Nice choice @grandadbob. I went for the 2008 earlier this year and haven't been disappointed with how it looks on the drive.  One day I hope to actually drive it. 

Seriously though, we did a haul up to Aberdeenshire in the summer and it was both economic and a pleasure to drive. 

And best of all you'll be able to fit an exhibition layout in the back!

I was under the impression that Peugeot stopped producing cars there when the 206 was discontinued.

Just checked, your right. still Brexit will not effect either supply or prices, of that I'm certain.

I'd buy another Peugeot tomorrow if I could afford an Auto with a low mileage.

 

I have to say, I have enjoyed every single mile I've driven in this one, and in my previous ones come to that.

I had three Peugeots, 205xs from 1994, 206 D turbo from 2004, 207sw from 2015.

 

Adored the first two and they seldom cost me much, which is why I kept them so long. I never really took to the 207, hence the arrival of Abbi the Yeti in 2018. Reckon she's another keeper but I'll quite possibly return  to the Peugeot fold one day.

I recall Husband & Wife team Dennis & Julia Bingham, who got a 2nd place in 1987 ( and I think almost won the race one year) - they were the subject of a BBC(?) documentary one year IIRC.  Jeez, that was 33 years ago......

I is here!  This morning, 9 minutes after receiving a phone telling me to expect a phone call I received .....wait for it..... a phone call.  It was THE phone call telling me to get on my bike into my Duster and hotwheel it to Epsom. The ##### ####### actually stands for motor vehicle and as a couple of you rightly surmised I've bought a new car.  1st prize for guessing I believe goes to Keith Tetsudo and runner up was Simon.  However I haven't bought a hybrid but have changed my diesel Duster for a petrol Peugeot.  I bought the Duster 31 months ago as a third choice after being let down on a couple of other vehicles after being quoted ridiculously long delivery waits.  It's not a bad car at all but is fairly basic and before I shuffle off this mortal coil I fancied something a lot better.  The dealers have been pestering me for a few weeks offering me upgrades etc so I decided to see what was available.  I was originally looking at a brand new car but spotted a one year old vehicle with only 1300 miles on the clock at what I think was a reasonable price.  After seeing and test driving it I couldn't believe my luck because it is to all effects brand new.  For the past year it's been used by the dealer's financial director's wife and spent most of its time sitting on their drive going nowhere.  They gave me a very good deal on the Duster saying "it's the best and "cleanest" one we've ever had back."

All this means that I now possess this:

It is by far and away the nicest car I've ever had (or driven) in 55 years but it will take me some time to learn how to "fly" it properly.   It's got what they call an "i-cockpit" and is all very complicated  although I'm sure that our resident airman would laugh at that.  After a few hours playing today I'm gradually finding my way around all the dials and menus.  Do I need all that kit?  - Nah probably not but as I said earlier at the beginning of this saga on Tuesday you only live once.  It's been a sh!t year  (nowhere near as bad for me as thousands of others) and I just want to have a bit of fun.

The only problem is of course that at the moment I really shouldn't be going very far and only for essential journeys but let's hope things improve somewhat in the next couple of months.  

 

Now celebrating with a Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cue GDB parking as far away from other cars as possible for fear of some nob bashing their doors into his; cue Mrs. GDB saying "Can't you park ANY further away from the shop??".  Cue some Nob parking right next to GDB, even though there's a hundred other empty spaces to choose from.....

Bear has done a bit more in the kitchen, though nothing very exciting (paint removal from plaster and existing pipework to allow the fitting of valves and stop-ends).  Still no call-backs from the two plasterers I've messaged (just an acknowledgement of my message would be nice for starters.  Cockwombles).  I'll message some more tomorrow

206 and 405 for me , and diesel to boot , twas fun when a 405 turbo got into

a run loop when  the tubo seals let the oil in to the inlet system , no way of

stopping it at max revs until it met it's fate with a big bang .

A murky December day here. Rather more than a fatchy pog and more like a seapooper. It's muffled the hoots of the local trains for our local crossing. I've barely been able to see 200 yards during the day. Still, it would be a waste to have too nice a day when you've got to work. Touching on my riddle earlier, I'm reminded of someone's signature phrase about a certain day of the week catching the railway out, despite occurring at regular and predictable intervals. For me, I ought to paraphrase that for Friday and past and current employers! I had planned a finish at a civilised hour, leisurely tea and quiet Friday evening. Hmmm... I haven't quite mastered the knack of sloping off early on a Friday yet. Even after over 20 years of trying. Must try harder. 

 

As I said, something of a mixed week. One parent is improving but the other has been diagnosed with Covid and the odds don't look too good. It looks suspiciously like we're heading for an unpleasantly eventful C********. B****r. 

 

Otherwise, act 57 of the great sort-out and tidy-up continues, with a pile of books and bits destined for a local charity shop (when it reopens) accumulating in the hall. Still, I can claim it's an anti-Bear/Hippo device to prevent direct access to the kitchen and the cake-tin... A couple of provisional exhibition invites for 2021 have bitten the dust this week, understandably the organiser/s have decided it's best not to proceed. I ran into an ex-regular customer on a trip out to 'exercise' the car, pure fluke but we had a (masked) chat for a few minutes and after exchanging Lone Ranger jokes, decided 2021 could be the year of open days rather than exhibitions. And even then, only in the second half of the year. That may not be 'a bad thing' though, some of my most memorable and enjoyable days out have been to smaller shows/open days. The lack of crowds meant you could spend serious time chatting with the modellers and demonstrators, exchanging ideas and information. 

 

Anyway, to quote Zebadee, time for bed. Night awl.

Just found this picture on my computer. Its actually a picture of a picture that I took at the same time as the one of the of the chairs I posted yesterday. It shows the ship, the M S Lofoten, moored next to the Queen Mary 2  80,000 tonnes displacement against 2,600.
