RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 22, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2023 Afternoon Awl, Sailing went.... No where, no wind at all, the only ripples on the water were from the ducks, even Mr Seal and Mr Otter didn't make an appearance... Twas darn cold too. All paws distinctly painful, until the clubhouse warmed up, and I was wearing fur lined boots and thermal gloves. So what have I been doing? Mostly working on the jib for Blue moon. The excess sail cloth was cut off to the marks made yesterday. Three cuts were made up from the bottom about a foot, this is to shape the bottom of the sail into a "belly". Then basting tape applied and the sail stuck with a triangle overlap. Each of the cuts was sewn at the bottom, to stop the basting being pulled apart. The entire bottom was then folded over by about a half inch onto more basting tape. This added section of sail had come from the main where a batten was, when the batten pocket was removed it revealed two wear points of very weak sail, so patches were cut from the excess sail and basted on. One has been sewn into place, on another occasion the other needs sewing along with the cuts, and the aft lower vertical edges. The fore edge needs an extension to the wire in the sail, once installed, the fore edge needs wrapping round the wire and sewing tightly into place. Once the above has been done , reinforcement triangular patches need sewing into the aft lower corner. To take the strain of the jib sheets. A home made curry, is awaiting the popity ping. By for now. 19

Paddington Green is adjacent to the Great Terminus, the Canal Basin and plenty of bus routes but Belmarsh is - well - out in the mists of Plumstead Marshes. In other news a small amount of tidying-up was done outside during which His Furship set paws onto the still-frosty astroturf of The Terrace. He stayed just long enough to demonstrate his stand-up posture to Dr. SWMBO’s camera. It then became too cold for sensible people to potter about. So I came inside and started the lamb roast for tonight. 🥶 Edited January 22, 2023 by Gwiwer 21 2
Popular Post The Lurker
Having done jury service at Belmarsh magistrates’ court twice I can confirm that it is isolated. I mainly drove but could have got the 51 there from here… A cold day in Sidcup- the frost has not fully cleared all day despite the sun and blue skies. I cooked a tagine today - almost reminiscent of “real” baked beans as it had haricot beans and tinned tomatoes and onions, garlic, chilli, harissa and sugar, plus fresh mint, parsley and coriander. Nice and warming. I served it with cous cous, pittas and little bit of griddled sumac chicken. then I say and loafed all afternoon and now it is nearly time to eat again! what a pity it’s Monday tomorrow!
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted January 22, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2023 Over the past few weeks I've noticed that one of my hard drives hasn't always shown as being connected to my PC, unplugging it and plugging it back in has cured it each time - until this evening. It is now defunct - the power supply is OK so it is inside the box. It's only 3TB and was getting a bit full. A new 6TB drive with its own power supply has now been ordered - it was only £6 more than a 4TB drive. It's not a disaster as I have 3 drives connected to the PC and one connected to the laptop, they are kept up to date. "All" I will have to do is copy everything on to it. I also have several smaller drives with specific back ups of data and photos on them which are only connected when needed. I can't complain - it was 7 years old and has never been switched off. It might explain why I had some problems recently with my system, it is working much better now the defunct one has been removed. Magnitudes are lower than previous 'surges' but there is an uptick. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 22, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2023 Evening all from Estuary-Land. I can't wait for the warm weather to arrive though the forecasters say it will be Friday at the earliest. The sciatica has cooled off but its made my feet sore and walking rather difficult but at least Arthur Itis is taking some time off. Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, Not much to report here. Spent the latest part of the day moving ‘stuff’’ from the old business premises and mums house but so far it’s stuck in the back of my van. We’re already running out of room here and we’ve only just started. Really could do with sorting our garage out but it’s too cold to start moving‘stuff’ about as ideally we need to take everything out and add/rearrange the shelving first. I’ve got a load of Dexion shelving at the old premises which can be used but moving stuff about is a bit like the chicken and egg scenario. Oh and SWMBO says it’s got to be re-painted if I want to but it in the garage. FFS it’s the middle of winter and their is some urgency in getting’stuff’ moved. I am required to line my bins in the street along the kerb. This doesn't take the bins from the driveway to the street. The homeowner would have to transfer them from the train in the driveway to the street and back. 3 minutes ago, PeterBB said: The bins already have wheels - obviously an envionmental improvement ... not. It saves dragging them to the backyard. My neighbour keeps his in the back. Every bin day I hear rolling 'thunder' as he drags his yard waste bins past my bedroom. It's a *lot* of engineering for an inconvenience. Fully autonomous bins would be the ultimate 'tech' solution.

When a work buddy went to Disneyland he was amazed that, despite the number of visitors none of the waste bins were full - yet he never saw anyone emptying them. After asking one of the workers he discovered the secret - none of the bins had bottoms - the rubbish would drop right thru' onto a conveyor belt for transfer to a main collection area. I briefly thought that such a system for every house in the UK would be rather smart....until I remembered the f'wits...... Rubble Prams Sofa's....... RMweb Premium polybear Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2023 Bear here..... Up at 05-30 - the Beary Bonce fired up with destructive thoughts at 04-00 and any hope of getting back to sleep disappeared after that. Turdycurses. Today sees prep for the arrival of the Plasterer tomorrow; I also need to add a few more 1mm/2mm plastic shims underneath the new section of floorboard on the landing cos' I discovered there's still a very slight "step" detectable thru' the carpet with the hind paws. There's a fair chance that with new carpet and underlay that "step" would disappear anyway, but I'd rather see what else I can do now rather than wait until after the new carpet is fitted and then think "I wish I'd added a few more shims under that floorboard....." After that it's MIUABGA day. Probably. Bear gone. 10 1
