Popular Post tigerburnie
Benn consuming paracetamol in large numbers(within the given dosage) since my operation, they told me it could take 3 months before all settles down, so I grimaced a bit and bared it. Yesterday was annual mot for me at the clinic, turns out I have a rather nasty infection and now on anti biotics for a week, lucky they did a thorough mot eh?
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted May 17, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) Spent a lot of the morning fighting with the inherited laptop. Keyboard and cmos battery change was easy, after that... SWMBO's brother had reported he thought it had a virus... I still don't know if it had, or if the disk errors that were happening, were the disk drive. The recommended way to test the drive? Put it another computer, and use certain software to check.. Do you think I'm going to risk our main computer and possibly the house network with that virus? No ... So looking for solutions, I thought, hard drive from the older laptop, but that's XP, and small, so how about a new hard drive. Then I discovered SSDs have dropped in price tremendously.. so while researching the right type and size I discovered... A new 1TB SSD, ( double it's old hard drive size), with Win 10 and MS Office preloaded for £58 off ebay.. That'll do. You need a win 7 ,8, 9, or 10 key, that key is on the bottom of the laptop. And you need a MS Office key I bought a legal multi user copy of Office when working for Fluke ( big company discount), so have a key for that 🙂 While working on the above, I got extremely cold. So the fire was re lit. Ben was taken for his long walk, it was warmer outside, down by the marshes, sheltered by a hedge, than it is in the house. Time for lunch, which will be soup, hot... RMweb Premium Popular Post jjb1970 Posted May 17, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2023 I am suffering from typing overload and struggling to motivate myself to write anything more. There are a couple of IMO meetings coming up at the end of June and beginning of July and I have to read every submission and produce a short summary of each along with my opinions. The opinion bit is easy enough as in most cases it's all b*ll*x, but wading through endless documents written in legalese and typing up a summary of each is hard work on the old typing fingers. I shouldn't complain given it's what I'm paid for. I am trying to decide whether I am just becoming progressively more cynical and cantankerous, or whether the quality of submissions really is in freefall.

However, such garages are an ideal** location for a collection of thematically arranged parallel metal strips... * Although on those grounds an elderly MG should fit in one. ** Given a bit of thermal insulation, adequate electrics and heating. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted May 17, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2023 I've spent most of the day sorting through photos and getting them ready to put on the web. It's generally enjoyable except when I get the caption wrong or find lots of spelling mistakes when I check them. I noticed ivy growing where it shouldn't this morning. I, like my neighbours, have a 6' fence round my back garden. A few years later the people behind my street also put up fences at the bottom of their gardens as well as at the sides so there is about a 6" gap between the fences at the bottom of our gardens and theirs. Ivy loves it so from time to time I fill and old watering can with weedkiller and pour it over the ivy. It usually keeps it in check. Later this year my fence will need replacing so I'll get the fencing man to dig out anything growing in the gap. I went round to see the people behind my house, they are doing the same thing - in fact they put weedkiller down yesterday! The toe continues to be a nuisance, walking a short distance is OK but then it rubs and hurts. Sitting still it is fine. I still can't get shoes on so it is sandals and slippers for a bit longer. Apart from the above not much has happened today. I think the rest of today will be music, TV and reading once again. At least the toe is making me rest (and relax) a bit which will probably do me good. David 6

Could you not extend the side fences a further 6" so you (a) don't need a fence at the bottom of the garden (the "neighbour's" fence becomes your back fence - which will save you money), and (b) you're garden becomes 6" longer? 10

I am considering it but as my fence was built first technically the extra 6" would be a trespass. David 5 2 1 2
Popular Post Ian Abel
Happy belated birthday @Gwiwer HUMP day. Quiet workday yesterday. Outside work the following to be reported; 1) I'm either getting a gold star OR banned from choir for eternity! We're SUPPOSED to hand in our music as the year progresses and we move from one service set to another. I've often (MOST OF THE TIME!!) simply emptied my folder at home before the star of a enw set, creating a small mountain of music. Yesterday, a FRANTIC email from the choir director to all involved searching for a piece she hoped someone managed to have as she couldn't find a single copy. VOILA - I have not one, but THREE copies in my collection. She was elated (via email) when I reported I have said piece and could bring it Thursday - funeral rehearsal. It remains to be seen how it's received (See heading above) 🤪 2) Watched and enjoyed the Coronation Concert. Late to the "party" I know but we decided to give it a try. We were suitably impressed with the entire thing, well worth the watch from our point of view. Initially, we thought we'd try it, expecting nothing much, but it was really an impressive display of both talent (IMHO) and visual effects. Today, lunchtime I'm "helping" as the Mrs and Jemma are doing a Costco run! 🤯 10c and partly cloudy first thing, 21c the forecast high. Tally ho. 21

David You could always ask the neighbours if they're happy (they might say yes on the understanding it remains their land (if indeed they do actually own it - if it's a relatively new-build and the developer put the fence 6" away from yours then I'd say the gap in the middle is up for grabs - after all, who's gonna complain?). The "neighbour" will benefit cos' (a) you can maintain the land and keep it free of weeds, and (b) if they're happy for you to do so then you (or they) can treat the fence with preservative occasionally, which will save them money and make the fence last longer. 10

Sounds like you could use one the 'speak and it types things' whatever they are called. Remember a solicitor using one years ago- he spoke a bit and read it back.

OK, it depends on how big the assignment is, but I thought leaving things to the last minute (second?) was traditional university student MO. I remember, having done none all term, I started writing up physics lab reports at noon on the day before deadline and finished the last one at 4AM on deadline day. One of my sons went one better (worse?). A lecturer had told him that, if he did not submit a specific assignment before the year end exam, he would not be allowed to sit that exam. He walked into the exam hall, handed the completed assignment to the lecturer, sat down and wrote the exam, and passed the course. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted May 17, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 17, 2023 The company I've ordered the sdd from has a 98.4% positive listing on 3200 orders. Which seems ok to me especially as I bet many of the 1.6% were inept themselves. People and Computers are like that. The order has already been dispatched!!!

The assessment is solving problems in Excel. and this os based on them having done the work throughout the semester. It's not just a matter of answering questions. I'm wise to that sort of thing and sculpt my assessments to take care of it. Edited May 17, 2023 by Coombe Barton Type 14
