I think the average weight of passengers on cruise ships may have increased too. The lifts on QM2 (which claims not to be a cruise ship, rather an ocean liner) have a max persons number/ weight restriction. It seems to assume maximum weights of 75kg per person. Aditi encourages me to walk but after dinner I usually did not really want to walk from deck 2 to deck 13 so we wouid use the lift. One evening we were in the lift and when it stopped a two women and a rather large man got on. The lift would not move. After the person who,was nearest the controls had pressed a few buttons, I mentioned the overload light was illuminated. The two women said they would get off. The light stayed on. The large gentleman said it must be faulty. I remarked it had been fine until we had reached his deck. I asked him to let me by so Aditi and I could get off to allow others to continue, when he turned and left the lift and the light went out. 2

Our old force training school had a 9 story accommodation block. The lift had a sign saying max 12 persons. Next to it was a handwritten notice saying not more than 10 police officers. That was in 1973before the height restrictions were dropped. Jamie 18
Popular Post Ian Abel
Chewsday... Yesterday, brain teaser of a section of the new reports the client wants, my head almost exploded trying to determine how they built it out, OUCH!! Weather-wise the drizzle turned to a continual moderate rainfall for much of the day, totaling 1.5 inches time it was done, making over 4 inches since Saturday! Today, more magical report work to keep me busy and fry my brain. We're having a picture window replaced, and the replacement glass was/is defective, installers NOT happy with the QC done by the manufacturers, so we have it temporarily in place while they get a new piece manufactured. Mrs off for a walk around the lake then lunch with one of her friends. First thing 15c overcast and potentially "threatening to rain", high of 17c expected. Tally ho. 7
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted September 26, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 26, 2023 (edited) It's a long time since I last used a lift, I can't even think of a building I visit which has a lift.. I weight 84Kg, exactly the same as 25 years ago which pleases me. I am very solid rather than big, for many years when I was going to school I used to go to the Goose Fair in Nottingham in the autumn, I always won a prize on the "guess your weight" stall as even then I was a lot heavier than I looked - if you throw me in water, even the sea, I sink. It is pouring with rain at the moment, the Met Office forecast says there is a less then 5% chance of rain wheras the app on my phone says rain. I went to the barber's this morning, the only snag was that it was closed as he is away on holiday all week, so I'll go next week instead. When he is going away he always leaves a note stuck on the shop shutters. I had a walk around the town's shops which doesn't take long, they get fewer, all I bought was some biscuits and tins of baked beans along with a cheese scone to have back at home with my coffee. After that I went to the beach and had a quick walk. After my coffee and scone I had a chat with friends along the road who were in their front garden and then continued working in the garage. The shelves and sets of drawers are now all in their new places, an old shoe rack is in temporary use to store some toolboxes. "All" I have to do now is go through all the junk useful items and treasures and get them nicely put away so I can find them again. Then there will have to be a trip to the tip to get rid of anything I decide not to keep. Next will be seeing what wants watering in the greenhouse, then tea. This evening may again be reading a book and listening to music as I haven't yet found anything I really want to watch. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 26, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 26, 2023 (edited) A pleasant time was spent surfing "the Bay" and I have now ordered a brewery dray, beer casks, crates and bottles to add to the pub. The Boss very kindly offered to buy these for my birthday. Air fryer has been deployed and chicken and roast potatoes are on the menu and will be accompanied by broccoli and carrots. I'm 87kg at the moment which I believe makes me a bit heavier than the average UK male. I was about the same weight when fully fit in my early twenties however there is now a huge difference in my shape, a lot less muscle, lots more fat....oh and I'm at least an inch and a half shorter. Bear might want to look away now but I'm quite happy to swop chips for other things, whether new potatoes, jackets or mash - sausages and mash is always well received in this burrow - or root veg - carrots and parsnips are favourites - and/or peas. Tea yesterday was sausages, parsnips and peas, with a few green leaves from the salad window trays. I don't dislike sausages and chips but like other combinations too. Tomorrow's lunch is pencilled in as being a venison sausage roll (a Rabbit DIY job) with carrots, parsnips and green beans.

That sounds splendid, but a few questions if I may? What type pastry are you using? Rough Puff? Shortcrust? Suet? Is it homemade or ready made? Tom Kerridge (two Michelin Stars and a real nice down-to-earth bloke [I’ve met him and got a guided tour of his kitchen 😁]) uses good quality ready made pastry at home and if it’s good enough for TK, it’s good enough for me! Venison is a very lean meat, how do you keep it moist? Pork fat mixed in or pork sausage meat mixed in? Plain minced venison I think would dry out by the time the pastry is cooked. How are you doing the parsnips and carrots? In chunks, steamed/boiled and then buttered? Mashed (together or separately)? Puréed (drain veg, dry off moisture in a medium hot pan, pass through a passe-vite, add cream and butter to taste/get your preferred texture [a good purée shouldn’t be watery or too thin]) Carrots are great when cooked al dente then tossed in butter in which you have sautéed some finely julienned ginger, you can also add some brown sugar a minute or two before they are done to get a nice caramelisation. Mrs iD loves Haggis, which I always serve with “bashed tatties and neeps” *(proportions to individual taste, I do 60% parsnips/40% floury spuds). Sometimes I do a rough mash, other timesI pass the veg through the passe-vite and add a little butter and cream. These go nicely with many other things as well. PRO TIP: there is nothing worse than watery or soggy vegetables; the best way to deal with this is to drain the vegetables well, then dry them out in a nonstick pan before dressing them with butter or mashing them/puréeing them with butter and/or cream. * not forgetting the all important whisky & cream sauce - something I’m still perfecting (I think “one measure whisky for the pot and two for the chef” may be a slightly flawed approach) 14

