Having spent most of my working life in Asia I've not owned many cars myself. Details are:

1972 Austin 1300GT AKJ802K - bronze yellow

1974 Triumph 2.5 (converted from a PI) MGU593P - maroon

1999 Suzuki Wagon R+ - yellow

2005 Mercedes A-Class - Jupiter red (diesel)

2011 Mercedes B-Class - Jupiter red (diesel)

2014 Mercedes GLA-Class - Jupiter red (diesel)

2017 Mercedes CLA-Class - Jupiter red (petrol) - due to arrive at dealership on Friday, due to be collected next Wednesday

Had not intended changing cars this year but was beguiled by the young lady at the dealership into accepting what I think was a good deal so that I could exchange my diesel for a petrol version plus some additional safety features and other enhancements.

Had a 50cc Honda motorbike from 1968 - 1969 whilst living in Saigon. Had a period of buying Harley Davidson dealer t-shirts but never got on or rode one of their bikes.

Other than the odd vehicle that has passed through my hands very quickly, I can remember nearly all of them, bikes and cars.  And my Dad's cars....right back to AGR 64, a Fiat 600 from when I was a toddler.

But card details? Phone numbers?  No way!  I can't remember my name half the time.  Or what I was asked to do on my day off........

My new car has the reg NMN *** B, almost NHN on a dark evening with the light behind you.  Manx registrations are all MAN or have MN as the second and third letters, in the old style with a suffix.  There is no age link to a number here, most folk with MAN plates transfer them each time they change. I have several on the bikes with appropriate numbers.

Isn't whisky expensive?  Glad I don't like it.  I drink very little nowadays, it makes the arther-itis ache something wicked.  This hopefully averages out my navy days.  Oops.

A friend of mine does not drink at all these days but, as he says, he still has a high career average.

My AMC/Renault Alliance was the same metallic bronze. Yikes. Here too.  Not as bad as the yellow AMC Pacer my then neighbours had around the same time.

I don't think I could ever admit to owning a Pacer. But I never did so I don't have to.

That's a Renault 9 here, 11 was the hatchback version, haven't seen one for years.  Don't recall brown ones though!  Oddly I see BMW use a similar colour on some X series vehicles currently - I must be on trend.

The i30's black - safe colour.

I once inadvertently started my Escort with my front door key.

I'd have used a roll of bank notes.  ;)   :jester:

a table tennis ball with a split in it did the job on some cars....

Baz

I wouldn't have thought that would have impressed the escort, though.

What GDB can say I'll leave to  him, I am finding it difficult to compare with any other whisky, other than saying it's smooth and smokey, I can only suggest you find a bar with Highland Park and give it a try.

Never seen it sold anywhere, I'll just pop round to GDB's and knock some of his back, smokey the mind boggles !!!. :toclue:

I seem to have gone off whisky and whiskey this year since I had pneumonia. I did and probably still dislike anything smoky or peaty. My sense of smell is a bit deficient and for instance coffee, raw onions and gas leaks initially smell the same to me, until I am told which one it is and then my brain seems to register it. With whisky any peaty or smoky odours are very similar to rotting compost. Any recent whisky consumption has been with lemon and honey for medicinal purposes.

The AMC Pacer was the first automatic I drove. Hired one when I was visiting my cousin in Framingham, about 25 miles from Boston and since then have been hooked on automatics.

Got a picture of me and the Pacer somewhere, must find it!!

Much as I like Highland Park I forgot to mention that I much prefer cognac....

cheers!

Some of us are going to live in the cognac region.  Apparently some of our neighbours still have distilling licences.

Evening everyone

First job this morning was an emergency Sainsbury's Grand Prix, as we were running very low on one or two things. Once that was completed and all the shopping was put away, it was once again down to middle earth to carry on work on Max's train layout.

My first task was to fit a heat sink to the voltage regulator and give the CDUs another try, alas it made no difference, but I wasn't really expecting it too. So I carried on with the point motor wiring and fitted the final point motor. I also started to build a 24v PSU ready for when the final components arrive. I also put some paint onto the sides of the base boards, I've managed to get 2 sides done, I'll do the other 2 last thing tomorrow.

I don't drink whiskey or whisky, I blame all the cheap rubbish that I was given when I was young, although I don't mind a glass of Glenfiddic, which when I do drink it, is usually neat. My own preferrence is for tequila, usually taken with fresh orange juice, but occasionally neat.

Goodnight all.

CDUs? You only really need one per layout!

Morning all.  It being somewhat past 1am.  Oooh look - the pages numbers have reached Crompton territory :)

Been a strange old day.  SWMBO was home good and early having enjoyed a Trans-Atlantic tail wind.  By mid-morning she was flagging and by lunchtime was out for the count so Yours Truly was creeping about and performing acts of silent internet browsing whilst being ready to brew/make/mash tea; we "make" tea though I sometimes "put a brew on" but to each their own.  Managed to wake her for dinner following which she fell soundly asleep on the sofa.

It is now into the small (and very windy) hours and she is wide awake.  Ah the joys of jet-lag and flying the red-eye against a five-hour time loss.  I have never suffered from jet lag but have seen and lived with its effects on many others.  I put my good fortune down to two things.  I have worked shifts most of my life and can therefore adapt very quickly to changed time-zones and I always try to doze, and sleep if I can, right through flights except during meals and never watch the movies.  I do, from personal choice, use eye-shades and usually also have music playing softly in the headphones. It works for me.

I of course am also wide awake but don't expect that to last through to the morning.

Stay safe if your weather is wild.  I'll see you again soon.
