13?  Not  sure how these things get categorised but "storm" Joyce was reported as having sustained winds of 40mph.

The 13 are named "tropical" storms originating at low latitudes.  There is a system with predetermined names. They use the Saffir-Simpson scale for categories.

38 mph is a "tropical depression". A hurricane needs sustained winds of 75 mph. Sustained winds of 39-74 mph are a "tropical storm".

Naming storms was "Invented" in Queensland - sort of.

Quote

Credit for the first usage of personal names for weather systems is generally given to Queensland Government meteorologist Clement Wragge, who named systems between 1887 and 1907.

I don't know how far back naming high latitude storms in Europe goes. I have no comprehension of it. We don't do it here. Wikipedia suggests it started in 2013. Wikipedia suggests that the "Western Group" (UK, Eire and the Netherlands) have their own separate naming system.

No idea what the 'yellow', 'amber', 'red' stuff is. We don't do that here either.

They always are. Did she mention "spaghetti models" or the "forecast cone of uncertainty"? 😉

All you need is a Sharpie - that will remove all the uncertainty!

Still very firmly in bed but no longer requiring the daily attendance of ambulance crews.

Update

I ventured downstairs today for the first time since Thursday morning.

Solids have been eaten. A smaller-than-usual dinner was carefully enjoyed, plus tinned peach slices and custard after. That’s much more than I have eaten for around a week.

Tomorrow is the 29th anniversary of our union. We shall not be celebrating - just yet.

And I finally got to hear of Dr SWMBO’s little party at the palace on Thursday last. Very crowded and noisy - two things she doesn’t much care for - and more standing than she was comfortable with. But she did get to chat with some nice people called Camilla and Sophie of whom the latter was very impressed at her style. As is the way no private photos are allowed (phones had to be lodged) and the official photographer was in the King’s Troupe. So there might be one of her in his company but who knows …..

Now let's be honest here. The only reason they used train station was because they didn't have enough letters in a smaller case font that's all. It had nothing at all to do with the fact they knew nothing about chuff chuffs.

Is Bodnant gardens a Capability Brown landscape? It certainly looks like one

If CB had done it he would have filled in the incline and diverted the river. So safe to say no it isn't.
