@woodenhead yep rail journeys are now boring. Travelling up and down to London I preferred to fly BMI. Quicker, more comfy and the food was ok. The lat3st breakfast on Late and Never Early Railways was ok but not a patch on either BMI or the BR Yorkshire "Pullman". Seats are carp on the Azooomas.. and the number of coffee visits is now down to 2 (or 3 at best) for the whole journey from Leeds...

 

@BoD.. I changed the ball joints on my mini once. I quickly realised the Haynes Manual was, shall we say, quaint do I rearranged the way to do it.. job done and dusted without the need for bleeding the brakes.

 

Looks like I may be on dobi duties today.. however I have a trip planned for  later as I need to test a kit of parts I have built. Will also fill up beast (again!). Moreasons have dropped their petrol price 146p a litre.

 

I do note that despite low level of patients in our local hospitals suffering from covid doctors are still using it as a reason for people dieing. Seems they can't really be bothered with the real reasons.

 

Photomanipulation seems to be the in thing at the moment. Great for some .. but for all.. just saying like.

Mooring Awl,

1/2 hours sleep, not enough.

 

Ben the I'd like to go out Collie was only a little early this mooring, and moorings is right. Yesterday we were only supposed to get showers, but instead we got heavy rain for much of the day and night. This morning it's raining from the trees as we've obviously had recent rain, the ground is very squelchy and dangerous in that mole and rabbit tunnels may collapse as you walk over them.

It is pretty chilly outside, the clouds have cleared.

 

Ben enjoyed himself again wandering around areas he normally doesn't, he's now back in his pit snoring.

 

Somewhere in the depths of the garage there is a timing light, last used back in about 1986 when I rebuilt a Triumph straight 6 engine 2000cc. Unlikely to be used again, as I've lost enthusiasm for that sort of thing, especially as my paws don't like handling cold lumps of metal.. or cold lumps of anything.

 

I had the sniffles for the last couple of days, that's gone. Also my forepaws were very cold, but from last night they have been very warm though still stiff.

 

Plans for today,

Off to an orange shed, wearing  gloves on the way there, as the steering wheel will be cold, get various sticky substances, to prevent water getting where it shouldn't.

Then on return hopefully use them.

 

Time for breaky.

Well it was raining when I came downstairs for breakfast, but now it’s stopped and the sun is shining! So, I’m going to set off for the butchers for the weekly meat rations and a pork pie for my dinner as soon as I’m finished here. A click and collect package from the Trafford Centre will be next on the agenda and then an afternoon of relaxation.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Only one call out from bladder control last night but Arthur Itis was hammering away  when I got up this morning so a brace of Nurofen was taken. Will be doing a big shop today as the Tess Coes vouchers are due to expire next week and they are all for things that are part of my regular shopping with one exception, mince pies which considering the time of year I might as well get. The other vouchers are for cheese, cooked meat and salad items.

Good morning from the Distant (Signal) West.  We are threatened, yet again, with heavy rain and strong winds but currently the Velux overhead suggest the sky is clear and nothing is falling from it.  

 

A busy day lies ahead.  My first meeting with the local asthma nurse is due in half an hour.  I have managed to get the necessary inhalers on rolling prescription which I could never manage from the Hill of Strawberries so that's a good start.  Dr. SWMBO requires a parcel deposited into one of those locker-machines later; the nearest is a modest 7 miles away at Sainsburys which I was due to visit anyway later.  And there's exhibition set-up and the layout to move from its clubroom at Praise-the-Beetle Praze-an-Beeble to Hayle.  I expect to be roped into hall set-up as well although moving large numbers of chairs may or may not be a reasonable task depending on how the asthma is going.  It's playing up a little in the damper climate compared with London.  

 

I may well be offline here due to exhibition commitments but I can always be "pinged" on the phone if the need is urgent.

I'm a very late riser today, I heard the heating come on and assumed it was 07.30.  I turned over and looked at the clock and found it was 09.15 and the bedroom was nice and warm.  Obviously it had been on for some time.

 

I am now up, breakfasted, jobs done and the rest of the day stands before me, empty.  That is as well as I still feel not well, but not as useless as yesterday.  I think all I'll do today is read a book and watch TV if I can find anything, I think my energy has left me.  I really do feel like a "wrung out dishcloth" which is what people in the family always said at these times.

 

Hopefully I will now start to improve but I really do think I need to rest for a while now.  Perhaps I should have done that before then I might not have caught whatever I have got.  

 

Interestingly having looked at "sensible" web sites (hospitals, government health sites, etc) I have found that it is not uncommon for people to get bad colds/sinusitis/fly symptoms shortly after starting on the medication I am now taking.  I wonder if that is a side effect of if resistance is temporarily lowered. It would make a nice little research project if its not already been done.

