RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 23 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23 (edited) Evening all from Estuary-Land. With the prevailing dampness Arthur Itis is having a field day, Nurofen has been taken. I will venture out to Tess Coes tomorrow, supplies are getting low. I've also got to sort out some things concerning items that run on two parallel pieces of metal. Still a bit windy out but it seems to have eased a bit to what it was earlier. RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted January 24 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 24 Ey up! May be today is a scintillating day.. but then again, can I take the added excitement? Busy day planned.. hoovering/mopping/polishing.. wow! Later an on line meeting with some like minded mates.. later a trip to the MRS to check 0lans for a weekend at Pontecarlos. I am repairing some items donated to the charity shop herself volunteers at. Fixed an exploding box car and a Connie.. Next up a diesel and another battered loco.. proper old fashioned muddling.. need to get a satellite launcher and a glider launcher to work before they are put up for sale. Been 8nvolved in an off line discussion about the "new" Challenger 3 design.. none of the people involved have any knowledge of tank design. Do they bother asking anyone who does... erm of course not. I and others can see tears! Time to lever myself out of my pit, drink my tea and gerronwithit! TTFN! RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 24 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 24 (edited) Good morning all, Dry start and not as windy as last night. It's a bit dull but looks as though things will brighten up with some hazy sunshine. Mild at 9°C rising to 12°C. A quick scan of the garden has revealed nothing amiss, turned over, torn or blown away. Spent the evening listening to some music and watched a film, "The Great Escaper" with Michael Caine, Glenda Jackson and John Standing. Loosely based on the true story of a 90 yo D-Day veteran who "escapes" his care home to visit France for the 70th anniversary of the landings. I found it very enjoyable and quite moving in places. It was Glenda's last film and not released until after her death although apparently she did get to see it. Michael Caine has said that it was the last film he would make too. Today's agenda includes a walk taking in the delights of the local Asda, a visit to The Shed and an online zooming session. That should keep me occupied for a while. It's that time again so farewell for now, Have a good one, Bob. Edited January 24 by grandadbob
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 24 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 24 (edited) Good morning everyone It was very windy around here last night, it was so loud I ended up putting earplugs in to drown out the noise. It seemed much worse than the last 2 storms with at we’ve had recently. Thankfully we seemed to have escaped any damage, all the fences look to be ok and there’s no unexpected items in the garden. It’s still a bit blowy here this morning, but nothing like last night. Up early today, this is so I can get Sheila’s 1st set of eye drops in early enough so that the 2nd dose can be given before I head to The Christie at 12 noon for my CT scan. I have to be there for 12:45 and the scan doesn’t take long, so hopefully I’ll be back in time to administer the 3rd set, which will be around 4 o’clock. It’s all go here I can tell you! Back later Brian Edited January 24 by BSW01
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 24 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 24 Mooring Awl, Another very poor nights sleep, very noisy with wind as the direction is from the west to which the house is more exposed. at the peak winds just after mid night the house actually shook, we are down to a mere 49mph wind at the moment. I see South Uist is on third on the wind chart (bbctv) today, that'll be at Range Head, where the radar is they use to cover missile tests.. Never actually went to Range Head, but I knew guys who worked there and saw it from a short distance. Ben has taken me on patrol, we windy out there, dry , blue welkin. ground soft. Mr Mole is finding life easy, huge mounds of earth from him all over the place. yesterday when I went to the museum, they had just set up the sugar beet loader and were doing the first lorry... from the pile left that was the only lorry load taken and the loader has gone.. most odd.. Spent some hours researching 10 inch computers last night, i selected 2GHZ , 1920x1200 pixels, 8 cores, 8 GB RAM , 32 GB ROM as minimums. Another requirement was not Amazon Fire as their software selection is too limited Ive ordered a cheap chinese Android tablet, meeting those specs , though it has more memory of both types, can take a 1TB SD card, and a phone sim for 5G. Should be here tomorrow.. Ben is quite lively this morning, he keeps interrupting me, with toys to tug or throw. I need to get more sleep time to snooze. 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 24 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 24 Morning, from a rock that once again suffered a very windy night. 8c and dry now with just a 'good wind' after yet more 70mph stuff overnight, UK cut off again etc etc. Once of the garden fences is struggling to remain upright, thankfully the neighbour on that side is handy with such things so he's going to put some new posts in (all fences here are 'shared') so we'll just cross his palm with Manx pound notes. Yes we still have them, although rare in open circulation. Some scintillating chat with friends later, while I avoid SWMBO who is working from home on Wetkneesdays prior to not working that day at all from April. A small pension from across (ie the UK) she accrued years ago is making up the shortfall in income, she's 60 on Saturday so will be getting it from then. She tells me she wants to work for another 5 or 6 years while work is enjoyable, but if that changes again (she had to change roles somewhat against her will last year) she may just pack in. Her Civil Serpent pension is just about topped off anyway. 13

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted January 24 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 24 Good moaning from a grey and overcast Charente. However it's staying warmer. Just had an hour carpenter ing in the shed working on the new shutters. Beth has just gone off with a friend to a shop called Gateaux. I wonder what they will be eating. Now the ironing beckons. Music to be chosen next then a pleasant afternoon in prospect and an evening meal out. And a new comic ©Chrisf, appeared yesterday. The 1000th issue of that one so a bumper read. Ttfn. RMweb Gold Hroth Posted January 24 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24 (edited) Today has become dry, bright through a light overcast and the winds have subsided over the past hour or so after a very wild night. The wind direction was such as to blow one of the seed tubes off the bird feeder... I'll pop it back on when I go out for a post-storm visual inspection in a while. ... Topped up the seed tube and returned it to the feeder, no storm damage elsewhere either (The Dalek stayed put too!) so all a ✔️ 🙃 Edited January 24 by Hroth Update 5
Popular Post Winslow Boy
Waiting for the scaffolders to turn up. It's still windy from last night's storm, as my fellow occupiers of Greater Manutopea have testified, so I have my doubts. You can never tell with scaffolders as there a bit of a 'rogue' bunch. Anyway will give them a bit longer, but sooner or later I will have to depart as I have jobs to do and people to annoy. Plus DD has to be walked, although we are on 'light duties' as she's recovering from having a limp yesterday. 3

I remember a health and safety manager (he was actually pretty senior, not just H&S manager for the plant but for the generation portfolio in Britain) who went out and berated some scaffolders who might have been described as 'rough diamonds' and was literally floored, oh dear.... He was one of those H&S people who seemed incapable of personal interaction without sounding like he was speaking down at others and rather pompous. I did warn him and offered to speak to them (we were watching a couple of them chatting without having their hard hats on) but he saw his opportunity for glory and took it. I know I shouldn't, but it counted as some of the best entertainment I had in electricity generation as I watched it unfold in slow motion. 2 2
