Stewart, re your comments about the folk traditionalists, I recently found a small pile of EFDSS magazines that we acquired when Mrs mole volunteered at Oxfam Music and read them so I can hopefully sell them. They date from  '64 to '68, and several articles, letters and editorials show that very attitude. They were also  very concerned about the correct form of 'traditional' dress for folk dancing.

Very much like some people who get worked up about the proper shade of red on an 8F.

There are two more "night in a caboose" places I know.

Red Caboose motel in Strasburg, Pa. (Strasburg RR, RR Museum of Pa, other small shops, Train Collectors Assn.)

A campground on I95 near Charleston, SC. has a caboose and another car for those with no camping gear.

Morning All,

It is a nice bright morning in this part of the world.

Yesterday's testing didn't happen eventually - the software wasn't ready.  I guess we'll have to see how things pan out today.  However, I will be leaving work relatively early to take some documents to the Ford garage.  If all goes well, I should be able to pick up my new (to me) car tomorrow!

Have a good day everyone...

Good morning one and all and many happy returns to Andyram

Goodness, it takes ages to catch up after time away.  The first of many lots of dhobi has been done and awaits the iron.  Once the car was close to the house, and from 7 pm on Saturday when I returned from Wells to late Sunday it was not, it could be unloaded.  It will be no surprise that I do not faff around folding and packing the tent before departing the campsite.  Instead I stuff it in the back of the car so that it may dry on the way home.  By this trickery I can be ready to leave the campsite an hour and a quarter after regaining consciousness.  The inner part will need its bottom cleaning before all is stowed away.

Amid the tasks of reinsuring the car and booking its annual inspection we have Area Group on Wednesday.  This time we are to meet at the home of a member who has a garden railway, which will be a pleasant change.  The dreary round of fodder runs resumes today too.  I wonder which aisles have been moved in the supermarket while I have been away.  One nice thing in my absence was receiving three remittances from Ernie.  Another was notification of a modest tax rebate. These will help to pay for the car insurance, which is hardly likely to be cheap given the encounter with that blasted deer back in January.

Best wishes to all in distress and recovery

Chris

Morning All

Happy birthday Andy.

Had to skip a few pages due to not having enough time to backread.  Managed to get some read and rated, and as usual, generic greetings are on offer from here.

Had a disturbed night due to incessant rain, which luckily has now passed over a bit.

Another session at Oxfam today sorting and pricing.

Back later/tomorrow.

Regards to All

Stewart

Morning Awl, Inner Temple Here.

A good nights sleep was had of around 6.5 hours, mostly because of some pain killers taken first.

Yesterdays work didn't go to plan because they didn't release the equipment to me, So I calibrated a dozen current shunts, at this time of year they are over the seasonal hump and their value starts reducing. The graphs show a sine wave which is at it's peak mid summer and it's low mid winter. This is on top of their general decrease or increase in value as they age. We think It's because of the average humidity changing through the year.  The Boss wishes we had had a special set made for this particular use with hermetically sealed resistors.

They are promising me they will give me the major system to calibrate this morning.

I got some Big washers to adjust the new gate with and that has been successful, or it will be when I've finished the job. The other washers turned out to have the wrong inside diameter I needed 12mm not 10mm ( I hope it's not half inch they are much harder to find these days...)

Just had a company email of another Safety Lecture to Attend, Asbestos awareness, With SWMBOs Brother being A licenced Asbestos removal supervisor I think I can safely miss that one.

I ment to mention that at the weekend while travelling to the MRC open day I came across the Peleton of some cycling event, they seemed most put out as my Landrover with bull bar came along the two way road towards them, (two way for cars  if one is a lorry someone has to stop and hug the bank). Behind the peleton was a long line of cyclists looking ever more distressed the further back they were, but at leat they were on their side of the road.

There are a couple of big cycling events coming up tour de Broads and tour de Norfolk I suspect some are practicing. I will send a email of complaint shortly.... about The main web site which  claims the Broads is a National park which it isn't...it's better than that..

Time Too  Go see if they've released the system..

Similarly in downtown Indianapolis the Crowne Plaza at Union Station has Pullman car rooms.

They are extensively modified inside to be hotel rooms, but fun all the same. I stayed in one back in the early 1990s. They seem to be still there.

We stayed in that hotel last Summer although it was a normal room as I hadn't realised you could stay in the Pullman cars till we got there gone midnight off the Hoosier State from Chicago. Very nice hotel which warns you about then pose of passing trains as he rooms are within the old trianshed. All we heard were slight rumbles but not to enough to wake us.

Ian A - Nigel poking loco although my modelling period is early sixties so not on my list to get. I have yet to buy a loco with the TTS sound. I did however buy a Surroundtraxx Econami UK diesel sound decoder for my Dapol bubble car. Not bad although the consensus amongst our operating team on a Saturday was that the DMU horn is a little to quick.

Morning all from another sunny day. Work day 2 and back on a fairly quiet trian to LBG. We took the bus home last night after a few pints in Croydon which helped me get to sleep quickly but awoke at 02.30 so now feel tired.

Just a couple of observations that crossed my mind and which I thought I'd share.

First, how much better Radio 2 is at present with virtually all of the "personalities" on holiday and the B team instead.

