie had dragged them out and made a big bed in the utility room. He looked very pleased with himself. He was actually a good dog, when I put the sheets down again I just said “no” and he left them alone. 8

I remain befuddled by the ONS who insist that 1 in 35 Londoners has the virus. NHS and various other Government figures suggest that across the 32 boroughs there are (approximately - because it varies daily) 18,000 current cases for a population of let's say 7.5 million allowing for some of the "regulars" like students and long-term overseas visitors to have gone elsewhere. If testing picks up only 25% (and they seem to suggest it is more like 70%) of actual cases that translates as having a population of 2.5 million. By my own rough figures that suggests something like 1 in 100 might actually be infected which is far closer to the national statistic. If testing picks up half the actual cases then it's more like 1 in 200. But then I am neither a statistician nor politician and call things not as the party or my paymaster wants me to see them but as I - being a humble citizen of planet Earth - see them. 9 2 1
