Popular Post Darlington_Shed
Just popped in to wish all ERs a merry Christmas! Extended family arrived chez Shed yesterday so we have a houseful, with more arriving for Boxing Day. All bar yours truly have now retired to bed so I'm enjoying a quiet hour - accompanied by a negroni or two - before I turn in. May all your days be merry and bright 🥳 18 4

For anyone else, may the day be good. Meanwhile, I've finished watching Patsy and Edina in Champagne on BBC and am now attempting do the same. 🥳 ĸen 1. Metaphorically speaking - my only colander is plastic, which is probably not 'sanctified', and in any case it's too big to fit on my bonce. 2. I think it was Wikipedia which said that 'Happy Holidays' is the officieal Pastafarian greeting for this time of year, but everyone known that what is written in wikipedia is often bar-locks.

Popular Post Erichill16
Morning All, And Merry Christmas, sorry no card, I’m not clever enough to insert one into my post. Up early but the fat one hasn’t delivered here yet though I’m not really expecting anything. Must try to get to sleep as I don’t want to be falling asleep at the dinner table, would look a bit bad if the host doesn’t appear interested in the after lunch topic of conversation. Goodnight.

RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted December 25, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 25, 2022 The big weather event hit us yesterday. SWMBO managed a shopping trip first thing yesterday but I didn't go outside all day. This afternoon we went to the mailbox (empty) and then drove around (circumnavigated) the university. The white stuff is covering some clear, shiny stuff. For a look at preferential ballots, check the Hugo Awards* for 2015. voting results The nominations were stuffed by a special interest group and the membership reacted. *science fiction. Popular Post iL Dottore
AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM CAPTAIN CYNICAL Dear ERs, Despite being warned against doing so by yours truly, iL Dottore insisted on celebrating the Christmas Festival by indulging in what he calls the (ahem) “traditional British” Far Too Much To Drink. After necking a case of Samuel Adams Utopia, three bottles of Roederer Cristal Brut 1990 Millennium Cuvee followed by 3/4 of a bottle of Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 60 Year Old; he then ended curled up in Lucy’s basket, wearing a traffic cone and cuddling her whilst singing obscene rugby songs at the top of his voice interspersed with tearful declarations of “I luv my little doggie” - much to Lucy’s intense embarrassment. I (Captain Cynical) and two trusty minions finally got iD to bed at 4am. Therefore, it is now my (Captain Cynical’s) duty - and one he cheerfully accepts - to wish on behalf of iL Dottore, a Merry Saturnalia (or end of year festival of your choice) and A Happy New Year to all ERs May 2023 be better year than 2022 for all! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to start making a BIG pot of Black Ivory coffee and break out the “major medical centre” sized box of aspirins for when iD finally wakes up. He’s going to have one hell of a hangover…. Captain Cynical Edited December 25, 2022 by iL Dottore 5 1 16

Lidl offer some really good quality food and drink* and their Deluxe line, although quite cheap compared with some sources of similar items, they are a good buy. Certainly an “affordable luxury” Although you can say that Pizza is the equivalent of a kitchen’s dustbin, inasmuch as anything edible can go in it/on it, I think you get a better pizza by carefully curating the toppings. Nothing wrong with Stilton on a pizza, but its strong flavour tends to overwhelm “weaker” ingredients. Perhaps, next time, go for a three cheese pizza using Stilton, Gorgonzola and Mozzarella (and if you want to be “posh”, place some thinly sliced pear [tinned are fine] on top. Pear works very well with both Stilton and Gorgonzola). * I have a case or two of excellent Bordeaux from Lidl in the cellar - a tip off from K-Tip, the Swiss consumer magazine which rated this particular bottle of Bordeaux from Lidl as the best one out of 15 on sale in Switzerland (with some expensive bottles scoring quite low) Edited December 25, 2022 by iL Dottore 10 1

I was wondering where I had seen this photo before. Then it came back to me, I’d seen it in The Ladybird Book of Pagan, Druidic, Satanic and Other Esoteric Rituals. In the chapter on Donkism, to be precise. It’s quite an interesting and ancient belief system, although not spreading much beyond the IoM. Warrior priests of antiquity, they were well known to (and feared by) the Romans. In a recently discovered manuscript Commentarii de Bello Isle Hominis by Julius Cæsar, there is one passage that reads “formidolosus et insanus fortis ordo bellatorum, qui corpora liniebant cinerea et clamores "osculi mei asini" incutiebant metum in corda eorum omnium qui se opponebant”* There aren’t many adherents to Donkism nowadays, although there are at least two current enclaves on the Isle of Man that continue to follow the old ways - performing their rituals in the ancient language under the guidance of a high priest or Donk. *a fearsome and insanely brave caste of warriors who grey daubed bodies and screams of "kiss my a$$" struck fear into the hearts of all who opposed them 1 1 2 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted December 25, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 25, 2022 Ben the clever Collie here, "What's left overs? My humans very rarely have any as they normally only make what is required, anything else goes in the freezer. Traditionally my humans, mummy's would cook roast on a Sunday, serve cold sliced on the Monday, and mince the remains for pies on a Tuesday. I know it's Christmas but i insisted on morning patrol, though limited to the illuminated area, as it's dark misty and dripping wet out there. I'm back in my pit, trying to sleep but my human keeps waking me by coughing , I'll stay here until he heads for the kitchen to make my bacon butty, then when my female human appears I'll plead starvation, and she'll make me breakfast. I'm feeling much better and quite hungry.. Their plans for today? There aren't any, but I hope they'll take me for the traditional walk on my beach.. 7 2

Bear doesn't overdo the Stilton - just small chunks dotted about on top; I used to use Dolcelatte but the price started getting silly for the amount you got, so I started to experiment. I went to an Italian Restaurant outside Bolton a few years back and ordered their Pizza Ai Quattro Formaggi (that's a four cheese Pizza, by the way); some Restaurants use, er, four cheeses scattered willy nilly on top whilst a few divide the PIzza into "zones" (occasionally using small "walls" of pizza dough at the 12/3/6/9 o'clock positions and a different cheese in each zone. Why was this Restaurant different? Well the Chef simply multiplied the amount of cheese on top by four........ Now Bear likes a Pizza, but that was OTT (and some) even for this Bear - IIRC I didn't scoff it all.

Various cards were delivered to neighbours; NNND presented Bear with a box of choccies - very nice (the choccies aren't bad either 🤣) and in return I gave her a box of nice Bikkies, courtesy of the Co-op. The Co-op had rather a large amount of food that I suspect (unless there's a late rush) may well end up wasted 😡 - they had loads of bread being sold off cheap; Bear scored a posh loaf - well it was Warburton's and had the word "Farmhouse" in the name so that's pretty posh to this Bear....). I also saw Buddy over the road for an hour or so - I donated the four bottles of Stella to him, which he was rather pleased with. Tick No Pizza for Bear tomorrow after all - I've been invited over to friends for din dins so it'll be snaggers & roasts etc. instead. Seems like a fair swap. Best wishes to all fellow ER'ers for a good one - may Santa be kind to you and all goes smoothly. Bear. Fear not oh furry one the Co-op, like many food retailers nowadays, donate much of the unsold food to charities which then provide places like homeless shelters, churches etc so lit doesn't go to waste. Any food that doesn't get consumed is usually composted 12 3
