I have a trip to Carlisle on Saturday eldest daughter has an interview at 10 on Saturday morning so that is at latest a 6 am start, any recommendations anyone?

Trip down to Settle and back? Not the same as behind a loco, but still pretty scenic.

I am exhausted this evening! Still, the little guy had a great time - there was a short Church service, followed by an introduction by the headmistress and then he was allocated his class - and they all went off for three quarters of an hour or so. That was it for the first day, and then we went off to lunch before an appointment at the photographers to have a portrait done in the afternoon.

It was somewhat strange spending the best part of the day all together - but everyone seemed to enjoy it, which was the main thing!

I think I will be opening a couple of beers tonight! :)

E-mails going the rounds - these are slightly too close for comfort! :

Thats when the fight started!

One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot

as a Christmas gift. The next year, he didn't buy her a gift.

When she asked him why, he

replied, "Well, you still

haven't used the gift I bought you last

year!"

And that's how

the fight started...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I asked my wife, 'Where do you want to go for our anniversary?'

It warmed my heart to see her face melt in sweet appreciation.

'Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!' she said.

So I suggested, 'How

about the kitchen?'

And that's when the fight

started...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said,

'Do you want to have $sx?'

'No,' she answered. I then said,

Is that your final answer?' She didn't even look at me this time,

simply saying

'Yes.'

So I said,'Then

I'd like to phone a friend.'

And that's when the fight

started...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I took my wife to a restaurant.

The waiter, for some reason,

took my order first. 'I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.'

He said, Aren't you worried about the mad cow?' 'Nah, she can order for herself.'

And that's

when the fight started...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping the channels. She asked,

'What's on TV?' I said,

'Dust.'

And then the fight

started...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary. She said,

'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3

seconds.'

I bought her a scale.

And then the

fight started...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and she kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table. I asked her,

'Do you know him?'

'Yes,' she sighed,

'He's my old boyfriend... I understand he took to drinking right after we split

up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn't been sober since.'

'My God!' I said,

'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?'

And then the fight

started...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I rear-ended a car this morning.

So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it...

he was a DWARF!!! He stormed

over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!' So, I looked down at him and said,

'Well, then which one are

you?'

And then the

fight started...

Michael, thanks for the information concerning the black beauty, I think I know what I'll be doing on Saturday afternoon. Last Saturday, I was privileged to see 6201 tearing it up through Lazonby, so I'll need to find a good spot to watch 6233 pass. I think there can be no more appropriately named place than the Eden Valley, it's truly one of the most beautiful spots on the entire planet - and I do mean that!

To see a big steam locomotive passing there on a bright afternoon in late summer is one of the finest experiences it's possible to have.

If there's a heaven and they have trains there - this is close as you'll get to it in this life! :)

Morning All,

The rain has stopped and I guess we have around 3-4 Oktas here.

I'm back in the office today - and it looks like there is quite a lot to do!

Have a good day everyone...

Morning all!

Doing another early one (wonder if I can make it 5 in a row?) as I want to get away from work early and listen to the cricket! I have a sneaking suspicion someone's put an afternoon meeting in my calendar though. Might need to escape straight after it! Right, tea, cereal, work...

Good heavens :ohmyclear:

What happens when an ICE comes into contact with a dustcart.

Apparently, the dustcart had slipped off the road and came to rest beside the track. Thankfully only 15 people were injured, so it could have been a lot worse.

Yes, indeed... Not a good day for the railways yesterday, what with the accident in Suffolk.

Then there also was a news report about a sleeper train from Spain which was to be split at Lyon, with one section going to Switzerland and the other to Italy. However, the two sections were mixed up, so the one destined for Switzerland went to Italy and vice-versa. The mistake was noticed only when the trains arrived at Geneva and the Italian border respectively.

Morning.

Wife is up early over the following few days as the County Show is on in sunny Haverfordwest West Wales. If anyone on here is in wales, my wife will be on S4C either tonight or tomorrow night. She is a hairdresser and one of the clients is being followed by a camera crew as she gets ready for the show.

Don't forget that our own 87 029's model shop, C&M models, near the former main Post Office, and with a half way decent chip shop round the corner is also a recommended visit. On a non railway theme, Carlisle is a good shopping centre, albeit that the usual suspects are to be found. There's also a bakers (name escapes me, but they've got about six branches) that makes very unusual meat and potato pies, with minced beef on one side, and mashed potato on the other, and encased in a Scottish style water pastry, and looking like a Scotch pie - they're delicious and worth tracking down. One branch is a tiny shop opposite the back of Waterstone's bookshop.

Seven oktas here today, but not leaking.

Happy hump day.

Morning all I need tea today and a kitten that leaves Matt's tarantula alone. The trip to carlisle has thrown up an anomaly the RAC want to send me from Chesterfield via the A1 and the AA across the pennines and up the M6. The two new tyres required will put an end to any shopping unfortunately but the pies sound interesting, Mrs B likes the idea of a detour through Blackpool on the way back that should just make it a nice 400 mile drive.

Mick, knowing Brirish roads, of old, I reckon that whatever way you go, you'll wish you'd gone the other. Whichever you choose, you will wind up on the M6 somewhere, unless the RAC is suggesting the A1 to Scotch Corner, then over the A66 to Penrith - not the greatest road in the world.

Blackpool makes an interesting detour, but will be busy in summer, and also can provide you with traffic problems of its own, and in summer the section of the M6 round Preston can be very busy, as it carries the traffic to/from the M61 as well, and also the traffic to/from the Lakes, so of you can avoid that stretch you might do yourself a favour.

I think Stuart's shop is Cranstons, the local deli specialist. Also if you have some change, a couple of doors down is Pioneer Foods. Get yourself some Cumberland sausage there. It is truly superb, as is the tomato sausage! I'll be out with the dog until about 11:30, but if you're at 87029's shop about 12, I might see you there Mick!

Thanks for the helpful suggestions but we are at the mercy of the interviewers/organisers as Becky has a hearing problem we will have to listen to the verbals to make sure she has all the details later. It is likely that there will be a tour of accomodation and facilities first followed by a short interview and portfolio perusal but it could all be over by 12 or 2pm.