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted September 26, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2023 @Tony_S Tony ref cruise ship lifts when we were on P & O ships Britannia, Iona and Ventura I think the lifts claimed a maximum of 18 persons. The last time I counted one we were in there were 11 people and it was too cramped, how the hell they would get 18 in I know not! There were a few somewhat larger than me.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 26, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2023 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Done a bit of shopping this afternoon and when I got home I went upstairs to change and I laid on the bed and promptly fell asleep. A job for tomorrow is to prune the bottom of the shrubs in the garden so that the foxes have nowhere to hide, and dig holes. I will also have to set about dismantling the old shed but first I will have to recover some tools from it. Some of the tools were my dads and are older than me such as a bench drill and vice. I'm not sure if the bench itself can be rescued as its showing signs of woodworm. 17

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted September 26, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 26, 2023 Um, I have to admit to being 88Kg, mostly also in the wrong places. I know this due to the Physiotherapping this afternoon, although judging by the amount of sweating I did I must be several Kg lighter now. They were very good and smiled and encouraged nicely while torturing me, same again for the next 6 weeks and homework - pah. Time will tell if it helps, currently I'm going for the painkillers big. Allegedly I am much better than 6 weeks ago, at least in the manoeuvring department but the joint pain remains the same. No pain, no gain..... Weather forecast here looks really bad for tomorrow, with severe gales 60-70 mph late afternoon/evening. Southerly too, which is most unusual, so everything leans the wrong way. There will be damage. 3

It is NOT actually a nail property, though many people still think the carriageways separated because the owners wouldn't sell. Rather, the curious arrangement of the roadways is apparently due to geological complications. There was a TV programme all about the farm a few years ago - they did offer to buy the place buy the owner decided to stay put anyway; I don't recall if he got any compo or not. Of course it might be rather short-sighted as I imagine the value of the place is diddly squat if he ever did want/have to move.

I hope to have a go at homemade in due course but quite frankly, probably more of an experiment than in the expectation being converted and of always doing it that way. I haven't met Tom K but have watched some of his TV programmes, yes, wouldn't argue with that! (Any particular brands to recommend)? Venison, I have the rest of the bundle of sausages from yesterday (they are named something else but basically it's decent pork with herbs and some spices) so I will either mix or layer and roll with the venison mince. Yes, I'd expect just plain venison would dry out. Parsnips and carrots will depend on the size of the carrots - I will pull these in the morning and decide as I'm washing/cleaning them! Probably boiled (separately!) and tossed in a little herb butter, possibly finished for a few minutes in the bottom of the oven - I sometimes do this before 'basting' to help dry them out, I hate watery or soggy veg, reminds me of school. I haven't pureed them but have tried mashing. Personal preference, I like carrot and potato mash but am not so keen on carrot and parsnip or those plus potato. Not sure why. Even if I do quasi Cornish pasties using mashed ingredients and sausagemeat rather than chunks, I tend not to include parsnips but will happily cook them separately and serve together. Just one of Rabbit's peculiarities? Though I will try a 'neeps and tatties' style mash one day, see how that turns out. RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted September 26, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 26, 2023 (edited) Evening All, Shopping was shopped. We gave in and did their job for them by doing a (not very) smart shop. Came to pay in the smart shop bit and it was all closed of because "We haven't got enough staff to man it". Well, FFS you only ever have one person there and one on the scan your own basket tills and you can't muster two members of staff to look after these areas now you've closed at least 10 tills and (no doubt) made the poor sops redundant. We therefore had to queue up at the scan your own basket tills and then when it was finally our go "Computer says no, someone is coming to help you". Only they weren't, because there was no one there to come and help. The only person there couldn't help the 3 people in front of us with problems because they'd "lost the keys" and everything stops. A complete and utter farce no doubt designed to "Improve the customer's shopping experience" which obviously does exactly the opposite. Lots of dinosaur noises were made to accompany the hoards of small plastic dinosaurs roaming freely across the lounge carpet. Great fun was had by all 😀 The RD's master cylinder casting was cleaned up. It's gone from faded and almost non-existent black (due to years of trying to resit brake fluid contamination (resistance is futile 😉) to relatively shiny natural aluminium. Might annoy the purists but is a practical solution to the age-old paint and brake fluid not mixing well problem. A little bit of head scratching was required on the re-assembly because although (almost) the right number of bits were supplied in the refurb kit they weren't identical in form to what came out but we got there in the end. And I should have left it at that for the day ....... But I didn't as I'd only got to connect the brake hose to the master cylinder and the rigid caliper pipe. How hard can it be? Well, it turns out to be quite hard as the thread on the new caliper pipe appears to be different to the female* thread in the end of the hose and they don't look like they are going together any time soon. That's an extra large box of TCs! Night All! Edited September 26, 2023 by PupCam

I had no less than three deliveries today - the first was for NNND (oh good - she's nice....) then The Big River - who did their usual dump, ring & scarper routine. What was more surprising was the Post Office delivery though - left on the doorstep (with diddly squat attempt to place it somewhere discrete), rung the bell then scarpered, just like Amazon. It's a good job it didn't contain anything expensive like a Class 128 DPU....oh, hang on - that's exactly what it did contain..... Dry but with increasing wind out there . But we won't get our main wind till tomorrow night. Just about every lift I've been in you'd have to be unnecessarily friendly to get the number listed in. The only place I use one these days is the castle quarter shopping centre in Norwich. The car parks are below the shops underground.
