Mrs M. said, and I’m paraphrasing, ‘Well you must have looked a before hand’. The celeb thanked her for the comment, thinking it was a complement. RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2023 On cosmetic medical procedures, I recommend investing in tattoo removal clinics. Most passing fads are just that. People dye their hair in rainbow colours, get a ridiculous hair cut, go goth and lots of other things and when they grow out of it they move on. Even piercings aren't such a big deal if people decide they don't want rings and studs everywhere. However, I look at an awful lot of people now and can't help thinking 'I hope you're still happy looking like that when you're older'. Not so much tattoos that are easily hidden (though they may be just as much a cause for regret) but you see more and more of what seem to be called 'extreme' tattoos on hands, necks, faces and such like.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2023 (edited) Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. It continues to swelter today, 28C outside and 26.5C indoors. The goodies I won in a draw arrived lunchtime, a couple of diecast models and a tote bag. Neither of the models is to a scale I use but the tote bag will be very useful. Time to sort out dinner, a cold one, salad. Edited September 7, 2023 by PhilJ W 15

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2023 Church was fine this morning, I had a good natter over coffee afterwards, mainly about photography. After that I went to the small beach car park and had a pleasant walk and sat watching the world go by for a while. There weren't many birds about today except for a number of cormorants paddling quietly along and sometimes diving, coming up with fish they had caught. The beach and prom were much quieter today now that most people are back at work. One school had brought a large group of young children down to the beach, both children and adults were enjoying playing games. Back home I had lunch then sat and checked yet again what needs doing in the garden. Then it was time for a read. Steve has just been and we've decided what to do and how, I have enough slabs, they may need to get some more gravel. A yew will also be trimmed- I did it a few years ago and it was hard work then. Unless anything goes wrong it will be done on Wednesday - as Steve is taking time off at the end of the week to go fishing and the young man with him goes away on Friday, so they are having a week of "small" jobs. Now it is tea time, then it will probably be more reading or TV. At one time I would have been going to the Photographic Society tonight as the new season starts today. I've decided I am no longer interested in competitions and practical nights - that would leave about 6 evenings I might want to go to between now and Easter. Also most of the people I knew no longer go. Yesterday I rang the secretary to explain why I will not be there, I was told I can change my mind at any time and just turn up for the odd meeting if I want to. In a way it is sad but it is time I stopped doing things I no longer look forward to or enjoy. To be honest it is also a relief not to have to go out at night, especially when the weather gets worse - deicing a car in the dark in winter is no longer fun. I'd been going to the Photographic Society for over 35 years and had been on the committee for many of them and been President more times than I care to remember. A while back I decided that as I got older I would stop doing things as and when I stopped really liking them, I've seen too many older people go to meetings and moan continually about things changing and generally being a pain, I don't want to be like them. No, he was a real asset as he was one of the few electricians who was up to speed on the LPG tankers - that's how he was eventually missed as there was a bit breakdown on one. Electricians were two-ring rank officers BTW. A lot of the old time 'leckys' were OK on the cargo ships fiddling on with Ward-Leonard sets and stuff, but the control systems on modern LPG reliquifaction vessels were not exactly their cup of boiling butane.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2023 Evening all It has been warm and no mistake. The amount of Saharan Dust in the air has been seriously troubling with much sneezing and watering of the eyes. The Sandman literally visited but was clearly on another timezone as I was already awake. Schools are back en masse with the usual first-week-of-term mums and dads clutching the paws of young offspring freshly clad in a new school uniform. Quite a fair few folk are still arriving home off holidays. Or in one case - the couple who asked me for the train to Wandsworth - received the blessings of the Gwiwer. Spotting the airline tags I quipped “So you have come all the way from Doha for a holiday in Wandsworth?” Which at least got a laugh from a couple just off the red-eye flight. There are now just 44 hours remaining rostered at the House of Fun which might be modified by overtime. I normally decline that but occasionally it’s for the greater good. Thai takeaway tonight because it’s too hot to cook in our kitchen and theirs has industrial ventilation. A yellow curry produced just the right amount of response to the weather with light perspiration cooling me nicely.
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2023 Bear here.... Now what did I do after hanging the curtains? Er........ Er...... Oh yes, finally got the Alexa App to work on Izzy Mk.2 - when I was signing in they kept insisting on sending me an "Authentication Code" via text to my phone - which never arrive....🤬 I had this same problem some months back with Amazon** - but as they also email it at the same time there's a dodge to get around it - not so with Alexa. I even went into the Amazon settings to turn off "2-Factor Authentication" but Alexa still insists on sending a bluddy code .....that never arrives.....🤬 In the end it took someone at Amazon Customer Services to fix it - which she has; she's disabled the need for a code so hopefully that's sorted it. **When I asked Amazon back then they blamed the Mobile Phone Service Provider - who of course couldn't find any problem/explain it/fix it either.... Post din dins was taken up by playing with a new toy - Bear now has a Security Cam guarding Bear Towers, with a particular emphasis on detecting signs of Marauding Hippos or Cynical Supervillains; it appears to work rather well so far (I've yet to test the darkness performance) and requires no dastardly subscriptions either, so that's a Tick. Forty Quid to you, Sir, plus the price of a decent memory card (another eleven quid). It was one of the Which? Best Buys - and so far they were right on the money; even a luddite Bear was able to set it up with no (ok, very few) naughty words. I'll call that a Big Tick. One thing that Charlie Cam has failed to detect has been any signs of a Postie arriving to collect Bear's parcel, however.🤬 T0ssers - that's two days in a row now. I'll not be beaten - it's got personal now. The latest achievement of the day has been to sort the three remaining pieces of stair carpet offcuts (one piece has been dumped - it was a useful length but probably no more than 14 - 16" wide, so unlikely to be of any use); the two remaining pieces are a bit wider so have some potential for mats etc. or maybe a replacement piece for a stair tread. They've now been rolled, wrapped & labelled and have been despatched to Beamland for safe keeping. BG

I had set the active range to ignore cars driving along the road but their headlights cast moving shadows on my car parked on the drive. That was what was being detected. The only request I have had for cctv assistance was to see if Rosie the Cat had been spotted when she went missing from her home for a day. 16 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2023 Evenin' each, I visited The Shed for a couple of very brief sessions but gave up because of the heat. It was 29°C when I left at lunchtime and reached 32.4 when I checked at 16.00 hrs and it's now 28.5°C. I think an aircon unit will be bought for next year. Nottalot done at all today although a cold beer was enjoyed before dinner and I've just watered the garden. Even that seems to have knackered me. I did have a rather sombre chat on the phone with old friend and workmate that I haven't seen for several years. He's now 83 and suffering from health issues having been in and out of hospital a few times in the past couple of years. His wife is now in a care home suffering from COPD and dementia and his eldest son who was a workmate as well has COPD, emphysema and stage 4 cancer. Once again my little problems have been put somewhat into perspective and I should count myself lucky.

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2023 I don't think the weather listened to the local forecast today. There were a couple of light showers this morning so my car is covered in a layer of Sahara sand as others have mentioned. It has been very humid and sticky and the temperature did better than expected, it reached 21C. I've been watching the weather from my window, every few minutes "chunks" of thick mist go by on the very light breeze off the sea and the temperature is now 15C. It felt quite cool when I went into the garden to pick some sweet peas and chrysanthemums about 45 minutes ago. I've decided the evening will be Sudoku, book and music, there is nothing on TV I want to watch. David
