There was one in the auction I mentioned that took place just before Christmas. The catalogue is now no longer available so I can't tell you how much it sold for.

Yes, mine is on OS 16 and in a minute I will let it upgrade to 16.2. Then I will see if I can find out why it didn’t like Wordpress .

Good evening everyone 

 

As expected, we didn’t get to walk round the gardens at RHS Bridgewater, due to the inclement weather. We did however, have a cuppa and a slice, before doing a bit of shopping in the gift centre. We got home just before dinner and after a sandwich, Ava helped me finish making a fruit tea loaf, which I’d left soaking overnight. Once that was in the oven, we decamped to the living and Ava watched one o her favourite films, ‘The Corpse Bride’ after that we watched another film, this time called ‘Missing Link’. 

 

After tea I took Ava home and then Sheila and I passed the first half of the evening chatting to Vickie, the rest was spent catching up on some recorded TV. 

 

In other news, when we came home from RHS Bridgewater, there was some post on the doormat (yeah I know) giving Sheila a date for her eye op, Tuesday, 10 January at 12:30pm, so hopefully by the end of next month, Sheila will be able to see a lot better than she can at the moment.

I turned off the von and it made no difference.

Morning All,

Not sleeping well again so up having breakfast. Our bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and the rain’s been hammering down making sleep difficult . It’s stopped now but mind won’t go turn off. Thinking of new year’s resolutions but I haven’t fulfilled any of last year’s. Highlight of last year was undoubtedly rehoming Hovis  and nothing else comes anywhere near.  Don’t know what next year will bring.

BTW, I mentioned SWMBO and myself were feeling a bit off it earlier in the week, well not surprising really as we’ve both tested positive for WuFlu.

Just had a morning walk around Bukit Timah, the highest point of Singapore and a nice nature reserve. The area has some artificial lakes created from water filling up abandoned granite quarries, the water is about 32m deep and some of them host some very impressive monitor lizards. The macaque monkeys were well behaved today, stayed up in the tree tops observing.

Keep an eye out, they do turn up quite regularly and sometimes at very enticing prices. It's a beautiful model, I have the LMS twins and keep looking for a green one with yellow ends.

 

As a bit of general advice, if buying Asian brass (and it should be noted most of the well known European companies who made brass models such as Lemaco, Fulgurex, NMJ etc sourced their models from Japan and/or Korea) you need to decide whether you want them for display or to run on a layout. If you just want to collect and display models there are no real issues, but if you want to run brass you need to feel comfortable about servicing them and trouble shooting minor faults. Despite having trick chassis, high end motors etc factory finished brass models can be very temperamental and are especially vulnerable to shorts. The older models are much better as runners as they were more basic, the old Tenshodo, Fujiyama. Microcast Mizuno, KTM models can keep going forever but later run super detailed models went into a sort of detail arms race and they're very prone to silly faults as runners.

Good moaning from the Charente. It's going to be tip day so after breakfast I'll be getting the trailer out of the shed. It functions as a mini tip for boxes and general rubbish and every 2 or 3 months it's time to take it to empty it. I'll load the pile of accumulated  garden rubbish on top then cover it with a cargo net.  

 

The post yesterday, brought a couplevof what Chrif, calledc comics.  I now have plenty of good reading.  I also managed to put some wheels on a brass assembly and it rolled.  

Later we went to some friends  for a meal and had a good evening. 

 

Not a lotvelse to report.

H/S/L to resume today - starting with yet more filling 🙄; this time it's (mainly) the small gap (5mm or so) between the bottom of the walls and the top edges of the stair stringers.  After that it'll be filling any dents in the stair stringers, hand rail and base rail.  That'll keep me amused(?) for quite a while methinks.

Once that's done I'll give some thought to how the spindles are to be replaced, and what with.

Not a good night's sleep, a couple of hours to start with, then a very very long awake, before another couple of hours sleep.

Left elbow really painful this morning, right ankle stiff but not painful. An article "pushed" at me by Google reports Metformin reduces joint damage and the possibility of joint replacement.. I dread to think how much worse my joints could be without Metformin.

 

Ben the I want out Collie got me up, he enjoyed a good charge around not much snuffling. 

Very windy out there, as it has been all night, but it's dry at the moment and the odd star / planet showing.

 

More flood warnings in the local rag, along with a article on Potter Heigham bridge, this being a follow up, they've reopened the bridge to pedestrians barriering off the hole, the article says it's big enough for a 10ft boot!?  Size ten it should be. The photos show it to be near the peak of the 14th century hump backed bridge.. They'll have to open up the modern tarmac surface to see what's going on.

 

For the locals it's a worry, if they close the bridge to boats, there's no road access to chalets up river of it. The bin lorry is a boat, and while you can walk, many use small boats to go shopping. If it turns out to be major and the bridge is closed to boats past May. It would threaten the most spectacular part of the 3 Rivers Race.

Good morning all,

Dry and quite breezy here with sunny intervals and the chance of some showers forecast. Currently 8°C and not expected to get much warmer.

Missed posting for a couple or three days as it's been rather hectic here with all our visitors.  Suffice to say that an excellent time was had by all with much merriment. The TV wasn't switched on for 3 days so that shows how good the in house entertainment was, especially from a couple of the younger family members.  They'd all left by yesterday morning, the house is now quiet and the clearing up was completed yesterday afternoon.  Only three or 4 TV programmes recorded and a couple of those were watched last night.

Back to normal today with Sainsbury's due after 09.00 and we will be short of a couple of items but no need to go out foraging yet.   The bin men aren't due until Saturday this week so a bit of ramming down a couple of bins may be necessary.

I had another small lottery win last night, 30 more pound note coins to add to the coffers in the GDB Towers strongroom.  😀

Time to take tea to Herself who has actually decreed that today there is no need to "gettamoveon."
