Bright and sunny here in the northwest corner of England, the temperature is currently 18C, but rising to 24C later in the day. More work in the garden this morning, dead heading and weeding, but I won’t be outside all day, it’ll be too hot after dinner, so an hour or so in the workshop beckons.

Hot'n'sunny, three baubles down in the Galileo Thermometer in the sitting room* already!  Plan to post vote early in the cool, avoiding Mum Lemmings worked well, I was back before they emerged from their burrows.  I even handed in my repeat prescription too!

Cloudy and 15°C here, the sun should appear around lunchtime with a forecast high of 17°C.

 

The plan is to go in the garden shortly until coffee time, then hopefully sorting out some Swiss photos and a bit of modelling.

 

I may go and look at a shop which sells plants and DIY stuff later, I will take my vote to the post.  There are five candidates, so far I've received leaflets from the two main parties and I have seen one poster in someones front window.

 

i watched the final episode of the French series of Maigret on TPTV last night, as it started I thought the actor playing Maigret looked a bit ill, it turned out he (Bruno Cremer) had throat cancer and his lines were spoken by someone else and dubbed.

 

I watched some of the football, I don't know why I bothered.  I don't think either team really turned up.

Hot!  Just been outside in the sunshine sweeping up the debris left by the contractors for our local water company who have been installing water meters to all those houses (like ours) that didn't have one.  They sort of swept up but I still managed to clear up a couple of small shovelfuls of mud and bits of tarmac.  The Boss is now happy because she thought it was "a terrible mess" although TBH compared to some of the jobs I've seen done it was quite good although they did completely fill the keyhole in the meter cover with tarmac but I've dug that out.  It has now  been decided that only a small amount of Sharking needs to be done and that can wait until tomorrow morning so I am now free.

I think a cold drink of some description is called for.

I have had one of those days where my head is about to explode. One of my (many) trigger issues is conflating metrology with policy. Another I'd citing papers and technical standards without having read the things. I was mired in both today.

 

Emissions measurement is emissions measurement. Emission limit values or regulatory controls are something else. And I  felt like banging my head against the wall when people threw an ISO standard in as a sort of panacea to make it all work when if they'd bothered to read the standard not only did it contradict what was being claimed, it explicitly stated that the application in question was not within its scope.

 

I wouldn't blame 99%+ of people for not having a clue as why would they, but people working for regulators should know better.

Dull grey and not so misty, but very warm and sticky outside.

 

The Unit of unmentionables needed was luckily the easiest to get out. That was replaced in the shed by some wooden boxes and various other items. The returning unit of unmentionables will replace the boxes position tomorrow.

Loading the trailer was easy, I kept it on the front tow ball, that tilts the trailer lowering the back. When on the rear tow ball it is of course level, meaning a steeper ramp. 

 

Much maneuvering of the gp trailer, the addition of a front tow ball was one of the best modifications I've ever done to the landrover. So much easier...

 

Since the mower was out, a run up and down was done, widening the cleared path.

 

To today being the 26th the MRC bank statement is available on line, so when I've recovered, that will be pasted into this quarters accounts.

Muggy and fuggy at the Distant (Signal) West. We woke to sun trying to burn off the fog; it has failed so far though it remains bright, warm and very humid outside. 
 

The small people at the school opposite have been enjoying their gardening lessons. They have a small and well-tended corner of the school field set out as a semi-public garden with trees, shrubs and flowers. Anyone is free to walk in and enjoy after school hours. I watched as they carried watering cans and wheeled barrows from school to garden and back with apparent delight that they can get out and get dirty!  Very encouraging to see that sort of activity in 4-7 year-olds. 
 

Muddling Club beckons after lunch by way of a tip run and dropping a supply of books into Our Friends in Camborne who have agreed to stock the title. It is already 30C in the club rooms so the afternoon might be somewhat sweaty. We’ll see.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Another day to stay indoors out of the heat. Didn't get much sleep last night due to the heat. When I got up this morning between seven and eight the bedroom thermometer was reading 27C. I came downstairs the temperature in the lounge was a more comfortable 22C.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Because of my hayfever I have to keep doors and windows shut. However this afternoon its so hot that I opened a couple of windows and fortunately the pollen didn't get in and the temperature has dropped a degree or so. Lack of sleep is catching up on me now so time for some eyelid inspection.

