RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Good morning everyone Another day when I overslept, it’s becoming a bit of a habit! Anyway, breakfast is now but a distant memory as is the muggertea and the glass of juice. So it’s once again time to head downstairs and get that last bit of paint off the wall. I may have to resort to using a wire brush in a drill to get some of the bits off, but this does create a huge amount of dust, even when the wall has been sprayed with water first. But today should see the end of this task and tanking can start next week, which is yet another mile stone in the job passed. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian 18 1
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning, raining just now, but it seems we are surrounded by snow, off to the big village for SWMBO visit to the docs, so may find out. On the subject of fry up's(I think I may have mentioned this before), but beware the "full Scottish, Glasgow style" I got a big lump of Clootie dumpling in the middle of my beans(which looks and tastes like a nice slice of fruit cake), tasted fine, just looked out of place there on the plate. Take care all. 18 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Sorry to hear Kelly and her nearest and dearest have been having a tough time - its hard enough without all that to deal with. Hang in there. A welcome to Foden too, may your gears never crunch...... or are you a Foden steam truck ? Hopefully you don't go on to develop other symptoms. Rain reduced to a trickle here now, but it has failed to get very light so I don't think we're done yet. I really need to get a walk.....a lap around the village is of course the limit, I'm getting bored with that though. Still, as Kelly reminds us there is always folk very much worse off. 22 2
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Morning all, Welcome Foden (an s/n indicative of a place of residence or a past involvement perchance). It is of course raining (is there anywhere where that isn't the case in England this morning?). It's no doubt falling on the palace across the valley as well as not even umpteen ill-gotten millions and some very large carefully patrolled gates are likely to keep it at bay - nor the rumoured to be tooled-up 'security staff' on the site. Now to more important matters - yes - as Baz g as said - a proper job Welsh breakfast should include laverbread, ideally cooked in bacon fat according to the cognoscenti. And if FGW, and some others, are to be believed it should also come with Welsh Cakes at some time during the overall process of eating it but definitely not included with the fried/grilled part of the meal. Any English etc breakfast must definitely include tomatoes in some form or other and these should be cooked, not served uncooked. Fresh tomatoes should definitely be cooked as that improves their health benefits to the human body. That apart as far as I'm concerned hash browns truly are the invention of a foreign devil so definitely have no place in a proper Full English although the occasional potato cake is just about admissible as a substitute for fried bread. Eggs ideally fried (scrambled eggs generally are ok but in many establishments have been on a hot plate long enough to transform into rubber); bacon and black pudding and maybe a sausage as well or instead of the black pudding. I find that baked beans - used by many places simply to fill up the plate and make the meal look bigger - ruin many of the proper ingredients especially fried eggs so are best omitted. Mushrooms of coure should be included although I know they are not to everybody's taste. In the past there has been an occasional model railway exhibition - a small exhibition - at a village called Knowl Hill. which is on the Bath Road (A4) between Maidenhead and Twyford. A The major delight of attending this show was the presence in the village of an excellent café which seemed to have quirky opening hours but when it was open offered this, along with a large mug of tea, as the ideal way to start your day out - And with that tempting view I trust you will all have a good day and will stay safe 22 1 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 (edited) We had some new neighbours move in 3 doors away just before Christmas. They've just had what looked like a new sofa delivered. It seems that the accepted way to unload this item was for one "operative" to drag it to the rear of the lorry and then drop it onto the wet road whilst the other herbert stood back and watched! Edited January 14, 2021 by grandadbob somehow put bed instead of sofa. My brain hurts! 7 9

What goes in must come out, though I've not had that fun yet. This morning was "clean the bathroom" fun. Pah! Amazon invited me to have a free audio book to keep for life; it means signing up to their eight quid a month service (which is free for the first 30 days) - but you can cancel anytime. Download book, cancel service....job done. Now which book to choose.....decisions, decisions. I see the Orange One has made history; one book I saw was about him and was written by his niece...she's not a fan, to put it mildly Not that bouncy today - I was hoping to sort some more kitchen refurb tasks but the last main job involves cutting some ply strips for the doorframe, and that needs to be done in the garden. And it's hissing down. Double Pah! 6 1 1 10

