Evening all,

 

The rain has stopped and today hasn't been too bad at all although the river has managed to rise 8 inches in just under 24 hours and probably isn't done yet - but hardly serious and not too much to worry about for almost everyone living near it (which doesn't include us).   Time has been spent preparing the new, belated Christmas present from herself, 'smaller camera' ready for use - allegedly smaller (it is) and expected to be much simpler (it isn't) than its larger cousin I think I have now managed to press sufficient buttons and alter enough parameters to make it perform in a relatively simple fashion, time will tell.  But it definitely meets its portability target.

 

Talking of rain I hope the wet stuff falling in the eastern part of Aus does some good and doesn't just run off the hard ground.

 

Excitement is indeed rising in anticipation of tomorrow's expedition to the Principality.  Train and 'bus times have been noted ready for use - if I remember to take the piece of paper - and change has been accumulated to pay the bws fare.   I see the round ball kickers are off to Brum for the day and the oval ball lot aren't doing anything so getting around shouldn't be too bad.  I suspect the crowds are likely to be at Pontcanna Scout hut where this event seems to grow in popularity every year.  No need to look for a show guide of course and there will no doubt be the usual not inconsiderable attendance of people associated with RMweb including some from this little corner of urs although it will be odd sitting to drink my tea and consume my bacon roll without the usual excellent company of Chris F - sorry that you can't make it Chris and may the lurgi soon depart.

Ben the decisive Collie has decided it's OK for me to let him out for his evening patrol,  SWMBO is happy , one less interupption to her soap catching up time.

 

The evening BP was well down on yesterday and this morning. 

 

Much making like slartybartfast tonight,  and I'm pleased with the results though one hill maybe too big, major surgery may occur Next Week. 

 

Plans for tomorrow,  porch for the railway  shed,  start collecting up my lead supplies and see how much I've got.   Then time to get kilted it's the works Christmas party...

There's a stall in the covered market that has remaindered books, many on transport subjects so I'm going to see what he's got. Afterwards its up to Battlesbridge to the model railway emporium there. Good evening everyone

 

The weather has been bl00dy awful here today, rain for the most part and it only stoped a couple of hours ago. 

 

Sheila has asked me to say thank to all those who sent her good wishes. The op went well this morning, we arrived at hospital about 15 minutes early and she was first one into theatre, she thinks it was about 9 o’clock when the op commenced and we were on our way home just after 10 o’clock and home for half past. However, the op was more invasive than last time, as she was recently diagnosed with something called Fuchs Corneal Endothelial Dystrophy FCED for short, or as we say f*cked. This is a hardening if the cornea and will steadily get worse, but we don’t know how long or how bad it will get. It may eventually result in the need for corneal transplants, but they’re not 100% sure. She will have to be monitored regularly to see what the rate of change is and it is this factor that will decide whether transplants are the answer. This resulted in the procedure being done a different way and she had to have a couple of injections in her eye this time. But all went very well and they expect her to make a full recovery, but this will take about a week longer than before.

 

After dinner we sat on the sofa a caught up with a bit of the sleep we missed this morning.

Low tide on the lake. Most of the docks are beached which isn't very good for them. Air gets to the cedar flotation logs and they start to rot and lose buoyancy.

 

Lake Coeur d'Alene is a glacial lake but there is a dam on the Spokane River at Post Falls that's used for power generation and also to control the lake level for navigation in the Summer. The level is lowered in Winter to accommodate runoff from the mountains in Spring.

We would like to go to Paris for a railway show on Sunday, but the weather is threatening several inches of snow for tomorrow.

Newfoundland has so much that the snowplows are off the roads.

 

When I had my retina operation, the receptionist asked what I'd eaten (nothing). She said "Thank goodness. We've had a few in this morning that have, including one full English." (roughly)  I was operated on quite promptly. Then they sent me home without the followup inteview and meds.

This Paris is about 3/4 hour south of us, although an hour's drive from London. It was named because of a plaster deposit.

Good morning one and all, though one might well ask what is good about it.

 

Like the good boy that I try to be, I phoned the surgery at 4 pm yesterday as I had been told to do.  I was given completely different advice from last time about how to get an appointment with the minor illnesses nurse, the result being that I have been made to wait a week for nothing.  Impressed?  Absolutely not.  Furious?  Totally!  Fortunately the person who took my call had some gumption about them and involved the duty doctor.  She in turn phoned me at 5 pm having found me a vacant slot with the minor illnesses nurse at 5.30.  This defused what could have been an escalation of the matter and I got what I wanted, even if it took a week.  As I feared, it’s not just a headful of snot that I have but another virus as well.  It will go when it goes and I must be mindful of it when deciding where to go and what to do.  When I was in the grip of the virus last year I made some unwise journeys.

 

The frustration of not being at the Cardiff Small Show today is slightly mitigated by the prospect of chicken chasseur for lunch.  This sumptuous dish was a casualty of yesterday’s goings-on.  A can of macaroni pudding before I left for The Stables and a cheese and pickle roll when I got there amounted to a poor substitute.  Tonight Megson play The Place and I must try not to cough while they are performing.

Morning all. It's not light here yet but at least the street light outside is no longer signalling in Morse.  They came and mended it two days ago.  I got to Niort and came back with a goodly collection of M6 black japanned hardware.  This time I actually  managed to get enough nuts of the right size.  Some clown had put a load of M7 ( No awl I'm not talking about tank engines, honest) nuts in the same pick and mix box.  I had to sort through the box to get the M6 ones so ended up cross legged on the floor of the aisle sorting through them.  This caused some amusement  to passers by.   

 

Tea with the 'Bonks'' went very well and I managed to keep a straight face. They are a interesting  couple who have sailed round the world in their ocean going yacht amongst other things. Terry is a retired electrical engineer.  

 

Anyway breakfast needs to be eaten. Morning orders seem to be absent today so I will probably head for the shed.  The current batch of 3 shutters are now ready to be reinstalled so some tidying up is in prospect.  

 

Chris, hope the lurgi behaves.

A good nights sleep of  6.5 hours solid,  however I've woken with a big headache,  pink pills have been taken. 

Ben the I want out Collie prevented me from getting more sleep,  it's cold,  with clear skies out there. 

 

Yesterday at lunch time I nodded off,  and woke with one of those head jerks. Something went in my neck clicked,  and the painful neck I've had for months eased suddenly. This left just a feeling of bruising.  This morning no pain at all neck wise. 

 

Both California and Ostend are within 20miles of here.

 

Time to roll over and wait for the pink pills to take effect.

Mutt is here again so I am being muzzled to death for a walk.  Just this last crossword clue to crack then off we go.  The sports pages will have to wait.  At least it is bright and sunny if a touch breezy.

 

We live 15 miles from Quebec and it’s not that much further to No Place.

Phew! Glad to read that clarification! We are due back in France early Thursday!

Ended up having ribs for tea/dinner/evening meal.

 

Not something we have often and it was planned for tomorrow.  However, that does mean we are having a fry up this evening - woo!  Not too sure if a glass of wine would wash down well or whether I should stick to hot chocolate.

 

 

Turns out the HTA wagon guy "sent me the wrong box", which to be fair, I've done that once before too.  But 5 out of the 10 had some sort of fault, ranging from melted sides where the graffiti had gone on, to a weird switch that seemed to do nothing.

Our Dutch friend died yesterday. We've known her since she was twelve years old when we lived in Roermond and she used to babysit for us. Bereft about sums it up. Maybe back later.