I got out into the garden, it was pleasantly mild but rather dull with the foghorn making its usual noise at the harbour entrance.  The remains of the poorly plant were taken out of its pot and the pot cleaned.  Then I did quite a lot more weeding, the bin is now getting nicely full. 

 

After coffee I posted my vote in the letter box by the post office and then went to have a look at a ship, Wilson Norfolk, which is moored at the alumina terminal.  By now the sun had come out at home but down by the harbour the mist was coming and going with the foghorn still making a noise.  On the way home I called at a shop to get a couple of A4 ringbinders to file some church things.  They were £1 each.  I remember that when I went to University in 1968 ringbinders were 6s 6d each (32.5p).  Inflation has been very much worse for everything else over the past 56 years!

 

This afternoon I went to have a look at plants in the local Homebase and found a prostrate  juniper to put in the pot.  They also had a few of their scented geraniums at 75% discount so naturally I bought three more.  I called at Aldi and bought a large garden plastic trug as the handle had broken on mine.  I also bought a few bits and pieces of food.

 

The juniper is now in its pot and looks fine, the other plants are in the greenhouse and the food put away.  Once that was done I just sat in the garden for a while listening to the birds.  At least one of the shrubs has a nest in it as I could hear soft cheeping sounds.  I think there are two nests, one at the side and one at the end of the garden in a weigela and holly respectively.

 

Later on I'll need to water the plants in tubs and the greenhouse, then I'm not sure whether to sit and rid or watch a DVD or stream something.  Whatever I do it should be a quiet evening.

Several scorchio days in a row, even here in the wilds of Ravenglass.  Bar the (excellent) railway, why anyone would live in such a god (pick your own) forsaken place is beyond me.  Still, the railway never disappoints and a stroll around Boot (yes, really) is always pleasant.

 

Moving on tomorrow, to the madness of the Lakes, where we will not drive but take the buses to the required destinations, the £2 thing is a boon.  It's only BUSY at this time of year, as opposed to BUSY once the skools are out, but we like to be handy for the ferry home.  Weather is due to break a bit tomorrow, with the dried-up seaweed twirlers predicting 17c, 10 less than today.

Aditi went to see her Mum today, the M25 was a bit slow, but all the traffic diverted from the clockwise direction down the A10 made the last part of her journey slow. The car thermometer started to go up and Aditi could see vapour and smell something. It wasn’t far to her Mums so she continued and phoned the AA. They arrived on time and Aditi was most impressed by the AA man. He reassured her they would get her home if he couldn’t sort it. It wasn’t the water pump or thermostat, it was the electric fan. He identified the fault as corroded terminals, cleaned them and it was fine. It worked perfectly on the way home, the temperature gauge stayed where it should be even in slow and stationary traffic. We have to go and see MiL again tomorrow. I think I will be driving and we will go in the Evoque. Mil is not doing well. She has a urine infection which can have strange effects in the elderly, it is difficult to kniw whether it  is that or her dementia causing her to be the way she is. Aditi’s sister can’t pop round as she is in Switzerland for a few days. Aditi was going to do her Mum’s shopping tomorrow but I did it this evening. The traffic towards Southend was slow but the supermarket was really quiet. I had to go there as Aditi had ordered some presents for our nieces. Our original plan was to take MiL to see her granddaughters on Saturday near Kettering but we don’t think she will be well enough to travel . However Aditi’s brother will drive his wife and children down to Enfield. 
At her early morning GP appointment the GP thought Aditi ought to start some medication for raised blood pressure. Probably a timely decision.

Good evening from a still warm, 27, Charente.it was about 34 this afternoon.  However the visit to the Orthopod went very well. He is delighted with Beth's progress.she just needs more physio. 

 

Then a lovely meal on the way home.  Beth can now use a knife and fork again.  However she still needs the Physio as she can't raise a wi glass a d drink from it with her right hand. A scientific experiment proved this.  She now has a positive goal to aim for.

Gareth Jenkins would’ve done well to remember he worked for Fujitsu, and NOT for the Post Office….so he had valid reason to refuse their “requests” (apart from it being plain wrong anyway)