Second, why is it that I got just about as excited that our local Co-op was selling half price Anusol as I would have been ten years ago about cheap beer?

Good morning Folks.

Stunning sunny day here in Newport. Major dog-walking exercise after brekkie, Yesterday is just written off (rain). We 'allegedly' have a delivery of floorboards, but sometime between 1 and 6pm. That's my afternoon, then! I'm sure Mrs Smith has a job or 4 to help my time along..

I think everyone deserves a sunny day. It lightens the mood, and helps to keep a certain degree of perspective.

Have a great day, everybody.

Ian.

Good morning all,

Many happy returns Andy.

The sun has made an appearance but it seems the weather will be changeable today with a cloud, showers, sunny spells and even thunder possible later.

Nicki & Co returned safely from Spain yesterday so we expect to see them in the next day or two.

More good news from the hospital is that Steve went to visit Steve and he is definitely improving although still wired up but was able to chat for about 20 minutes before dozing off.

No firm plans made for today even though The Boss is on holiday from work this week.

H & S Alert. I may, repeat may, be constructing a shelf today. This will involve the use of manual & power tools with sharp edges and pointy bits. Firstly though I need to check the first aid box.

Have a safe one,
Bob.

Good moaning all from the boring borough.

Happy Birthday Andy.

Another round of physio yesterday. Still no improvement so one more session next week and if no improvement then, a referral to a specialist. Likely outcome is surgery.

A great train hotel is the Izaak Walton in NW Montana. Originally built as staff accommodation. There are also 4 (now 6) cabeese that can be rented along with an FP45 loco that has been converted into a luxury suite. They are also expanding with a group of nearby cabins.

post-2818-0-62496700-1502782047_thumb.jpg

We've stayed there a few times now, the most recent was this past June. If you get a trackside room you can literally lie in bed and look out the window at the BNSF mainline.

That's about all from me. Off for some more pain killers and to try and get some work done for my very patient employer.

Morning all. Many thanks for the birthday wishes. I think it is safe to say that it has been a mixed start. Not a great night's sleep after Amber joined us in bed and her tossing and turning did not help us rest. She had come in quite apologetic after being packed off to bed in disgrace last night following a massive "teenage strop" (which is not bad for a five year old!!)

This morning we awoke to find cat number 1 had decided to have another upset stomach display in the litter tray and in various parts of the kitchen. This has been happening on and off for a few days now, and Sarah traces it back to a change of food caused by Tesco sending the wrong box in last week's shopping. It had also affected the new cat too. Hopefully they will bring the correct food today otherwise I will be straight over to our local Asda to pick some up.

I have been fortunate in the old gift department today. The contents of the Trackshack package has been revealed as the Bachmann fishing boat - perfect for the long term quayside layout project which is currently at the bare baseboard and track stage. My parents have also contributed to the project with the gift of a pair of Bachmann quayside walls.

I am not sure if Sarah is trying to tell me something though - she has also marked the day with a gift of four bottles of Theakston's Old Peculiar - is this just a case of knowing it is one of my favourite beers - or a hidden message?

The sun is shining - and once the shopping has arrived and the Avon delivered to the church coffee morning we plan to go to the GC in order to have one of their All Day Breakfasts. Then tonight I am off to the Derby match where the highlight will probably be the prematch beers with friends and family.

Have a good day all.

Waterloo seems to be a no go zone with a unit off the road.  Suggestions that it collided with one of the vehicles for the engineering work.  Three more platforms lost as a result.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40933704

It looks as if the 456 set off from a platform, presumably No 11, and turned left instead of going straight on before going into the side of an engineering train. There will obviously be a lot of questions to answer but it seems that no one was seriously hurt which is a bonus.

Morning all from a sunny Hill.

Main line side of Waterloo just about at a standstill.  SWT begging passengers across their region to avoid all travel to or from London and advising to expect severe disruption all day.  Official version is a points problem outside Waterloo.  Multiple reports have reached here of an early morning train striking a ballast wagon and derailing at low speed with no injuries.

The "Windsor" side is relatively unaffected as those trains are using the former Eurostar terminal which is almost independent of all other tracks.  However "Severe disruption" is still shown.  Currently there is a SWT van parked outside Strawberry Hill station having been driven by a smart-looking chap in a suit.  "Suit" is advising everyone to "Go home - there are no trains running" despite the fact that they very clearly are running and are more or less to time.  Suit is looking and sounding less useful than a hole in a bucket and is being ridiculed by a number of regular commuters.  The franchise ends this week.  Perhaps the new incumbent will be able to organise a celebratory visit to an alcohol-producing establishment.

Best wishes to all.  Happy Cheeseday.

Morning all,

Happy birthday Andyram - enjoy!

Awkward little job at Waterloo and from the pics it does indeed look as if the emu hit the ballast train which implies one or the other was not where it was supposed to be - but beyond that all is down investigation.  In the meanwhile we have some sunshine which will allegedly last, off & on, for most of the day.  No orders received as yet and I did the vacuum cleaning yesterday so that's one off the list.

Enjoy your day.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Happy birthday Andy and many more of them. Weather as reported by GDB and I'll be doing a bit of DIY myself today, making the shelves for the shed. I'll have to set the workmate up on the patio as the utility room is crammed with the contents of said shed, fingers crossed that there is enough space in the shed for it all. Bye for now, be back later.