Hopefully you don't go on to develop other symptoms. Thankyou all for the welcomes in! The username actually comes from the fact that my Grandfather, a major influence in my life, was an engineer at Foden trucks, and was part of the team for the design of many of their heavy goods vehicle models from the 50s, until he left the company (and Sandbach) in the late 80s to move to Leicestershire, where he worked for a showman modifying and maintaining many of the trucks he had a hand in the design of, as showmen had a strong preference for these British built trucks at this time. Me following him around like a shadow in the school holidays, I spent a lot of time in and around old Fodens, ERFs, etc, and had a photo taken in front of a Foden S10 where the ‘Foden’ badge was just above my head. I used this photo during a school ‘bring and show’ day explaining what I did during the holidays with my Grandad, and the nickname stuck ever since! He was a very proud man of what he achieved in his career, and he was a huge railway, and model railway enthusiast too, and as such an influence as he was to me, that unsurprisingly rubbed off on me also. So he was proud as could be when I later went on to become a mechanical engineer, and started my own business. It was his lifelong wish to get to drive a train, so when I’d arranged for this to happen at the GCR heritage line for his birthday, it went some way to repay a man who’d been a massive influence in my life. When he passed away there really was no other option for the hearse than to call in a few favours, and the old boy turned up in style in an ex military Foden recovery truck! 14 2

jonny777
Welcome Foden, this is a place where you can come and go as you please. I know I have done, with quite lengthy intervals between the comings and goings in my case. As a boy I had a soft spot for Fodens. I don't know why, I think it might have been because I had a few toy lorries which were Fodens. They just had a favourable radiator grille set-up. 16

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Hello again from Estuary-Land. And a special hello to Foden our newest member. I must admit though that my favourite lorries are AEC, just don't mention the 'L' word. 4 hours ago, iL Dottore said: As promised (albeit rather late in the discussion) a few of my books (I haven't included those in my model railway room/workshop). Top Down: Attic Office (partly shown) Spare Room: Library/Home Cinema There's a few "mini" bookshelves on either side of the window. The grey covered monolith is my HIWATT Amp and Cab Finally, the drawing room I've lost track of how many books I have. At last count well over 3000 - 4000 (and that was about 5 years ago) The only place without bookshelves are the master bedroom and the Waschkuche (the front cellar with washing machine, boiler etc.) I am planning on a library sort-through, although I hate getting rid of books (the last time I had a clear out - about 10 years ago - was when I got rid of all the Conan books, except the first and all the Dune books - again except for the first. But it hurt, it really hurt!) iD Is there such a thing as library envy? I didn't think so up until now. Mind you I tried to count how many books I had a few years ago but gave up when I reached 5,000. 2 hours ago, jamie92208 said: Flavio, i hope that your foundations are strong with all that weight. Jamie Indeed, books are HEAVY, in fact library floors come only second to machine shops when it comes to floor loading. I am fortunate in that my house has solid concrete floors so no problem there. Upstairs the bookcases are arranged around the walls and in one place above a dividing wall. Despite all the bookcases I still have books piled high on chairs, and I haven't even mentioned the fiction yet. 19

They only charged my £12 to sort it out - the benefit of having a regular garage and a regular mechanic. I am so pleased that I found them, and I would never go anywhere else. Afternoon All Not a lot to report, and genetic greetings are offered to all fellow ERS. Strange thing did happen, as the postman delivered a large(ish) bundle yesterday which included my Steam World, which had another copy stuck to it, which was for somebody fairly close by, so as I was going to the garage, I took it with me, and delivered it to his house, and he saw me outside and came to the door, where his response was "I know you from somewhere", and it turned out that he was a visitor at Green Ayre RIses and recongised me as one of the operators. Interesting little event. Regards to All Stewart 15
