What ever is a  disposable BBQ, I've not seen one here

They are pre filled containers with charcoal in them - they come in differing sizes, and they have a grill on the top on which the cooking takes place.

Even more interesting is the biodegradable barbeque. And yes, it is made of cardboard and bamboo, with some "lava stone" (pumice?) as an insulator so the cardboard doesn't catch fire.

There are no naked flames so it might even be safer than a foil tray full of charcoal briquets.

young representative

Of the representative for the Georgia 14th congressional district, we do not speak, at least not here. If you do want to see her latest "position statement", search for her name along with "Christian Nationalism".

If so, they were playing a deadly game, gambling with little Johnny's life. They came within a second or two of losing him, brown bread in a very gruesome way. From what was said at the time and later reflection, I think it's much more likely they had no idea of the dangers of railways.

Surely there aren't Parents in the UK as dumb as that?

Hang on, scrub that.  Stupid question.

One lucky ticket purchased in the US state of Illinois has won $1.28bn (£1.05bn) in the second-largest Mega Millions prize, organisers say.

Apart from the fact that I no longer reside in Illinois, it wasn't me. I did have two tickets. (Didn't match a single number.)

During their visit the Commonwealth Games happened to commence and they were horrified to learn that the Commonwealth wasn't just England,  Canada and Australia or whatever they'd assumed but that their classification apparently let  India, Pakistan, Malaysia, numerous African countries and even Wales in on the secret.

Pakistan has long been the destination of many scary things developed in the US.

Not being a US citizen, their competitors at Northrop-Grumman (who were a customer) had to escort me to (though not in) the toilets whenever I visited them.

I've not seen those before, whats wrong with those small portable Weber style  charcoal BBQs or gas ones used for camping?

The obvious answer is weight and portability. Dad had a nice camp stove with folding legs that I remember him using for picnics, but even with a mini gas cylinder they're a lot of trouble to drag around. He stopped using it eventually.

Smaller than the baby Weber 14" "Smokey Joe" kettles is the hibachi*. The 'disposable' foil tray is essentially a throw-away variant of the hibachi form factor.

* Not really a traditional Japanese hibachi**, but named for it.

** Not to be confused with Teppanyaki style cooking.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Going out tomorrow to a kit bashers show. Its local, Billericay so not too far to go. I like to 'look over the fence' to see what other (none railway) modelling disciplines are doing.

But where would you put it. The sheds already full. You've just emptied the cupboard under the stairs and if you're thinking of the attic think again.

I don't know people, oops sorry bears today that just buy things willy nilly with out thinking it through.

A helipad on the roof of bear towers would be a possibility. Air drops of LDC would then become possible

I'd like to see the planning application for that. Just imagine what the neighbours would say.

I've never had any escorts to the toilet but I've always managed to find my way!  The current elections would have put me off getting involved in politics; this year has to be one of the worst so far and they seem to be getting worse and worse each year.

With that sort of money getting the planning commitee in your pocket would take about the same length of time as snaffling a LDC

Brian, they certainly are.

As the Portland television viewing area encompasses both northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, we have a double dose of primary campaign advertising. With redistricting in Oregon, we had an onslaught for the Oregon primary advertising back in April/May and we're now in the heart of advertising for the Washington 3rd district (southwest Washington) - in particular for the incumbent who is being aggressively "primaried" and her primary opponents.

In addition there is a election for Governor of Oregon and commercials for two of the three candidates are already in heavy rotation ahead of November.

So I've been exposed to perhaps three times what you are seeing in terms of electioneering.

There is a specific reason why it is getting worse and worse. It's related to rules* related to campaign financing and a Supreme Court case lost by the Federal Election Commission in 2010. I'll abstain from saying more but you are right.

* A term I use loosely.

My brother is a British citizen but when working at a Government Communications establishment he had to have a minder sit with him all day while he worked to make sure he didn’t write anything down. The lady minder took him to the entrance  of the gents but didn’t follow him in.  He said there was another exit that led to another area. He was quite surprised that they were only worried about what he might have written down and not all the devices he was adding and removing from their equipment.

Sometimes the 'rules' feel quite arbitrary. I had to be escorted everywhere inside Northrop-Grumman. At Wright-Patterson Air Force Base however, once I was signed in, I could drive myself around the base anywhere I pleased. I was escorted once inside.

Commercial facilities can be strange too. This may be dated, but Google would not permit visitors (even escorted) anywhere beyond a multi-use space (meeting rooms, break rooms, cafés) adjacent to the lobby. The actual engineering areas were a sanctum sanctorum.

Long, long day at the office.. why?  Flipping rain... enough to get wet and to jave an early tea.. any roads up..despite Duckworth Lewis Sterns best endeavours we ended up with....

A tie!  Great tea though!

The gas bbq will be fired up as we have the Herbert's visiting (plus youngest Herbert's good lady). Beer and wine plus food.. what could go wrong???

Sleep well!

Ah! The portable BBQ!  What every good yachtsperson needs on a club cruise. Drop anchor, pump up the tender and load up, row ashore, find a sheltered spot (preferably in sunshine) and light up keeping upwind of your neighbour's one, and enjoy your evening meal and fellow sailors' company.

Lots of memories of BBQs on sandy and rocky beaches. Some favourite ones  (some beaches* not during the bird breeding season):

1) sailing south from Caernarfon - Aber Menai in the Menai Straight, Llanddwyn* on Anglesey, Porth Dinllaen near Nefyn on the Lleyn Peninsula, Lawrenny (up stream from Milford Haven);

2) sailing north from Caernarfon - Rowen (Y Felinheli) on the Menai Straight; and Porth Wen (the brickworks), Moelfre and Cemaes Bay on Anglesey.

Not sure about a portable BBQ right now, but a muganightcap will do just fine.

Pleasant dreams.

Good evening everyone

Well the weather today has been awful, drizzling all day, so apart from walking to and from the workshop, I’ve stayed inside. By the time I’d packed up for the day, I’d got all the stripboards cut, the tracks are all cut where necessary and the 2 mounting holes in each board drilled too! I need 14 for the layout, I’ve bought 10 kits, so I just needed to cut 4 extra boards. With the surplus bits that were left over and some bits from my spares box, I’ve been able to get enough to make up the missing 4 boards. I’ve now built and tested 3 boards and the remaining 11 boards are in little bags with all the bits required to complete them. The plan tomorrow, if it’s raining is to make a start on the construction of these, but if it’s fine, then I’ll spend some time in the garden.
