Evening all from Estuary-Land. Been raining on and off all afternoon, the only thunder was very distant. At least its laid the pollen so I don't have any runny nose or watery eyes.

In the absence of any substantial rain I had convinced myself to tackle some of the larger weeds in the back yard that are laughing at me. By the time I stirred myself to action the rain has arrived. It seems to have eased off, so I'm going to get out there, even if I don't stay long I want to get rid of the tall ones.

 

EDIT: (20 minutes later)

You can't make this up. I changed into clothes suitable for weed pulling. By the time I was outside a deluge (including small hail) worthy of a Cecil B. deMillian biblical epic movie, had appeared. So I gave up and retired back to the sofa, televised golf and laptop. Having done that the rain (evidently a passing shower) has now all but stopped again.

 

Once more unto the breach.

 

EDIT: 

Now the deed is done. The green yard waste wheelie bin is full to the brim for Wednesday's collection. The heavy rain softened the ground nicely for weed pulling. The back yard continues to be chaotic, full of living things but at least the tall(est) weeds are no longer laughing at me.

Thanks for the concern.  Several of our friends were moved by the event but we were safely in Bournemouth.  We got back this afternoon and everything seems tbe intact. There has even been rain so the water butt's have collected well over 1000litres.  The cherry trees are cropping and several pounds were picked. There has even been a threat that cherry jam wilbe made.  The courgettes have produced al bumper crop. We had a good journey back and darling daughter has give me an Oakwood Press book that I wanted I wonder how she knew.... 

 

No noe has been hurt in the quakethat I aware of.  The epicentre was apparently on the coast about 65 miles WNW of us.  I wilno doubt hear more tomorrow.

Been a bit wet here.. but boy did the garden need it. Funny response from the appointments officer received.. seems like it is definitely time to move on...

Friends of mine were voluntary tax preparers for people who needed help with tax returns but could not afford the usual professional tax preparation services. They had done it for years until a new coordinator took over. After giving this person 'a chance' they promptly stopped.

 

When first promoted to manager I was told that the number one reason people quit jobs is that they don't like their manager. (I would think for volunteers, even more so.)

Good evening everyone 

 

We had a great meal tonight and I came away loaded down with beer, chocolate and money, the kids know me well. Whilst we were at the restaurant, it started to rain and then it REALLY started chuckinitdarn, proper torrential rain the road opposite the restaurant’s front door was almost flooded. So, once back home, I immediately went downstairs to the cellar to see if we’d had any water get in, thankfully it was dry, but the pumps sump was full and from the amount of water in the garden I could see that the pump had been working, so I’m glad I fitted it temporarily. However, when we went into the kitchen we could see that water had once again come in through one of the windows, so I’ll be looking at that tomorrow. Thankfully it wasn’t as bad as it was on Monday and only took about 15 minutes to clear up, but it did put a bit of a damper on what had been a very nice evening.

Somewhat wet here this evening. Abandonment of outdoor activity but at least no need for watering today.

More good cricketing activity this weekend. After last week's heroics and the age group team reaching the final of the T20 Sam's team mates in the seniors came good this week and skittled the oposition for 99 on Saturday before knocking off the runs in 22 of their 40 alloted overs, not leaving him much chance to shine. I couldn't make today's match but he made up for it in today's age group game as he and his opening bowling partner reduced the opposition to 11-3 after the first six overs. He came back to bowl the last over as usual adding a double wicket maiden to end up with 4 wickets for 5 runs in 4 overs and enabling the batting lineup to record a comfortable win. 

T20 cup final for the boys next weekend but that's at the other end of the county so may not make that one. These days I don't usually do a 60 mile drive for a 9.30 am start.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I go to the relevant first-level page (e.g. wheeltappers for ERs) and look at what shows up with a bold title. On many first-level pages I can see a non-bold item on the first page which I have looked at, so I know that all the newer stuff is above that. For places where I haven't looked for a few days I might have to go back a few pages. Then I look at the new threads to see which sound interesting, and click on the circle or star to the left of the title to get to the page with the first unread item. (circles are where I have not pasted in the thread, stars are where I have posted at least once).