It's that time of year where I ask myself whether it is worth renewing my professional membership for next year. I really object to the system of professional registration in the UK which requires engineers to be a member of an institute. So to be registered as Chartered Engineer you have to be in an institute. I wouldn't mind, but I am genuinely struggling to point to anything useful any of them really do. At one time it was different, I remember when they published real technical papers, with original research, were forums for technical discussion, promoted learning, standards and improvements in safety, published learned journals etc. Now most of seem to publish magazines that are thinly disguised advertisement and they seem busier virtue signalling and showing their commitment to the current thing than doing anything remotely related to engineering. I no longer need it for me job (when I was doing design approval my employer wanted it as part of my competency record, basically for their own legal defence if I approved a ship which sank or blew up because I made a mistake in the calculations or something) and I can really think of better ways to spend S$500.

The garage workshop roof was a pain ... Literally, crawling about on damp corrugated asbestos is no fun at 9C even if it is only a light breeze.

A full brush off of the roof disclosed one tiny hole and a small crack, neither where the leak is on the inside. I can only assume the gales of Cieran and Debi, were blowing water up hill  between the roof sheets . I've used 2.5ltr of fibrous sticky  gue to fill the gaps, another 1ltr is required to finish the job.

 

Have been looking at a more permanent solution. The three coming up are.

Complete replacement.

Putting a secondary roof on top , normally metal, sometimes with insulation between.

Encapsulation, but that's normally spray on and specialist.

Since I was going to insulate on the inside anyway, putting it on the outside appeals.

More research needed.

 

Then to the kitchen window, at 90 degrees to the window and above it, is the bathroom. There must be a steel to support the bathroom wall, which is hidden by two wooden planks. I found a bodge, by the previous owners, the join of the two planks was filled with ancient silicon as was a rotten patch of wood. I suspect rain is now getting behind the wood and water is running down a stress crack in the brickwork caused by the steel. Anyway as I'm frozed, I've bodged it again as you may have seen tomorrow's forecast . But I've measured up, and will obtain a uPVC replacement for the wood.

Afternoon all, I've been without Internet access for a few days, so have just been having a little catch up, some posts sulked re rating and the whole forum froze a couple of times, so apologies if I've missed anything. 

 

Notalot to report, various things happening but not many which are either very interesting or suitable to discuss here. I have been sneezing violently occasionally this week, my sneezes are never delicate 'achoos' but the sort of thing a sensitive seismograph could pick up from the next village along. But these are an order of magnitude greater. Only three or four a day but the sort of thing reminiscent of a cartoon sneeze. (And that's not an invite to ask your favourite politician to come round and doorstep me in the hope of them getting greeted with a sneezing bunny...). No other cold symptoms. Ho hum... 

 

Just waiting now for a delivery of the groceries. Another day in the fast lane...

Oh that used to drive me mad about the particular Institute I was required to be a member of (CIPD - shh!) the magazine had one page - ONE - of case law review, the entire rest of it was adverts for jobs in London for HR (shh again) professionals. It was also several hundred pounds a year, and that was back in 2002 when I last registered before my career went in a different direction - again.

Today has been better than yesterday, I think I am slowly rejoining the world but still feel weary and fragile.  I have discovered that while I take tamulosin I cannot have diclofenac which I use for my neck and shoulder in the form of Voltarol.  It sems I will have to go back to Radian B pending discussion with my GP.

 

I read magazines between coffee time and lunchtime, after that I went to a local shop to buy some Lemsips and a bag of rolls.  I stopped in the small beach car park to look at the sea but stayed in the car, walking would have been too much effort.

 

Back at home I got a jigsaw out to start in the next few days to try to make me stay in one place for a bit but not just reading.  I also cut some wind damaged bits off a climbing rose and a few bits of next door's clematis which had got through the fence.  That was more than enough exercise - normally it would have taken less than 5 minutes, it took somewhat longer today.

 

Then I had a cup of tea and read my book.  This evening will once again be reading and TV, I might make a start on the jigsaw.

 

Hopefully I'll be back to normal by early next week, fingers crossed.

Take a day's holiday she said so I can accompany her to the garage and do some shopping in Warrington.

 

Left the house in Manchester before 9am, returned at 5pm - like a day at work but this one involved going to the garage, visiting many banks and building societies, lunch at McDonalds (please don't judge, it is a particularly good one in Westbrook) then Ikea with a big list.  Mrs W still had time to kill before the car was ready so off to a local posh fitness place for a look around for her before picking up the car.  On the way back in my car I had to attempt to buy big packs of toilet roll and some tea for tonight.

 

Am knackered again, did I mention today was a day's holiday.
