The "World Foods" aisle in our Tesco is quite interesting. It doesn't contain the Irish, Italian or American foods though, they are elsewhere. There are Caribbean, African (with what seem to be foods from both North and Equatorial Africa),South Asian, SE Asian and Polish brands. The British versions of Indian and Chinese foods are elsewhere. Kosher and Halal products are in the same aisle but on opposite sides. Go a few miles further east into Southend and the supermarkets have a very small selection of such products.

Never seen an eel in Tesco!

Plenty of Polish Pickled Peppers, I bet.

All the British stuff at my local "Stop 'n' Shop" are in the Irish section............ I usually only buy Branston, Piccalilly (when in stock), Cream of Tomato soup (now being made by Heinz in the USA) and Maltesers (mostly written in Arabic).

Best, Pete.

Morning all, slept today until I woke up 10.30 a sunny day outside. I was a bit shocked to get a text from herself to say that the Doctor was signing her off as fit to leave! It would appear that the medics are happy to leave the decision on when she comes home to the OTs. My blood pressure peaked as I looked at the kitchen sink.......

Ah, 'multi-disciplinary discharge'.  That resulted in me being discharged after my hip surgery too soon, as the individual (not a Dr) concerned hadn't read the top bit of my notes with my address on....and the fact I had to fly to get home and had a one hour car journey at each end.

Aircraft seat spacing+hip surgery=agony.  This probably put my recovery back weeks, as I had to exceed the allowed angle of movement to get loaded into my seat. /rant.

Heinz Tomato Ketchup in squeezy bottles is like water! Remember the telly advert where a bottle was placed pointing over the roof of a skyscraper and the person had time to go all the way down the stairs (how many flights?) and put the hot dog under the drip?

I bought some Wasabe peanuts the other day, fancying a change. Never again. If that's what the Japanese like it's no wonder their suicide rate is so high.

Sounds like you'd be just the bloke for wasabe ice cream Ed - incredible stuff, the ultimate sweet and arggh!

BTW too much mention of Tesco on here - obviously subliminal as we went there instead of the correct Friday shop.  I am informed that due to special offers, multibuys, and coupons we saved almost £100 - as I have pointed out previously we would have saved even more if we hadn't gone shopping (however I did apply the same method when visiting the Modelzone sale and was duly complimented by the domestic management.

Aarrghh.

I must have unlucky written across my forehead.

We are still having major work done the house. I finally managed to get an appointment to see the specialist my GP referred me to but bang in the middle of Mrs BoD's time off work. Therefore we decided not to take a holiday this time round.

Just last night we decided that we could do with some sort of break and so looked at a few days at a hotel somewhere north of the border - our favourite places and kin are all up there.

This morning I managed to book a few days away. It's not the best timing and not what we would have ideally wanted but as I had to work around the hospital appointment it would do.

Thirty minutes after I booked, the postman arrived with a letter cancelling the appointment.

Extra Brownie points popped into the local bank to arrange transfer of funds. Passed the village bakery a noticed they were selling Bannofee Muffins a favourite of Marion. It may be foreign inspired for all I know but I do like a good english bakery. Found particularly good ones in Heathfield (Sussex), Yarmouth (right by the ferry queue) and Freshwater.

Temperature's nearing 38°C again, so I am again finding myself welcoming any t-storms which might develop! I also just read that the series of road surfaces bursting due to the heat has continued, which of course can be particularly dangerous on the autobahn.

I'm afraid to say I've just sent 1L40 wrong line from Wantage Road to Foxhall Junction.

Fortunately I'm playing SimSigs SwinDid (Swindon / Didcot) signalling simulator.

Temperature rising rapidly here too.

20c and blowing a hoolie here, at least it's sunny now.

Theraping completed for another week, draft annual report back from the CEO with only minor adjustments to make, and I'm off tramadol - think I'll have a curry and some beers to celebrate! Yay!

Mind is now engaged on trains not work for two whole days, honey-do jobs permitting.

No problem, just shove the Down trains down the Up Main, adds a bit of spice to life.

Careful Beast, you'll have Adrian Vaughan on your case if you keep that malarkey up...!

There's a documentary on the great train robbery on the goggle box tonight, ITV3 9pm.... most likely a repeat I think. Next week will be the fiftieth anniversary (for want of a better word). Looking at footage of the period it seems like a very different world...