When I did the first year of an MBA  course with the OU, about 30 years ago,one of the options for the diploma level was "Managing in the Voluntary sector"  what people don't realise is that the volunteer doesn't respond to the usual, control,discipline regime oas they can walk away at a time of their choosing,thus possessing tbe ultimate weapon. 

 

Anyway it's raining heavily here and the containers are filling well.  More cherries to pick. This volunteer has a great incentive. I'm the one that eats the jam. m after that it's French class.

Ey up!

 

Did not sleep well at all for reasons best known to me... 

 

Today is tidy up my workbench day. I should be receiving a parcel containing an item painted darlington green with black and white lines on it.. my pre birthday birthday present.

 

Need to check my cricket bag as its all been washed so shirts etc need to be returned to the bag. Next game is at Driffield  tomorrow. 

 

Lots of news about semiglutide.. ot, to use its commercial name Ozempic. Its a wonder weight loss drug.. well I have been using it for a while. It does have some nasty side effects but I have lost a fair bit of weight. I await my next diabetic review to see how my sugar levels are doing.

 

Time to jet off into the blue sky shake myself into motion.

Mooring Awl 

Two hours sleep, heavy rain, Thor not striking his anvil, two hours sleep , no rain , two hours sleep no rain.

Ben do I need to get up Collie was very unsettled during the night, during my awake periods he was often wandering around.  We've been on patrol, a lot fresher out there, the wheelbarrow has two inches of rain in it. Got dripped on by trees, 50% cloud cover, quite breezy.

 

Caught just about the whole of Red Dwarf episode 1 series 1 at stupid o'clock. Never seen that one, I've only seen odd episode before, life has always got in the way of following it as a series.

 

Plans for today, head to Norwich, drop off the key tag  to Hickling sailing club,

Go to big shed,

Buy drain pipe to roll up Blue Moon's mainsail on.

Also buy, cladding & battens for mobile home.

 

Time for a muggacoffee..

Good morning all,

Sunshine here and some blue sky with quite a few clouds.  It's a bit cooler but could get up to 26°C and there's a chance of some showers.

We had a very enjoyable pub lunch and afternoon.  Nicki's fiance Darren paid for the meal which was a pleasant surprise and I came away with some wine and a gift voucher which will come in very handy.  It was raining heavily and we got soaked leaving the pub as Steve had to park his ruddy great  Defender 110 a couple of hundred yards away as it wouldn't fit in the car park.  Ongoing problem that he is used to but loves the car so puts up with it.  He imparted some great news and has had a major promotion at work and is now Director of something or other to do with IT which he has been working towards for a while.

Before we went to the pub we popped into Darren's abode and he showed me his new portable air conditioner suggesting it might be ideal for The Shed.  Indeed it might and will be seriously considered,

The Boss is outside gardening , before she went she suggested I needtogettamoveon.  I will but not to garden, I have more important things to do!

The wife and daughter have gone off to Malaysia (no, I'd never heard of it either, but apparently it's a country on the wrong side of the Strait of Johor) so me and the boy have some quality time free of the domestic yoke gorging on junk food. Splendid.

Good morning everyone 

 

Bright sunshine here in the northwest corner of England, there’s a slight breeze so hopefully that will cool down things a little. As mentioned last night, my first task is to see if I can find the spot where the rain is coming in through the large kitchen window, my plan is to get my step ladders out and slowly pour water from a large jug, slowly moving along the window frame until I find where the entry point is. Once found, try and sort it out. After that the plan is to set the manhole cover over the pump sump and then fit the permanent pipe work.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. I did hear the rain last night as I was nodding off but there's no evidence this morning. Will have to visit Tess Coes for a few bits today but thats about all. Now to get on to Virgin Media as my E-mails won't open.
